The Final Fantasy Thread 2.0 | FFXV: OUT NOW! It Really Did Exist

I would say the biggest problem with FFVIII is the gameplay. I didn’t like the story much, but I could have tolerated it were the gameplay not so terribly tedious and boring. Mobs scaling to your level is not inherently a bad thing, but it is if your battle system sucks. It ensured that through the early game you always had to be casting 10 minute GF spells repeatedly, even in random battles…either that or drawing magic. Junctioning was like an even shittier version of materia…you had to track all these stats and other convoluted bullshit just to perform basic, empty customization that added nothing to the game.

Then there are so many bad scenarios in the game. There’s so many areas where the doorway to progress is badly displayed in the CG background, blends in and isn’t obvious…there’s points where during your first play through you basically have to spend 20 minutes straight running against every wall in every room of the town or dungeon to figure out where to go next. Then in the middle of a mission they suddenly grab you and stick you in the shoes of this random Laguna guy you don’t know, don’t care about, in some area clear across the world you don’t have a clue about…and then they expect you to wander around fighting level-scaled mobs with GF’s over and over wondering where to go next for this dude you don’t know doing god knows what in the middle of god knows where?

And don’t forget, the prison breakout segment where you have to run back and forth through 10-20 copy and paste floors of the same damn shit fighting tedious mob-scaled random battles with repeated GF’s and drawing while annoying sirens and shitty music play.

Fuck FFVIII and its terrible, tedious, godawful gameplay.

Man…I never used GFs outside of boss fights…You can really blame a game for being tedious if you play it in a tedious manor?

And I like Meteria. It was easy to use and the bonus benefits or negatives where never enough to warrant not equipping a spell if I really wanted to.

Tina IS an emo. Her whole story, the WHOLE thing, is about how she wants to be loved. That’s it. People sugarcoat her because she’s in the overhyped FFVI though.

I disagree about the other characters in FFVIII though, I rather like them.

Glad I’m not the only one.

I dunno between Squall and Tina/Terra…Tina felt less emo, and thanks to the people she was with she was able to be more open with people and relate to them…sorta…IIRC

question for all the ppl that have played ffV.

i don’t remember ever running in battle. i THINK i may have run once but i’m not completely sure.

if i pick the chicken knife, how many times would i have to run away to get the knife fully powered up, being that there’s a 99% chance that i’ve never run in a battle before?

256 times maybe?

6.4.19) CHICKEN KNIFE DAMAGE PARAMETERS

Attack = (# times escaped from battle)/2
Maximum Attack = 127
M = (LevelStrength)/128 + (LevelAgility)/128 + 2
Defense = Defense

That’s all I got.

And I believe there is a place near Karnak where you can see your game stats so that would help you calculate how many you’ve run from. I think.

isnt the brave blade more powerful if you have never ran even if you run the max times for the chicken knife?

Anyone here have translations to the FF13 Battle System from the Demo?

actually i heard the chicken knife is more powerful than the brave blade in the long run. i’ve now taken up running from battles. shits wack but whatever. what i really need to do is max out all my jobs. i’ve been freelancer for the past 4 levels…

what is a good area to max out jobs? i was using the basement of castle bal with the object d’arts and level 5 death awhile ago. i’m around level 42ish right now.

i can safely say that i’ll probably never play this game again. its just not that good IMO…

iirc… I’m gonna check up on this later btw. It’s been while.
FF2 = No

FFL1, = no
FFL2, = yes towards the end
FFL3 = yes

RS1 = yes but they’re easy = SNES
RS = yes = PS2
RS2 = ??? Haven’t played
RS3 = yes, and higher enemy level = more quests unlocked

SF1 = yes and they’re goddamn brutal
SF2 = ??? haven’t played

Unl S = no
TLR = yes; you DELEVEL as you fight WEAK enemies, you LEVEL UP as you fight hard enemies.

The point is, in few cases like FFLegend 2, Romancing SaGa 3 and The Last Remnant this system discourages pointless grinding and actually reward you for taking risks & going forward.

^ Thanks for the info. I knew that it’s meant to reward creative play than mindless grinding.

I was just bringing up the point cause I thought I remembered some SaGas and more recently TLR having level scaling, and more importantly, that it has been done well before.

THough for FFVIII’s case it’s…uh…yeah.

Scaling in VIII wasn’t a problem at all seriously, because I found it super, ridiculously easy to lvl up in VIII due to this very fact. I mean, before I even left Balamb Garden, I was lvl 50+ already, due to scaling which allowed me to level up. That alone made running through the game a walk through the park, with almost utter and complete annihilation, especially with Zell’s Limitbreak chains.

Drawing magic was super tedious, and imo, one of the most stupid and boring aspects incorporated into VIII. One thing I did like though, was the fact that they didn’t have the “typical” lifebar screen which covered nearly a quarter of the screen, which to me was refreshing.

The game itself was easy because of the scaling, besides a few handful of bosses whom were annoying, other then that, it wasn’t difficult for me at all. However, any FF game as a whole regardless of how good one is, we can pick apart and find things about it that just leaves you going wtf.

Squall simply gets more hate then Terra is because VI overall is a much better game then VIII, I guarantee if you switched it around, the results would be the same except Terra would be in Squall’s position by the view of the FF fans.

However, I could care less about that notion, Squall to me is still the coolest looking protagonist in any FF game to show up, and ultimately I liked the path that he took, yes, it could have been written much better. I liked the fact that he became more open, or a.k.a. starting to act like his real self instead of hiding behind the “I’m too tough to show anything” mentality, because he finally figured out you can still smile and laugh but kick a lot of ass.

It’s actually easier to play through the game at level 1 since the enemies’ stats are generally better than yours for regular leveling. If you want the best stats, it only makes sense to level when you have the “stat boost on level-up” junctions.

I love 8 but I’m actually hype for XIII after reading it’s suppose to be the hardest FF to date.

I hated the PS2 generation of FF’s.

This.

Celes = 10000x more emo than Squall or Terra. Girl actually tried to jump off a cliff for Pete’s sake. Not to say that any of them are bad characters…just saying.

So what’s the concencus on 12? from the footage I’ve seen the charactrs look more androgenous then usual but real time battle system sounds ike a cool idea.

Even harder than IV or I?

NICE.

Now let us hope that the story and gameplay mechanics are of a level with VI.

Vaan is the only androgenous looking one. Like most final fantasy games, there isn’t really a general concensus on it, you’ll either love or hate it. So just play the game if the mechanics seem interesting enough to you.
