What does changing forms do?
Aside from powering up the basic trait of the item/weapon, it increases stats by an order of magnitude.
Form 2 weapons are usually about 220% of the power of Form 1. Form 3 weapons are like, 600-800% of the original weapon’s power. Form 3 weapons also have an extra ATB guage.
Thing is, some of that doesn’t matter until you have a Genji Glove. You might be able to do a million + damage per hit, but it caps at 99,000 unless your character has a Genji Glove, of which there are only 3 in the game and are all rewards for high level missions.
Damn. This sounds like a lot of hours are ahead of me in this game.
This is 99% true. The only exception would be Sazh’s Pleiades Hi-Power. A max upgraded tier 3 Pleiades yields 1150 str and 6 ATB bars while a max tier 2 Pleiades gives you 1140 str and only 5 ATB bars.
For a very costly upgrade, you get marginal results.
Isn’t that the one that cuts your heath in half?
If that’s the case, the trade off is that when you max out to the Tier 3 weapon, you only lose like 25% of your health instead of half. (I think…I’d have to consult the book to be sure, but you’re probably right about the numbers.)
Yeah, you lose half your life.
But if you’re at a point in the game where you clearly dominate the battlefield, it’s not a big deal. It only really matters at earlier points in the game or when you’re "under-leveled’.
how do you get money in the early game? got the game for my birthday and finally got around to playing it. The game is beautifull so far (little bit annoyed at the combat) but I was wondering if I should be selling some of the random items the monsters drop to buy potions and other stuff. First post mentioned about grinding Gil in certain spots, should I just wait to do that first?
The earliest opportunity that I can recall is the credit and incentive chips that you can grind really easily in Hope’s home… but that’s all the way in like chapter 9 or 10 IIRC.
Nothing really to spend money on early in the game, to be honest. All of the best stuff is found in pretty obvious treasure orbs.
Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. Two more silly questions: is there anyway, even later on in the game, to control the other two party members? and is getting 5 stars in all encounters a necessity?
Once you get to chapter 9 there are some grinding spots I wouldn’t bother with hopes house. Check the first post for all the grinding info. I believe chapter 9 the room before you fight the last boss is where you get to choose whoever you want from then on out. Although chapter 11 is the chapter you can just wander and do whatever you like. 5 stars are not important they only help build your meter for summons, quake, ect. Later in the game that comes useful if you want to farm traps or finish the monster hunt quests with 5 stars. The game does get less linear later on stick with it. Although it never really felt like a Final Fantasy game to me still a good game nonetheless.
I’m on the first boss guy (at least the first hard one) right after you find Serah’s crystalized body. gotta say that I of all the combat changes X and XII had the best changes. I’ve died three times trying to do random paradigm changes to get people to do shit, its really throwing me off.

I’ve read elsewhere that the higher the battle rating, the better chance of you getting good drops. I don’t know how true that is, and I imagine it’s impossible to prove or disprove either way, seeing as it’s all RNG.
Ya that is true I don’t know the increases it does positively increase the chance to get rare drops a little bit. Having less increases the chance to get (forgot the names) the items that help you while you are out of combat.
star ratings only matter later on during missions if your trying for the 5-star missions achievement which is late in the game. the only other impact they have is a 0 star rating increases the chance of getting a -sol (fortisol, aegisol, deceptisol) item by 8x and a 5 star rating increases your chances of getting rare items to drop.
as for controlling the other 2 party members… yes and no. no you will never be able to specifically choose each of their actions. however the paradigm system once you get used to it does allow you a fair amount of control over your other 2 party members.
Once again, thanks for all the answer. I hope the end game is full of being able to dick around with mini games and other random shit. The death of the airships pretty much killed the FF franchise for me; its all about trying to find the most overpowered monster compared to your party stats as soon as you get the airship.
Got my Platinum trophy tonight. I saved the 5-Star boss battle trophy for last, so beating the game for a second time and getting the Plat was a nice cap stone.
I really enjoyed this game from the ground up. Characters and all, this is one of my favorite story experiences in any game.
I gave up trying to Platinum it. I don’t feel like farming turtles for the obscene amounts of gil required to get every item in the game. But for intents and purposes only, I pretty much do have it Plat’d. Just too lazy to do it.
Actually, it wasn’t *that *bad.
Now, I know everyone says you can have Collector Catalog and Connosour Catalog on at the same time for both benefits, but I got the appropriate drops far more often if I was just using the one I needed at the time.
The Gil farming IS work though. If I was going to give anyone advice about the game I would tell them to never CP grind, going for Gil alone will get you that.
151 hours into my game and I got my plat trophy.
may play it again someday if there was a hack for gil for the ps3 eventually. cause I really don’t want to spend another 150 hours into this game for so little reward.
