I recommend a Dragoon or two…or the entire party.
So been playing FFTA2 for 8 hours now doing quests and trying to unlock jobs. Pretty fun so far , but I’m wondering does something interesting ever happen story wise?
Nope.
Story blows.
A couple of cool things happen, but for the most part it’s post-main game stuff.
I like to think post-game wise, with characters who enter worlds through books/portals, and the endings dictate them to return back to the world they belong, I always feel that a small part of the character that wants to stay in the world, does stay and take up a manifestation of him/her so you can DO the post-game stuff, while the part of the character that wanted to return home, returns home.
…Post-game FFTA, I couldn’t continue my quests because I missed one during the progress of the game, and I couldn’t unlock anymore. It now rests with my other GBA games.
So I was thinking about the FF7 Remake but not about whether or not it’s coming or not. But more the idea of what fans would want from it. I gather it’s been discussed but rather than start another new thread with a poll that would result in utter stupidity I’d rather keep said stupidity in this thread and thus minimize any ridicule I would get to the inhabitants of this thread.
Anyways FF7 remake…insta cash cow but also a potential for improving on something that is already pretty dear to most people. What also runs a risk is those people who loved it might see that the game perhaps hasn’t aged as well as they thought. So to start a bit of discussion, what would you want or what would you think is the best course of action for Square Enix to do in order make the FF7 remake worthwhile?
[list=1]
[*]Straight up Facelift: Nothing else changed except for the odd spelling mistake and miscommunication and glitch but everything stays the same with exception of the graphics. Just like the PS3 tech demo a couple years back or Advent Children just give it an upgrade graphically and the rest just be cherries and grapes.
[*]FF7: International version: Advanced: DS: Zodiac Edition: etc.: Much like past FF’s just a director’s cut of sorts or remixed edition of the game. Added features such as a added dungeon, character specific and thinly veiled character development quests. In some case it might mean…dun dun DUN, tweaking the materia system to be the same but different for something new. So basically same content but added features.
[*]FF7: Total Remake: OMFG how can they change perfection? By making a new perfection. Perhaps pulling off a ballsy yet potentially sexy and successful move; change up everything. Storyline, some concepts, perhaps even characters. Even add new characters into the mix, update the visuals and gameplay to reflect gaming of today’s standards, hell perhaps even have totally different graphical style from the top shelf anime realism of Advent Children. Make the remake worthwhile as something totally different but only paying homage to the original.
[*]FUCKIT, FF-SEVEN-TWO: Pull a sequel. True sequel. None of this Dirge of Cerebus shit, no film sequel, we want straight up a sequel that would make FF7 proud of it’s pedigree. A lot of FFs have been getting sequels from 4, 10 and 12, so why not one of the most open ended grand daddies of them all of 7?

I’ve been replaying FF12 again. What a great game, I honestly think it’s underrated, besides the storyline and license grid criticism it got. A question about the international version…besides the modification to how the license grid works, are there any differences in terms of monster/boss difficulty, new areas/equipment, etc?
SE would be stupid, I mean FUCKING STUPID!! Not to be working on the remake at this very moment. I would be willing to bet large sums of money that SE has been working on this bitch for awhile.
Well, I’m not particularly fond of FFVII, so I’d sugges the following improvements, in order of what I personally would prefer:
- Game overhaul (battle system mucho improvements, maybe FFX-2 engine if they wanna stick to ATB, revamp Materia system, balance issues)
- Plotting/writing improvements
- Masashi Hamauzu composes
- Wouldn’t mind it being a sequel
- Graphics overhaul
And I wouldn’t want it to be:
- Just a ported FFVII (mainly cause I don’t like it as is)
I do have to say I am just not looking foward to FF 13 at all, it is looking more like an action game with light rpg elements. Although you could say that about 12 to, which imo sucked.
Is that Bahamut game a remake of Bahamut Lagoon on SNES or something? Or is it a completely new game? Gotta love the music on the site, sounds like preparation music before some big shit goes down.
One thing about FF7 that’s aged well is the Golden Saucer. That place has godly mini games, they’re timeless, just like the story and battle system is for me.
Yeah I feel the same way, Jae. I never even bothered to beat 12, I wasn’t feeling anything about that game. Stupid friends.
me
"How’s the battle system?"
them
"Fucking awesome, man."
me
"How about the story?“
them
"Even better.”
So I go out and get it, and damn was I disappointed. Shit sucked.
This maybe just me and I am not a graphics whore but I tried to go back and play FF 7 and that game is so ugly now it was almost unplayable. What was state of the art 3D graphics back then looks blocky and disgusting now.
Yeah the plot was just another government is evil blah blah blah storyline with a really stripped down even more dummyfied version of WoWs battle system. Vaan sucked ass to, fuck that guy.
Not liking FFXII is one thing but I really don’t see the parallels to it being an action game…
Unless you mean the game takes place in real time?
You had to be right next to the enemies to hit them, right? Only thing keeping it from being an action game was the ATB wait in between spells and attacks. If that wasn’t there, it would be the same as Kingdom Hearts. Action, with RPG elements. Shit, I remember when playing it I would just run around enemies until my ATB meter filled up then I’d go near them to attack. If you used magic I think you can attack from far, though.
^ I agree that the story was meh in FF12. A lot of people like to hype it up, but basically it was exactly that: “The government is bad! Stop the bad government!” And Vaan was a weeeaaak main character. It didn’t seem like he mattered much at all. However, I think the rest of the characters were pretty damn cool (especially Balthier, Basch, and Fran).
I really liked the fighting system, too. Yeah, it is a stripped down MMO battle system, but combined with the license board, which I think was great, your options were pretty much endless. You could customize and pimp out your characters to the point of raping anything in your path, especially if you set up your gambits well. Overall I loved the game, but the storyline contributed barely anything to my sentiments.
Vaan’s not the main character. He’s just the guy you go around as in town. >_>
I still wouldn’t define it as more of an action game though. Just because you have to be next to the enemy (range) doesn’t make it any more actiony (particularly when there’re long range skills, and also that melee combat doesn’t really define action as a whole). Considering the game had hardly anything to do with reflexes, as opposed to Kingdom Hearts. Misses are calculated/randomized (Kingdom Hearts is hitbox based, like most other action games).
Just saying. Hate the game if you want, but I think you’re describing the game wrong. >_>
FFV is pretty uninteresting until gilgamesh comes.
