The Final Fantasy XIII series thread. Black people sold separately

IMHO the battle system was one of the only strong points that ffXIII had but my only gripe was it relying way too much on the stagger bar. if they could incorporate blue magic, status effects differently, regular magic, summons differently, etc. then i’d like it more. hard to explain but like a cross between ffVI or ffVII and ffXIII’s battle system would be dope.

They need to fix the weapon/equipping system. My God was that booty.

that too. shit was trash.

-level weapons up to 100 with obscure and often hard to find and/or accumulate otherwise expensive useless items
-leveling up weapons was useless until the chapter where you found lionheart
-there was no point in using any item other than the “-sols.”
-armor and accessories were just as bad.

what were they thinking…??

I dunno if I’d say it’s lazy. The initial concept for FF13-2 was for it to be DLC I think. Look at the older FFs, they had for the most part similar battle systems, there are differences here and there but in the end you’d be familiar with it going from 4 to 5 to 6 to 7.
…and I like what I’m seeing so far from FF13-2, and I like the battle system, though I do agree it needs some alteration, but all in all I got not problem giving them my money =V
Mind you there are a few changes to the system, for one is those QTEs, plus one of the monsters that fight with you does Kenshiro’s Hokuto Hyakuretsu-ken.

Agreed, weapons should’ve leveled up through battles at least. If we’re going to upgrade them via items, don’t make it tedious like in 13 @_@

I guess you guys have a point there. Maybe its the fact that SE has pampered us in the past with different battle mechanics for each of the FF games (say 7 to 13) , and thus I was expecting something different for ff13-2.

Lets say FF13-2 does incredibly well in sales, and its all due to the battle system. Would you be ok if SE decides ff14 use the identical system but with a few additions? Nothing ground breaking but maybe a new magic here and there.

Reading up online and after seeing some screenshots, I’m assuming that the events of FF13-2 that are Noel and Serah are
Part of an alternate future where Light dies during the Purge and is set 5 years after that
Oh and-

I am totally not feeling this supporting cast.

What happened to Snow? Noel gettin in on that now?

Well…I KNOW who is trying to pull a Raiden in this one.

i liked the cast from 13. i think i’m alone though

You liked Hope?

Serious bro?

I liked Snow, he was a cool bro.

Ok except for him, or sazh.

I liked Hope and Sazh shurg

Sazh was cool, I mean he had an afro and pet baby chocobo. How could you hate him?

I only liked Sazh. Lightning gets a little respect for smacking Snow around.

I don’t think this is an accurate statement to make.

I mean, 4-9 were basically small variations of the ATB system. The only major difference were limit breaks (if any) and the growth system. The battle system remained largely the same. Maybe some had to have the characters pose before attacking.

It’s only X-XIII that we got big variations, including FFX-2 which had the first big change to ATB (different charge time for different actions, canceling moves, combat positioning that was unfortunately not really controllable, etc)

I mean, your second hypothetical question is basically what happened from FF1-3, and 4-9, really.

PS - There already is an FF14 out. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was thinking of trying out FF13…probably my first FF game I want to play(Even though I have Dissidia, Crisis Core, FF7(PC), and FF4(GBA)).

Is FF13 good for someone who has never really followed the series?

Well…it depends on what you like out of games. Let me just give you a brief rundown.

 • The majority of your gametime will be spent battling. Many enemy combinations provide different sorts of challenges throughout the game. Your own party is diverse, but unfortunately you can only really get full control of your party about 2/3rds of your way into the game. Until this point, you are left with what the game gives you, which is still very diverse but sometimes you just want to get control of everyone faster you know?
 • The battling is very fast paced. Iirc, you can slow this or speed this up in the settings. They have given you an “Auto-Command” which tends to do the supposed “best possible action” at any one time. It’s not super smart though, you’ll still need to select your own commands for those tougher battles since what the AI thinks is best might get you killed.
 • The game heals you fully between battles. This means less resources management and more in battle management. Some see this as a good thing, some bad.
 • The story for most of the game is very character driven. Everyone gets their own little arc that’s important. This is both a blessing as a curse as chances are you won’t like every character. Personally, while I didn’t necessarily like everyone, I thought the arcs were fun and well-written, though that doesn’t necessarily make me like someone by the end of it.
 • As for the rest of the overarching plot…it starts intruiging and gets crazy by the end. Eh.

Hope this helps you make a decision on whether to check it out or not.

Play FFIV god damn you. It’s the best FF in the series save maybe IX.
