Barthandelus is the main Fal 'Cie of Cocoon. The owl is most likely just a creation of Bart. Bart was trying to get the party to kill Orphan so Cocoon would be destroyed. The sacrifice of a planet (and all of the lives contained there) would hopefully bring back the Creator, who would give the Fal 'Cie a better world to rule (or something new to “protect”). Throughout the game, the party does NOT want to kill Orphan, because they do not want to destroy Cocoon. They only kill Orphan at the end of the game because they have no other choice (either Orphan dies or the party dies and the Fal 'Cie make someone else kill Orphan).

Once Orphan is dead, Cocoon begins to self-destruct. Vanille and Fang use the power of Ragnarok to save the people of Cocoon by turning Cocoon into crystal (thereby not allowing it to self-destruct). Unfortunately, the saving of Cocoon caused Vanille and Fang to sacrifice themselves (they turned to crystal with Cocoon).

And the game clearly states how everyone else turned back to normal during the endgame. Miracles CAN happen.[/details]

hmmm, will it really make that big a difference to use unmaxed items? the other fights where i tried to use lower level equip it only shaved a few seconds off my time requirement. atm the time mark is 11:49 but even when i beat the fucking thing in 8:19 i only get 4 stars.

Don’t know how much of an extra you’ll get in regards to time, but you’ll need whatever extra time you can get.

My fight IIRC was 8mins XXsec with a 12ish minute target time. Got 5-stars for it.

Remove some of those accessories, it will reduce your target time. For example, are the weirding glyphs really necessary if Ravager attacks do crap damage? I guess it could help with healing but perhaps two might be enough and three is too much. Or maybe put in Vanille with the Healing staff (or upgraded version of it, whatever it’s called), and you won’t need that many +magic glyphs for healing. She makes for a good Synergist too.

do accessory levels count against you too?

Not positive about the levels, but it’s pretty easy to find out…beat some easy monster with a level 1 accessory, then the maxed version of the same accessory and compare target times. I’m pretty sure it matters.

Also, I wonder if a maxed Magistral Crest would give you less target time than two weirding glyphs that when combined, give you the same +Magic as the Magistral Crest.

all this game really needs is an accessory or something that converts CP to gil… It could be a prize from a hard mission or something but really farming for plat ig. is really boring and slow going.

amen to that, have bhakti give it to you after you beat mission 64 or something. 1 for 1 ratio at that point in the game wouldn’t destroy the balance by any stretch.

I mentioned this a couple pages back.

But in order to make it not as easy, but not as hard as it is now, I proposed something to the effect of, 10,000 CP = 1,000g.

outside of the two gui’s most of the enemies give crap for cp anyway (especially when we’re talking about needing tens of millions of gil to buy and max enough to get the treasure hunter trophy, you’d need hundreds of millions of gil to upgrade all of the weapons to max level).

to put that in perspective. a regular adamantortuse gives 40,000 CP. If the accessory only converted a 1/10th of that into gil then you’d only be getting 4,000 per run. Conversely you can easily repeat mission 24 and get a garunteed 6,000 each run though. What would be the point of that accessory then?

If that 10CP:1GIL ratio value was any higher like, 1:1 for example, I can get about 2-3million GIL every hour just cause of how fast I can kill Shaolongs. If that was the case, I can just farm for a few hours and be done with it.

As far as having no use for that accessory when compared to mission 24, true, it loses value when compared to that mission, but once you max your crystariums and move on to farming Long Gui’s, that’s where it proves to be more valuable.

Then again, we’re never getting this accessory so it doesn’t matter. XD

I have a question for the experts again…How do I kill that Giant Cactuar?

No real trick about it for me. I gave everyone Imperial or Royal armlets (resist all types damage), and I also had a maxed out General’s belt (resist physical damage) and beat it down with fire magic. get a libra real quick so everyone starts spamming fire. If you’re lucky you might get a quick break. Otherwise that fight is a pain in the ass, or at least it was for me. Maybe others have better strats

equip a weapon with random: instant stagger

if you need to also equip an energy sash and speed sash on a few of the characters to increase the chance of getting the stagger.

I forget if you can launch him though… if so then he becomes easy.

down to 2 more fights for 1000/1000. a humbaba in the mines, which i don’t think will be a problem at all, and the mission 62 fight against those 2 ravtija fuckers or whatever they are called that have to be staggered to deal damage at all.

Good luck with that Raktavija x2 fight. I just got lucky with double instant staggers on them to get 5 star.

yeah, i think i’m gonna go with the luck strat as well lol, just pop some -% magic damage gear and then cross mah fingers.

that fight wasn’t too bad for me oddly enough. I didn’t get a quick stagger and I still got a 5-star rating. I used Royal and Imperial Armlets, and the magic equivalent of the General’s belt on everyone. then I think I used shrouds, I sabatoured one, then beat it down with com/rav/rav and rav/rav/rav. once it’s stagger was high enough I went com/com/com. then did the same for the other one.

So, I know I’m years behind, but over the weekend I got the point where…

WTF?!

[details=Spoiler]
Sazh shot himself in the head. WHAT THE FUCK. My favorite character in an RPG in YEARS, and he’s dead?![/details]

I saved my game and stopped playing. I seriously put the game down for a day, because I wasn’t sure that I wanted to continue playing if that was the way things were going to be. So then I forced myself through about another hour yesterday, only to find out things were thankfully not at all as they seemed.

Man, this game gets a lot of unwarranted hate. I know it’s Final Fantasy, so that’s inevitable, but… this one is really very enjoyable, IMO. I really enjoy the pace of the game so far.
