The First Lady of Fighting - General Chun-li Discussion

This is the most depressing thread in the UMVC3 forums

i wouldnt pick up IM in place of chun… if thats what you were thinking. if you want him on a chun team then theory and general team mechanics suggest chun at 3rd for xf3. with IM at 1st or 2nd depending on whether or not you want to make great use of his assist…

personally since its kinda hard to dhc into chun cause of bad range on kikosho… i would use IM first, then a character with a horizontal super that puts the opponent close like tron or spencer or deadpool/x-23… etc etc. the primary prob there is that the second character has to try and make legs a good assist… which it really isnt when its a standalone assist. (ie the only assist available)… i kinda see it like wesker at 3rd… his assist is great for the first character to extend combos and for unblockables… but the 2nd character juts gets beat up cause it has no neutral game utility, and then dark wesker is “forced” to come in and try for the comeback.

IM at 3rd has never really worked for me… but admittedly i havent tried it much… a couple of IM players think its good but most dont… mostly there as an assist character that is better on point than psylocke but worse as an all around assist… lol if we were talking mvc2. picking up IM right now isnt really a good idea imho since he will have many changes just when you start learning to use him… ie UMVC3.

looks like they murdered chun with that air dash nerf she has no way of getting in really now lol

Unless people find out some real interesting technology with her I don’t see her doing much in Ultimate either. Especially with all the new zoning characters.

Hopefully someone will ask seth what the hell is going on for Chun

Someone DID ask Seth about Chun Li, if she would have any OTG move and he replied with "Chun Li? Let’s get back to the topic [aka PW and Nova].

Im uploading more matches of me using Chun Li, I believe you’re gonna like them.
Should be uploaded in a few hours.

Silly Seth. I’ve sorta accepted that UMvC3 ignored Chun and she’ll continue to be low tier. Someone has to be low tier I guess heh. I would drop the game before I dropped her though. She’s my gal.
Although seeing Nova today with all of his hypers being air-OK and having 2+ otgs…yea I was a bit salty, I wont lie haha.

Looking forward to those videos though!

That was me asking him, copying and pasting the question several times and repeating it several times in single post. You could only imagine how happy I was when they mentioned it, and how pissed I was when he acknowledged the question, and then ingnored it, and then went on to talk about pheonix.

Give me this chun-li plz

Thanks for trying anyway. <3’s to you

Yeah, man. Thank you so much.
You are our hero =)
This is the most depressing topic in the entire forum

Alright I have some bodies inside NYCC, so if there’s a floor build and they get their hands on it, I gave them the list of stuff to try in the OP.

If anyone else wants me to try to get them to test stuff, post it. I should hopefully at least find out if she has an OTG and cr.L hits Low/Mid by the end of Saturday.

or… this chun-li

okokokokok i’ll stop trolling

I gotta say mvc3 chun-li REALLY pisses me off. I don’t like her air dash, she does so little damage. Her assist is alright (lighting legs one)

she has a hard time getting in. idk i want allot of changes to chun. I honestly think mvc3 is her worst vs game. even in mvc2 she was Moro scary =(

I must admit that her new spinning bird looks REALLY good, and im not just saying that because she has nice legs.

I dunno, I think Chun is underestimated in general. She has a great assist, pretty decent comboability, okay mobility, and a great Level 3 X-Factor. If she had more damage, she’d be pretty amazing.

(Okay, now that I’ve posted in the Chris forums finally, I can post here without the universe imploding. Huzzah.)

I’m not quite sure why I’m posting here, to be honest. I don’t play Chunners. I don’t even like her and never really have beyond a character design standpoint. Still, there’s something that bugs me here…

I suppose it’s partly because it popped up under most recent threads and I was curious to see if she actually got something useful that I hadn’t heard about yet–this doesn’t appear to be the case, unfortunately. I suppose it’s also partly because I would like for everyone to be at least somewhat threatening and also because I find it rather surprising that Capcom’s flagship female character, arguably the flagship female character of the entire video game world (since Peach mostly only gets kidnapped), is so obviously deficient. Even more so surprising that there’s pretty much no visible outcry against this.

Since at least one person who cares about Chun-li is going to NYCC, maybe you can get this changed this weekend or, at least, bring it up more in a manner that Seth (read: Capcom) can’t blow off; please be polite about it, though. To be threatening, I feel she, at the very least, needs an OTG, even if it costs her meter; if even Trish can get one when she doesn’t really need it, weird rolling out of her aerial super aside, then someone who actually needs one should get it too. And it seems so easy to give to her given Kikosho already hits the ground in its animation, so they literally wouldn’t have to change anything animation-wise, just change its properties slightly.

Maybe you (all) can make try to push this to Capcom by making yourselves heard Comic-Con because she’s literally not going to get anything else otherwise (sans maybe c. :l: hitting low, but if I had to pick between the two, obviously OTG takes precedent) between now and the release, especially with the relative silence. I’m not one for protests/outcries since I feel they generally accomplish nothing but the feeling of vain hope, which is already a superfluous phrase, but given how close within reach it seems for her to actually be decent instead of “lol, MvC3 Chun-li”, you (all) should definitely try.

Otherwise she’s going to be keeping the other Chinese girl company down at the very bottom alongside the tentacle monster and that’s not exactly a good look.

I never played TvC, but that Chun-li looks…exactly the same sans the mid-air Baroque. Actually, she looks even worse (just from that video).

Everyone in XvSF had busted, ToD shit, though, so that’s hardly a fair comparison. XvSF was almost outright broken; MvC3 can be extremely cheap. There’s a marked difference.

Disliking MvC3 Chunners is fine–she sucks. Saying that MvC2 Chunners was better, especially when she came on the heels of MvC1 Chunners? You are officially trolling right after you said you would stop.

Besides, you’re not going to get a lot of changes to her at this point considering the game, once tomorrow hits, is literally only a month away.

It may look really good, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to help her game at all, especially since you have to charge it. (I’m guessing by charging back since regular Spinning Bird Kick is already down, though it could just be the same motion plus :s: even though there’s supposedly three versions of the EX maybe, even if having to charge down for that long is even worse.)

I’m still not sure why they thought a rushdown character who had trouble rushing down and was unable to get damage off of throws by herself like pretty much all other rushdown (and even a lot of zoning characters) characters due to being unable to OTG needed a GTFO move…that had to be charged…while still not giving her an OTG.

I highly doubt she’s underestimated as anything but an assist, but she’s really not worth using as just an assist character, especially since her assists aren’t invulnerable like how Haggar & Tron currently are and since her Level 3 X-Factor is arguably worse than either of theirs; well, Haggar’s, at least, since it’s definitely worse than Tron’s.

You honestly think her Level 3 X-Factor is okay? When you can hardly control her and she’s utterly defeated by holding up back? Uh…okay.

She’s supposedly getting more damage on her attacks, but she seems like she’s still going to suck hardcore without any additional means to deal it or even threaten landing a hit, especially in a game that’s even more geared towards zoning and gave Dante her mobility in Devil Trigger.

Lol your right everyone in xvsf is busted, but chun being able to do c.hk xx air dash forward stomp s.hk s.h is legit.

Tvc chun is prolly one of the better chuns and she has serious swag. The hit stun deterioration is bad yes but the fact that she can dash cancel off of j.h or even the mixups she has is sick.

I’m more disappointed with this mvc3 chun than anything, its like capcom looked at her in vanilla and then said fuck it, she can stay that way for ultimate. =/

Someone kidnap Seth Killian and bring him here. Then we’ll discuss proper treatment of the first lady of fighting…

(I plead the 5th if this actually happens, especially since I don’t even play Chun-li.)

Hey, hey. Let’s not get drastic here. No one needs to kidnap Dr. Cossack.

At the very least, you’re going to have to dress up as Dr. Wily (or Protoman) and kidnap Kalinka first.

Fair enough. I hadn’t noticed that she was dash canceling off of j. :h: in TvC and had forgotten that she could only jump cancel things.

Maybe dash-canceling is one of those last minute things you guy could push for, especially since a bunch of other characters got it who already had more mobility overall and, again, it wouldn’t take much but changing the properties of things.

I’d settle for Kikosho OTG, cr.L hitting low, and a buffed hitbox on j.M so she has a practical left/right mixup.

It wouldn’t make her better than mid tier, but honestly I don’t care what tier she is so long as she’s a complete character. Too many holes right now.

Also, Brian Kasugano, I’m trying to learn that jump loop that you do as my BnB (the stomp, MMHS X2) and I’m having a hard time making it consistent. Does it differ a lot between characters? Impossible on some? Any tips?
