The GameStop Hatred Thread

I’ve never had a problem with buying from gamestop. The trade ins I see, but I don’t ever trade in brand new games. Nor have I ever bought a game at it’s original 59.99 MSRP.

I usually wait to do trade-ins until they’re running their extra 50% promo.

If you don’t like his response then why are you replying?

Chop off your pussy ass fingers.

another thing about games and the $60 price…

Most of the time if you can wait a few weeks to a month you can find new games online at places like Amazon for $20 off or more depending on the title. But of course many people have to have it NOW! and won’t wait for a price drop and yet still complain about $60 price tags.

There are very few games I get so excited about now, as an adult, that *I just have to fucking have on day 1. *When I was a kid/teenageer I was impatient, as all children are, and felt I was somehow missing out on something by not getting the game first day. Maybe I am and maybe I just don’t care anymore but I know that 90% of games I buy I’ll play once and get rid of or not even finish due to boredom. Being an adult, you take those kinds of things into consideration when making purchases.

I’ll always love videogames but I don’t see the reason to buy a game new on day 1 for $60 (there are very few exceptions to this - games I really want to support, devs see preorder numbers/demand) So for instance I will be preordering Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U because I want that particular game to succeed. The last games I bought new I think was Skyrim and UMvC3, and those for the same reasons, I preordered them to help support those titles (lol not that Skyrim needed any support, I but I love TES and I know that I’ll get 300+ hours out of every entry to the series)

Yeah, you can find good deals for relatively new games on Amazon fairly quick. Especially on gold box deals.

Hell I remember when Walden Software/ Books was around and Kay Bee Toys. Seriously there’s a lot of legit agreements
about why to hate gamestop. Not worth repeating since I know most here have heard them all.

I do like having a GS Rewards Card. But still, fuck Gamestop tho lol

I call bullshit on that. There’s no way those games have been around longer than CoD. Proof?

Just got back from GS to buy P4A. Girl asked me if it was okay the game wasn’t wrapped in cellophane because it was their last copy (she grabbed the game case off the shelf), I was fine with that. Only asked me one question (was I a GS member or w/e) said I didn’t buy games very often, she was cool with that. I don’t see the big deal. Only problem I have ever had was how excruciatingly long their lines can get because of ignorant customers not knowing wtf they’re looking for/what they’re doing.

CoD has been around since tthe dawn of time.

she wants the D…

the way this thread reads it sounds like some of you motherfuckers think GS is gonna be the local gamers hangout and when it turns out to be a retail store that is trying to take your money, they are the dicks! cry more!

My mom went to another place called Play N Trade for my little brother. She bought a used 360 with a warranty for Christmas, then their manager tried to renege on the warranty when the machine failed after a week. They only caved in once my mom threatened to create a shit storm. In contrast, I’ve never had a problem at Gamestop.

My GS is ok. I would never dare trade in a game to them though.

Does GameStop still offer warranties on used 360’s? Someone told me they had stopped.

…One of the most hilarious things to me is when you buy a new game there and they try to sell you a warranty for it, heh.

This guy got it just right.

I despise GS, and it pisses me off when they have a pre-order bonus I want. I don’t want to support them and I always feel a little disgusted with myself when I do business with them.

It’s like they know they have to bribe us to shop there. And they know how to do it too, it seems like their bonuses are almost always the best.

Reminded me of this. Razorfist makes some of the most awesome reviews ever, and his rants are top tier. He makes a shitload of valid points in this.

People say he’s a user on here but no one knows who he is

The only problem I’ve ever had at Gamestop was when i tried my hand at P4A. I bought it used about a month after launch for around $40.00. I played it for 2 weeks and wasn’t really feeling it. There was other games I wanted to play so i decided to put persona towards the other games. I take Persona 4 back to gamestop 2 weeks after I purchased it (for story relevancy, I am a rewards member there). These cheap fucks gave me $12 for that shit. Not a scratch on the disc and the manual was still in there. I was talking to one of my friends afterwards and he said that if you trade them a game that still has the “Gamestop pre-owned” sticker on it, they give you significantly less for it.

But I overlook that now because of two other occurences. I got Skyrim for christmas a year ago. I already had Skyrim and my sister couldn’t find the receipt for it. I took it to Gamestop with the shrink wrap and everything still on it, and explained the story to them. After they told me they normally wouldn’t take it because of the possibility of it being stolen since I didn’t have the receipt, they gave me a full $60 in store credit for it since I go there frequently and I’ve never pulled any shit on them

Later in the following year, I wanted Saint’s Row 3. They only had used copies of it. Instead of selling me the online pass card for the co-op and everything. they just threw it in for free.

Moral of the story. Don’t sell used games back to game stop while it has the sticker. And if you are a familiar face, you can get away with using gamestop as a pawnshop for stolen video games. Even though I didn’t steal Skyrim. Just saying I could probably do it as long as it is around christmas time. Bottom line the one around here is pretty chill.

I haven’t really enjoyed going to game stores since the Funcoland around us closed. I don’t really have too much of a reason to go to GS anymore, as Amazon does everything it does better, at least for me. The best part is buying a game and not having to say no to 25 questions at the checkout line. I know it’s procedure for employees, but that doesn’t make it any less annoying.
