The First Real Tier List Discussion Thread - Your Input Matters

If everyone who plays marvel knows it then he’s not overrated lol. That’s a contradiction. :stuck_out_tongue:

I suppose my argument is moot. ANY character with a moveset can be good/bad in the right hands.

Filia is currently the worst out of the 8. Her damage is low and all of her good tools are also present in other, better characters. Painwheel has better resets. Parasoul and Double have better assists. Valentine has better corner loops. DHCs are better for blowing multiple super meters to deal big damage. If your goal is to win, any time spent with Filia is a bad investment. No matter what you want to do with her, you can do it better with another character. You only pick Filia if you like her as a character or want an easy to play character who doesn’t require much time spent in training mode.

Post-patch things will probably change. I think Double, Bella and Fortune will have a noticeable drop in value while still being solid. Valentine will be slightly worse. Painwheel and Peacock will go up a bit mainly because half the other characters got worse while they remained mostly the same. Filia will get a lot better since she will start dealing actual damage when she gets a hit.

Finally I think Parasoul will cement her place as the best character in the game. Currently it’s her extensive set of superior tools vs a few derpy tools of Double and Fortune vying for first place. With Double and Fortune getting nerfed from ridiculous to just really good, there will be no one to challenge Parasoul for absolute dominance.

Double is best now.

PW and Para best after patch.

A+: Double - Bionic Car is a great DHC option for more damage, cat heads is a great DHC that allows both safe escape and a resets afterwards. Easy high damaging combos. Jump HP has tons of active frames that you can throw out in almost any situation. Only matchups where she has a disadvantage is vs Ms. Fortune’s jump roundhouse. Buttslam is the best assist in the game. A bunch of matchups vs peacock are near impossible with double buttslam.

A Peacock - People underrate her because she is easy to use. She has a huge advantage off anyone who doesn’t have a fast forward dash. Has an easy 8-2 advantage vs most teams. Only person that gives her consistent trouble is valentine backed by an invincible assist and a point double that uses buttslam well. Even then that ignores that peacock can be backed with invincible assists herself. Shadow of impending doom FP destroys painwheel. If Painwheel manages to get in before a FP Shadow is ready, Peacocks’ jump HK destroys painwheel if she gets underneath her. Fortune is an easy matchup as long as the peacock use is smart enough to move away from a nearby head. Cerebella matchup is laughable and pretty much 9-1 since gun shots gets rid of most of her invincibility on her specials. Cerebellas jump HP approach useless its slow and shadow of impending doom knocks her down and gets her supered pushing her back full screen. Parasoul matchup is fine w FP shadow of impending doom since egret charge can’t stop it. If she pulls a egret charge just release FP shadow, hop over egret, triple gun shot to super. Rushdown is underrated since most matchups are so easy with random spamming.

A Painwheel - Painwheel has trouble with peacock bc of shadow of impending doom, PW flight is too slow to move in on peacock before she gets her shadow going. She also has trouble w Fortune’s jump HK which destroys Painwheel. PW only option vs Fortune is very well timed jump FP which is tricky to use. Outside of that, she does a great job mixing up high lows w flight cancel. Does high damage. Underrated keep away game for time out victories with flight. Unless other team has shadow of impending doom to take her out of the air she can just fly way with a lead. Level 3 super with spikes is underrated keepaway that beats out most teams.

A Ms Fortune - Has a invincible DP assist as a team mate which is nice. Better than valentine because of her jump HK which gives her air to air superiority vs everyone. Best level 3 in the entire game that is easy to combo into and counters a lot of different things. Biting cathead becomes very dangerous once people learn to fear her jump HK. Great priority once she gets inside. Crouching HK is awesome weapon vs pushblockers. Easy to chain her moves

B+ Filia - Updo is a nice DP, very useful supers that are easy to DHC into and out of of. Has air to air superiority vs everyone except Ms. Fortune and even then it is beatable with good timing.

B+ Parasoul - Has nice priority on her moves, but I have her low since Parasoul has lots of trouble if opposing player doesn’t need to come to you. Slow movement really hurts her. HK Napalm Piller might be 2nd best assist at worst which is her biggest value. Probably best assist post-patch.

B+ Cerebellla - lots of useful assists. Cerecopter is best assist in game for left right mixups. High damaging player. No one has as bad a matchup vs peacock though, 1-9 matchup vs one of the most used characters in the game drops her. DP MP is a underrated DP assist that allows for easy combos afterwards. Vs all other characters though she’s nice. Good supers that cause ridic damage

B+ Valentine - Great rushdown but has a lot of trouble with defense. Biggest value is as anti-peacock weapon for people that don’t use double. Despite her good rushdown, her air to air has trouble vs filia hair, fortune’s HK, and double’s FP. Needs a invincible like parasoul’s HK napalm pillar to have any form of defense. Poor keepaway. Nice grab.

The game is pretty well balanced overall though.

Uh

Yeah, she’s one of the more technical characters, along with Fortune(head positioning and hp holding for certain combos), Parasoul(charge character) and Painwheel(flight cancels). All her best options come from having a combination of items on the screen, which require time and space to setup, plus holding a shadow means losing a button(usually hp, which really useful) and some teleport options.

I rank her higher than a lot of others do, but it’s certainly not because of ease of use.

almost everything listed in 'cablebeamspam’s post is flat out not true

"Parasoul has lots of trouble if opposing player doesn’t need to come to you."
lol

"Slow movement really hurts her"
LOL

"peacock is the easiest charcater to use and is A tier"
HAHAHAHA

Peacock is the easiest to use character in the game. Which characters do you have being easier to win with?

Not that hard to call a FP shadow of impending doom to keep people grounded while closing in approach angles using different types of georges to keep chipping. Any single hit confirm from any of her projectiles can lead to a a full screen combo for an easy 4 to 7k damage depending on if you nail the opposing team a FP shadow. Combined w double butt slam and napalm piller, a half-decent peacock player can beat most teams without having a clean combo land on them the entire match.

Here’s a simple sequence that most teams have no answer for. HP shadow to 3x gun super or if it is blocked 3x gun.

She’d be a high execution characters if she could only have one projectile out at a single time and her projectiles did more damage. It’s not that hard to kill entire teams with just chip damage and good assists.

Peacock is “easy to use” because you suck at her and don’t try to zone in any way but just spam projectiles and pray your opponent doesn’t find a way around them (then again in that way she is D Tier at best, because it flat doesn’t work).
Playing her in a way that makes it even halfway evident you’re not just a buttonmashing monkey, but actually reacting to what your opponent does; learning his tendencies and actually *keeping him out *rather than backjump fierce - throw some projectiles - corner yourself - random teleport out and hope you don’t get tagged and ToDd is about the most challenging task in SG.
Everyone other than Parasoul has obscene amounts of tools to get around projectiles – not getting outright smashed to bits by any decent rushdown player is currently barely possible.

I don’t think Peacock is as weak as she’s made out to be, but A tier in the current version is definitely off, and calling her easy because she isn’t a high execution character is dumb, really dumb.

You must have some reading comprehension problems considering how my past posts reference peacock’s HP shadow of impending doom more than any other moves. I think your bias is clear, otherwise you’d understand charging a HP shadow doesn’t work well with a jump HP runaway strategy considering HP needs to be charged.

Jump angles are pretty easy to anticipate and well-timed george at the airshow + shadow keeps most people out unless they have a double to pressure peacock into blocking, this doesn’t even include the fact that she’ll have assists to push opponents way. There isn’t any 8 way air dash in this game. Air dashes have predictable angles and speeds. You overrate your own skill if you think that’s a difficult challenge for an experienced zoner. Super jump ins are easy to avoid by dashing under the opponent. If they hit an attack button to cancel, a half decent peacock player can jump HK underneath them as they are coming down.
If anything, I’d say you make your assumptions because you are a weak player and play mostly newer peacocks on low levels.

You overrate your own skill if you think that’s a difficult challenge for an experienced rushdown. Seriously though, Peacock isn’t an easy character to play well, she has potential, but her matchups are nowhere near what you’re saying. A good cerebella won’t glide in mindlessly, they’ll be dash-jumping and blocking to waste any item drops, avoiding chip from garbage day and the ground bombs, until they get into mid range where peacock doesn’t have an answer to her armor.

Her fullscreen chip game is actually pretty formidable, especially against painwheel.

I’m a bit skeptical about this, I can imagine there are ways to use the property where it sucks the opponent in to make tricky left/rights but you will only get 1 or 2 per call. If you use it for chip or high/lows you get a lot more out of it.

Filia looks like she should have air-to-air superiority, but in practice she doesn’t. Her j.HP gets beaten clean by a lot of common stuff. She frequently finds herself lower in height compared to other characters, so she has to contest their buttons at a position where they have the advantage.

Parasoul has bike, which is all she really needs against projectiles.

FWIW:
I think Peacock is a really good character. Not the best, but upper-mid. People rate her low because she sucks by herself, but to make that conclusion is like saying Strider sucks in MVC2 because he needs Doom assist to really shine. She gets so much more out of assists than anyone else does.

I also think many are playing her wrong. I don’t think putting her on point with two assists and hoping to chip to victory is the best way to play her. It seems better to put her in the middle, get in with a combo, DHC into Peacock, then use zoning to hold onto the lead. That will put her in a prime position to chip the opponent out.

Parasoul also MK Egret that absorbs projectiles. I think its really useful against Peacock. There’s also her level 3 which should make people hesitate when they or their assist are at low health.

not even reading this
come play me online with peacock and see how easy it is

Correct post.

personally i thought double’s M buttslam will still be the best assist in the game after playing the patch
shit is still retarded good guys lol

My tier list is as such:

A+ - Parasoul / Double
A - Miss Fortune, Painwheel, Cerebella, Filia, Valentine
B - Peacock

I think Filia is leaps and bounds better than Peacock, and at the moment I think everyone is playing Peacock wrong and noone can play Filia well enough anyway. She’s a bit better post patch but Mike clearly gave her changes with the intent of making her more lockdown / chip oriented but I don’t know if that’s going to work either.

My new random tier list:

Previousky i didnt have double at s… Ive always reserved s for characters that make a big part of the cast obsolete and have generally favorable matchups besides.

Well, its my opinion that double does that as a support character, she makes all other support obsolete at this point in time having both the best assists in the game along with the best overall dhc package. Double is easy mode synergy in a nutshell… Pre patch sentinel, basically.

S double
A+ val
A parasoul
A painwheel
A MF
B filia
B- peacock

Val has a hard to put the finger on all around game combined with ludicrous damage currently… Put them together and shes easily the best point character imho. Excellent maneuverability to get around zoning, easy damage from throws, good jumping attacks, good resets… And last but not least val is imho the best user of the games best assist in hornet bomber and besides that val converts assist otgs the easiest in the game… Which actually means alot as it means she doesnt have to achieve perfect positioning plus a hit assist to convert, she can call assists loosely and still convert, a luxury not many characters have.

When combined with her great mobility val is the least likely to need to achieve a certain position yet most able to capitilize once somethng happens… In other words val converts easier with less commitment, a hallmark of pretty much every hier tier character in any fighting game when compared to there counterparts.

The patch will nerf otg, but val will probably be one of the least affected, its not uncommon to see psyken and omni convert buttslams before the oppnent even touches the ground… And since she can do that, using e small otg window should be something that she will be adept at even post patch.

prepatch sentinel wasnt even that good, people just sucked. double in this game is leaps and bounds more useful than sentinel is in that game
