The Final Fantasy Thread 2.0 | FFXV: OUT NOW! It Really Did Exist

Completionist OCD. :coffee:

You kidding me dude, when I saw that save crystal I wanted to make sweet love to it.

Say what you will about the story and game design (well deserved I might add), but it was the only final fantasy game that urged you to explore everything in sight. I went into the game without any sort of guide, and like Ultima, a lot of things would catch me by surprise. When I finished my first playthrough, I had clocked in about 190 hours, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Your problem, not mine.

no hate for XII, was a good game. I think I’m like the only person in the world to not play VII. I’ve went through every other one but for some reason I’ve skipped that one. I already know the whole damn story, is there any point to go through that game?

If you want to mess around with Materia, sure. Maybe fight some of them Weapons.

Otherwise, doubt it.

FFVII is beautiful. Definitely my favorite of the series. Then maybe IX then X.

I’ve said this before. FF12 felt very similar to FF11 to me. I built my parties in 12 like how parties were formed in 11. One character tanks (using the provoke monster spell), another as a ranged support/healer, and the third member as a damage dealer/backup tank/backup healer. One thing I liked in 12 is I could switch to any character and have them do what I wanted. With 11 you had to hope you were playing with competant players and everyone knew what they were doing.

The idea of giving enemies and pots a % drop rate for items in 12 is borrowed from 11. If you thought 12 was annoying here’s an example from 11. At endgame, when your character is strong enough (level 75) you and your linkshell (guild) can choose to fight what are referred to as high level notorious monsters. They’re the equivalent of S-rank mobs you hunt in 12. Anyone remember the mob ‘King Behemoth’ you hunted? Well in 11 there’s also a KB. The thing is it only spawns once every three days. That’s in real time. Every 24 hours a regular behemoth spawns and you have to kill it before the countdown starts for the next pop.

That… is on top of having to compete against other linkshells who want it for themselves. At least in 12 you aren’t fighting against other players to claim the mob when it does spawn. So what that means is you get about 100 level 75 players in a zone standing around waiting for a monster to appear. Lets say your group happens to claim it first, well you better make sure everyone knows what they’re doing because it can wipe your entire alliance in a couple of moves. If you do happen to kill it there’s a small %, not sure the exact number, probably around 10% the item you want drops.

Over the course of a year only around 120 of these will appear, and out of those 120 lets say your group claims it 25% of the time and can kill it every time. Congratulations, in one year you got the item you wanted 3 times. That’s not even getting into trying to figure out who out of the 18-25 members will receive it in the end.

I’m glad I never took part in FF11 endgame. Playing the game normally and levelling up was enough. What I’m saying is, any feelings of it being a grind or annoyances that people may have had in 12 I had no problems with since the reason I played 11 was to wait for 12 to come out after finishing X-2.

As for the Sphere Grid in X. It was fun, running the sphere grid wasn’t too bad. Just get a maxed out Yuna, break her damage limit. In any fight have her summon the Magus sisters and perform the sting attack with the bee sister. 15 hits x 99999 dmg kills pretty much everything in the game in one turn. Dunno why anyone would want to keep levelling up after that unless you were playing FFX international and wanted to fight those monster arena bosses with like 50 million hp.

I must be one of the only people who actually quite thoroughly enjoyed the characters and plot of FFVII, whilst simultaneously loathing all things game-play about it.

Oh, and despite/because of my love for the characters and story - fuck all the prequel reconning bullshit.

I swear - fucking weeaboos and their insanity can mess *anything *up.

This is my thing. When PSP FFT came out, I thought they would do a lot more with it you know. Like fully customizable classes. I don’t think the onion knight and the dark knight are anything special. The 2 special guest leave much to be desired as well. The multiplayer wasn’t at all what I was expecting yet it provided some fun. The only thing I truly appreciated were the cut scenes. Sure it was FFT with more. But after being shit on with FFTA and FFTA2, they could at least give us a true sequel. Because as much as I stomached those two games, they were both horrible compared to FFT at the end of the day.

ONEZ

I’m just saying, if he already knows the story and all that, then his incentives might be if he wants to messa round with Materias and some of the tougher battles in the game.

Oh, I hear ya - wasn’t arguing man.

I’d say that the story is worth playing out firsthand.

If that doesn’t get him, then the cut scenes most def should.

Great Crystal :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

Gawd that almost made me quit. I got excalibur purely by luck, and when I read how to get the other items I was just like wtf. NO. Every room a bunch of bombs explode and obliterate my party…BS…

The gameplay was pretty awesome, but it was all made pointless because everyone’s upgrades made them the same, or a disappointing cliche.

" Wow, look at all these options…oh, ranged magic user, melee person…(40 hrs later, everyone the same) The worst upgrade scheme in FF history imo.

Shit, I even fought the hell dragon and that other thing with the thirty little red life bars non stop because how the hell did I know you could walk out and save, and the damage would still be there. Had to leave the ps2 on pause for like a day.

According to Square, The Great Crystal is the “Nethicite Bank” of the Gods, a pathway to heaven, and a portal to other universes.

It only figures that it would be impossibly hard to get through.

LOL!

I remember I took a whole Sunday to fight Yiazmat, started on morning and killed him at night. That was a marathon.

Yeah, the Monster Arena is the real challenge for FF10 and the real reason to level up other than completionist syndrome. Storyline foes, like Seymour Omnis, Jecht and especially Yu Yevon are too easy for being final bosses.

Even the Magus Sisters won’t cut it against some of the big dogs there. Magus Sisters don’t have nothing on Wakka.

Storyline foes, Snowy Seymour gave me some problems, as did Yunalesca.

Most arena bosses DIDN’T give me problems actually, barring weak stats. By that I mean to beat them, I just grinded and fairly conventional strategies would garner a victory for me.

Course, I never finished the damn thing cause some of them took forever to get. I also never got Wakka’s Ultimate Weapon cause a whole season is like hours of playing.

Is it me or was FF9 the first (or only?) FF where the main character is actually shown to be in love with the heroine (Garnet) without any emo hassleness or that shit?

FFX, possibly?

It’s got weird laughing scenes and a water kissing scene.

Btw, Zidane was a bit emo. Near end of disc 3. But remember Zidane, You’re Not Alone!

Yeah, getting the Sigil for Wakka takes a LOT of time, true.

Seymour Flux was annoying for me too. When I found out that he could be silenced and POISONED, he wasn’t that tough anymore since no more Reflect > Flare and no more depending on Mortiorchis to drain his life. Only thing that remains annoying about him is the race half battle to avoid Total Annihilation but the Hastega, Poison and in last resource high HP Auron to tank the whole thing should be enough to not worry so much about it.

Yunalesca on the other hand, will always be a tricky fight, no matter your level. Mega Death FTL.

Did anyone like 10-2 Trema’s fight or the dungeon for that matter?

Any word on a U.S release of the FF13 Demo??
