I think this is true. Every time after the very first time I played that long ass game(I will finish it one day!) I used the card transform ability to keep my level in check. Enemies in general will act simpler.
This whole enemies matching player level thing has been done worst in FF8 (and seiken games, as in SoM and SD3). They seriously need to rebalance the enemy HP gain.
To be fair, remember that she was unsconcious for almost a year only to wake up to her new reality. Kefka destroyed the world and there was the possibility that she and Cid would be the only survivors remaining on a small island. And then Cid dies as well and she is all alone in that situation.
Come on man, many people in real life would crack under all that and probably would try to suicide as well. You don’t see any of that from Celes after she visited the first few towns and Mash told her the others were still alive.
nonono, I meant in seiken series, and in seiken series include SoM and SD3, I said that so people get what seiken series. Secret of Mana doesn’t. SD3 and LoM does.
Celes was also kind of emo after the events of the Magitek Factory and kind of emo after Locke freed her from the Empire during his 007 in South Figaro mission.
Terra probably was just as emo but I didn’t see it (I’m a huge fan of Terra so I’m biased).
And people thought 4 was hard? I thought 5 was much harder than 4 by a longshot. Flying Ruins of Lonka, the Pyramid and the Forest of Moore were just a few areas that would make you hate the game. Oh and don’t forget about the Ancient Library where by the time you get there, your level will be a multiple of 5 and guess which area has the highest concentration of foes abusing Level 5 Doom? Oh and watch out for that desert nearby! Lest you encounter an overpowered monster that will crush you with Aqualung (Yes you can learn it but you’ll probably be dead).
Let’s not even mention some of the bosses that were just stupid (Flying monster in the floating Ruins, Omega, Shinryu, Neo Ex-Death). Wander into a strange castle in the second world and suffer an uber quick death. Monsters being uber stingy with AP and the only area where you can level up your classes uber fast, is also full of monsters with will screw you up (Oh and good luck hoping for a mover to appear).
No, Squall became emo after Ellone left him when he was a child, because she was the only form of family status to him, with her abrupt departure he felt completely alone and thus came to a conclusion that the best way to no longer feel these lost emotions is to close everyone out. While he was a child, and during that stage, you can easily get manipulated or messed up, especially if the only form of a family you felt you had is no longer there.
Lastly, there isn’t anything particularly wrong with being emo, that’s the reason of conflict between characters in the FF world. It would be boring as hell if everything was all peaches and cream, why is it that characters who have personal conflict are more interesting from a storyline standpoint then someone who is completely pure?
That’s one of the reasons why I enjoyed Cloud as a protagonist, because in many cases he never acted like the protagonist due to his weak minded nature, which imo is what makes him different from most FF main protagonist and makes him very interesting as a character. Someone like Squall may have been emo, however I admired alot of the qualities that he brought by taking the path in life that he took as child to his “adulthood”. Because he is still Quistis best student, incredibly intelligent, a natural born leader, and when it came down to business, he simply got things done. Squall reminds me of characters who simply don’t speak alot however when it came doing the actual thing, they would let their actions speak. Reasons why I will always like his character (just wished they wrote his love storyline better).
Emo people are interesting in these FF stories, in fact for me personally, some of the most emo people in FF have been some of the most interesting characters from FF.
As in, the enemy is fire based. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE HIS WEAKNESS??!!
According to Japanese programmers, the American intellect has not evolved far enough to grasp such challenges.
In other news, did anybody except me try to beat final fantasy’s as low level and crappily equipped as possible? Around 16-17 I realized that if one simply proceeds through a FF in a standard manner they will be sufficiently powerful enough to decimate what should be the most difficult of moments.
So, my solution was to go as far as I could without new equipment, never spend time leveling, and basically fight bosses on a pray to god I live basis. Nothing was bettr than having two dead, and one in the red party member standing before me after an epic, longer than necessary battle I only won because I got lucky with potions and the boss not casting his AoE.
I agree with you about Cloud. He’s a pretty weak willed guy. It’s one of the best strength through friendship relationships that I’ve seen written. Clouds friends give him his strength. Without them he’s a pretty weak useless human being.
