My only gripe with GS is the B.O. and nerd smell. Gamers need to know how to wash their ass as much as learning a new game.
Never really had too many problems with Gamestop after I realized I needed to stop trading games in and just buy games. Did my sanity wonders. I actually got a PowerUp membership, just for some discounts on used games, lol.
Spent like 110 bucks at gamestop, got like 17-18 games. Of those, 3 didn’t work, 1 got replaced, and I got full credit back for the other two. Felt pretty good about my purchases.
Hah, that GameStop video OmNiExiZt posted is pure golden.
no reason to shop at gamestop these days (since they phased out ps2 games, among other reasons) but when I did I didn’t have a problem with them pushing stuff…which they did no more frequently than the grocery store/drug store checker pushes their member cards etc. Only thing that bothered me was the whole “pay for a new game, get an opened game that has been passed around” deal. That is so grimey.
learned my lesson about not trading in games 15+ years ago…come on guys, this is 2013 - sell them yourself or swap games with others.
if you lived across the street from a sewage facility, I could probably take a crap in the same room as you and you wouldn’t snort one sniff.
On a side note, it’s crazy how quickly Resident Evil 6 got a huge price drop at GS.
The sticker has fuck all to do with the offering price. There’s just one price, and one price only they give you, based on what the system says for that week.
Doesn’t matter if the game has a case, manual, sticker, or magic marker scribblings all over it. It’s the same price for a game in immaculate condition as it is for a grimy disc w/ no case, covered in stains, and smelling like old weed mixed with cat piss.
That used to pissed me off when I was forced to accept trades from people because I actually appreciate buying a used game from someone who actually takes care of all the packaging, and I felt someone who took care of their shit deserved more money for their game than Stony McCatpiss.
If you’re expecting a glorified pawn shop to give you more than 50% of the selling price for your game, then you need to wake up.
Hell if anything, GS has gotten more blatantly cheap with their offering prices over the years since I worked there.
If you traded in a blockbuster title within the first week, back then you’d be guaranteed to get at least 80-90% back because we’d be able to sell it back around within the hour. I don’t even think they offer that much anymore for ANYTHING.
This.
I just buy everything through amazon now.
Fucking truth…I really REALLY hate that practice.
They say that if the games was opened and used only by the staff…it’s not considered used.
The fuck?
You USED it…so it’s fucking USED. Don’t fucking try to scam me.
lol who shops at Gamestop? They are the biggest business scam ever. Amazon is the only way to go these days. Release day delievery + no shipping and handling + no tax? You also don’t have to deal with the lowlifes and inbreds that frequent those stores.
Thank you drive thru.
The problem is when you want to get the game right now. I just go to gamestop when it’s a new release if the game is not wrapped up in its original packing i walk away.

I personally don’t think gamestop is all that bad. They seem to have some of the best prices on used games. If your going to buy a game on realease day, your going to pay $60 no matter where you go. I’ve also haven’t seen anyone give a better return on old ass games. I’m not talking about a release game you try to sell back to them within a month. Yes, you will get raped on that. I bought naruto ultimat ninja storm generations from them for $25 and was able to sell it back to them for $20 after having the game for about 5 months. I guess I was just lucky on that one. Paying $15 a year to buy used games for %10+ off doesn’t seem like a bad deal. You have to work their system to the best of your ability, don’t let them work you.
i think its laughable how they charge the same price for a used game without sleeve+instructions as they do for the same game with all its original packaging.
places like wallmart, target, best buy don’t stock niche unknown games much less having them on release date. I still have to rely to gamestop like when I went to buy akai katana, deathsmiles.
Yeah the wallmart near me didn’t have Anarchy Reigns so I went to gamestop. Sadly gamestop has that preorder bonus for MGR which is gray fox plus his sword & artbook so I gotta put amazon on the backseat this time.
I just saw this. We’ve implemented a quote function since you joined SRK, old-timer.
I missed the fact that your post wasn’t actually Gamestop related. You should go into a GS sometime. (That’s the smell.)
I’ve only encountered it at Gamestop, comic book shops, and Anime Boston.
How the fuck is this shit 3 pages already? I’m not even reading this crap, if you hate “GAMESTOP SUCKS” threads so much stop posting anything remotely serious in them.
I gotta admit, the powerup rewards card has saved me quite a bit via coupons over the last year or so.
I used to work for GameStop.
Was a good job, for a while… but the longer I worked there, the more shit sucked. My hours got cut pretty drastically the last year I was there - like, we’re talking less than 10 hours a week.
Eventually my good rep with customers and high sales came to bite me in the ass, and HARD. Ya see, having good rep with customers and having high sales would turn out to be the reason I got my hours slammed. If you had one employee who had one sale and that sale happened to be a subscription/pre-order, and you had another employee who had 100 sales and no subscriptions/pre-orders, that first employee is the winner because he got a 100% sub/pre-order rate. Now, compare that same first employee who got 1 sub with 1 sale to another employee who got 100 sales and 50 subs - THAT FIRST EMPLOYEE IS STILL THE WINNER BECAUSE IT’S ALL BASED ON PERCENT! That’s right, it actually benefits you to flat-out IGNORE customers who don’t pre-order or sub because they’ll bring your PERCENT down.
This was the stupidest fucking thing I ever heard - but my manager at the time had no problem taking advantage of this. In fact, if he knew a customer was going to pre-order/sub, he’d order whoever was also working to work the wall/stock the shelves/whatever so that he could get that juicy percentage up, while he’d flat out leave customers at the desk if they weren’t going to pre-order/sub.
I got very good sales while I was there as well as a very positive report on that customer satisfaction survey that they try to get you to fill out online, but that didn’t matter for shit. Hell, I even sold the most of those warranties in my store - that’s free fucking money for GS, but they didn’t give a shit.
And no one wants repeat customers unless those customers repeatedly pre-order games. Also, if you ever want to rob a GS, just walk in and immediately say “I need to cancel 5 pre-orders!” Immediately, all the associates will retreat to the back room, leaving you to your own devices.
Another thing about the “New” games - we were actively encouraged to take “New” games home with us to rent out instead of Used. I thought this was the stupidest thing ever… why, I asked? Well, as my manager said, GameStop makes more money on used games than new games, so they’d rather have as many used copies in the store as possible. Yeah. Fucking seedy as hell. They flat-out wouldn’t let me check out a used game so long as a new game was also in the store. Seriously.
That said, I still hang out at GameStop when I get off of work at my current job (it’s not the same store I used to work at with the douche-bag manager) for multiple reasons.
A) It’s good to have people to talk with who are into the same stuff as you.
B) Making friends with the guys and gals behind the counter ensures that when you get a “new” game it really is new, when you get a used game it’s the closest thing to new you can get for used, and you get all kinds of free shit that’s either been “Pennied out” or pre-order bonuses folks never picked up.
C) You get to intercept people at the register and buy their trade-ins - and you get to use the GameStop trade value to your advantage. I picked up a lot of games for dirt cheap this way. For example, I got a complete copy of MvC2 for Xbox for $7, an original Xbox for $20, retro games that GameStop doesn’t take in anymore, etc. I even got a complete copy of Parasite Eve 2 for free because the customer didn’t want it anymore and GS wouldn’t take PS1 games anymore! Score!
There is a flash which sums up gamestops policies.
