The GameStop Hatred Thread

^ True, after I say no to something, I give them the staredown, and they are like “sigh okay is that all?”

I hate having to deal with it period though… they should stop acting like bitches when you say ‘nah, I don’t want a gs membership or nah I don’t want a gatdamn warranty’

I admit the gamestop online service is pretty great for new games. Get their pre-order bonuses without having to deal with employees if it bothers you so much. I still like amazon but it seems GS gets all the big pre-order bonuses these days.

It was pretty fun working there. I only got preorders and subs that came naturally, and still was the highest GA. Like if someone traded in a whole bunch and it would be ‘free’, or they were buying tons of used games that were recent, they’d save, ect. I never forced them, because I never liked that position.

I remember at an EB, as an 11 year old kid them pushing so hard, and confusing me into a sub…which was $30 back then I didnt have the slightest, they kept twisting words and shit. “So you save…and 30, this free, and you save, 30, free, save” I swear thats all I heard. Remembering that, hence I wasnt a douche about them when it was me behind the counter.

If you made more than peanuts, I’d still be there. I dont care about their practices, because I buy all my games NEW, and if I do sell them, it’s directly to another person. Co worker or craigslist. I bought Heavy rain long ago from a guy on CL, and sold it to a woman later for the same price.

I worked there for a few Christmas seasons back when it was Electronics Boutique. It was actually good times. Then again a couple of my close friends were there and they didn’t put nearly as much selling expectations on you as an associate.

Last year after purchasing a game they added a $5 pre-order to my bill without asking me first. When I told him to remove it or else I wanted a full refund he just sneered at me and gave a dirty look.

Last week, I was asked if I wanted to pre-order Tomb Raider, GoWA, etc. I said no to all of it, and the guy says “Wow none of them…well alright then…whatever” as he trailed off his dirty look in disbelief.

Suffice to say I hate having to go in there and deal with there “it’s an experience” approach to doing business.

I hate Gamestop too, but I was lucky enough to find a store where the manager is an actual gamer who’s very friendly and accesible.
Last year I was a regular at his store (bout once or twice a month) and he gave me posters and magazines for free from time to time (mainly stuff laying around in the back) once he became familiar with me.

So yeah, it depends on who’s running the store. Sadly, minimum wage jobs usually mean the majority of the workers are very ignorant or lazy or both.
Now if we talk about the GS I attended previously, that one sucked balls… but then again, mostly because of the staff. GS is really a gamble I would say.

I like Gamestop, but I can’t remember how many times I’ve applied there and haven’t been called in for an interview. Then again, I’ve heard the management and employment suck.

However, I always wanted to work there just have a parent come in and bitch about the game they bought and how it was inappropriate, so I can just tell their to look at the back of the case and point out their ignorance.

I just hate it when the clerk holds up the line with pointless conversation.

Shop with your money not with your ego. If you get crappy service don’t go there if your getting constant crappy service then the store as a whole is the problem. You have 1 crappy time there so! You can still get crappy service anywhere just know when to suck it up. Not defending the darn place just wow at some of the crazy stuff that you guys go thru and have not lodged a compliant to the manger or even district manager of that store. I used to work for the slimy gits and yes they do some stupid inane things like force subs or make you guys reserve something. So understand the feelings with them just make a statement every time you get screwed with to the higher ups and should be okay.

not directed towards you but why not ask? all it takes is a simple

“would like to hear about our great offers we have today such as a power rewards card?” and if the customer says no then thats it

not explaining what the card is and all this other crap to every customer when the business is slow

even when I said I didnt want the card they gave it to me anyways

for the 4th time no I dont want gameinformers subscriptions

But their reviews are completely unbiased, I had someone who worked at Gamestop tell me that with a straight face. I myself could not keep a straight face and busted up laughing. I do not think that guy liked me after that.

Also I did not pre-order DAT MADDEN.

And they do hire 16 yo, It was me and a HS student working at Gamestop when I worked there. I ran the fucking store learning everything OJT and then they were not going to give me manager or ASM after running the store for 2 months. So I told them they can go fuck themselves.

They also do force you to have weekly goals on Subs, Pre Orders and Used Sales. Yes used sales is a criteria that has to be met. They also had goals on warranties when I worked there.

I’m not defending the company in the slightest.

But people should blame the company for their shitty customer service and employee policies, not the kid standing across the counter.
Punish the company instead wasting your time getting pissed off from some schmuck just doing what they’re told.
If enough people bombard upper management with enough complaints about how shitty their service and policies are, then even someone dumb enough to work as an executive for Gamestop will eventually be forced to take the hint.

Yes, I know Gamestop has a few things you can’t get at the bigger stores, and better prices on a lot of used games.
That’s why God made the internet.
Also if you’re stupid enough to buy a new game at Gamestop (unless you’re pre-ordering some niche game that no big chain is going to carry) then you deserve whatever you get.

This.
Learn how to gauge prices and explore your shopping option like a reasonable adult. Most of y’all way too old to still be in that teenager phase of impulse buying video games and getting mad at some kid behind the counter talking about vidyagames.

Also this.

Omfg, do they still got that?
I remember when the PS2 first came out, we couldn’t afford any games. So we buy a “used game”, return it 6 days later saying that it sucked. Did this for a lot of games, so much to the point the manager asked my buddy and I, “do you have a DVD burner?” which I responded with, “I wish!”
We totally did.
But I’m with the others about never having a bad experiences with Game Stop.
I don’t really buy games anymore unless they’re fighting games, but I’ve never walked out thinking “fuck that place!!” like… ever.

Unreal, Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Call Of Doo-dee.
All have been around MUCH longer too.

I use to do it with Wii games a lot. Burn them to a 320 gig hard drive and voila.

You have yourself a hacked Wii, with a collection of over $600 in games.

If you don’t like them why do you shop there?

Close this pussy ass thread.

Well just myself speaking, at my own job, I’m expected to push anything extra we have to the customer. If the customer says no, I’m usually expected to try at least one more time to push the extra sale. It’s not because I want to do it, it’s because I’m SUPPOSED to do it. And besides, you think your average customer like a mom buying her son the latest COD remembers what it does anyway?

I mean, I may be coming off as defending gamestop, and honestly, I am, but it’s just because I have never heard a legit argument to hate on the corporation.

The last time I made a purchase at gamestop was for those exclusive doa5 skins kekeke…

Same herer and I’ve been pre-ordering from the same Gamestop just 5 minutes away from me for almost 3 years now.

I guess we’re just lucky?

Brother bought a “new” copy of Fight Night Round 4 in a sealed box only for the disc to be missing inside. He got it from some county a good 3 hours away from home.
