Seriously, FFIX is one of the best in the series, period. Sure is a lot better then VII or X could ever dream of being in my opinion.
Final Fantasy IV [or II? The one with Cecil] was a badass game.
I’m using the menu/item translation patch that came out for the DS version of it.

This game makes me remember why I love Square so much. These low poly remakes can keep comin if you ask me. The visuals just fit the game so well. Plus I love Cecil’s voice. They really nailed it.
FF9 is an excellent game, i liked it more than 8 but not more than 7 or 10. Currently I must say 12 is the crown holder. I didn’t think Ff got much better than 10–but wow!!
Just Like Darkstalker said the ending was excellent. One of the few FF that had a complete ending.
I cant wait for FF13, next month I’ll be gettin in some Crisis Core action.
I’ll have to take another look at XIII. Last time I seen it [which was A LONG TIME AGO], it reminded me of a DMC game [lotta gun play screen shots]. I heard there was an RPG based one and a platform-type one.
Like I said, I’ll look into it. It’s all good.
What’s everybody’s verdicts on FFIX? I’m about to play it on my PSP and I’m wondering how it is?
FF7 is the best FF ever made. I shouldn’t have to explain. Everything about it is pretty much awesome. Except for the whole Cloud/Zack backstory… I don’t know why they added it as a “side story”. It seemed to be important enough to be part of the main story. I mean… Cloud is the hero afterall! This game had awesome music as well.
FF8 sucks. The storyline was shitty. And how the hell does the love between Rinoa and Squall magically spark? One minute Squall is to protect her or something like that, and then the next minute they’re on that ship and Rinoa is sitting on Squall’s lap. I didn’t like the combat system either.
FF9 was ok. I’m not a fan of the artwork. I think I was pretty close to beating the game, but then I just didn’t bother finishing it. Sooo can’t say much about the game, except the battle music was nice.
FF10 was pretty good. The storyline was a typical one, but it was the first FF with voiceovers and all that stuff which made it really fun and absorbing. Combat system was nice too, I liked it. Along with the grid system or whatever it was called. This game had awesome music as well.
FF10-2 was ok. Storyline was cheesy, and I felt like I was playing a hentai game. With all that aside, the combat system was neat and the bunch of sidequests got you playing the game a few times and exploring all over the place. The music here is bareable…
FF12… Well I didn’t touch it because the main character looked too… umm… how do i describe it without offending those… ahh yes, metrosexual. That’s the word. He looked too metrosexual so I didn’t want to paly the game.
Seriously, enough with the “handsome” hero, and the “almost naked” females. There are better looking character designs you can use the awesome graphics engines for. I mean, sure it’s nice to see naked girls, but who wears almost nothing to go fight? You’ll easily catch splinters and crap!!
As for the old school FFs, it’s just been too long since I’ve played any of them. Last I remember, they were good. I’m actually gonna play 6(3 in US) again. Been too long.
Samething i thought about 12, dont let that stop you from playing one of the best FF games. Once you See and Hear Vaan talk…you’ll retract what you said.
Lol, Vaan ain’t the main char…
12 is my fav…sky fucking pirate…
I’m playing through 8 again. Call me crazy, but I like it.
^Nah it’s OK mate, my bro’s been trying to get FF8 for a while now ;).
Man one of these days I know I’m gonna play FF9 again, and would make it hmm the 8th time? I love that game <3
is there anyway for me to outbid that old fart with his kid at the auction house in ff6?
Afaik you can’t.
Does the game allow you to go over 999,999 Gil? I can’t remember, but you probably can’t anyway.
1 - has strong nostalgic value for me, despite the linear game play, forgettable NPCs and forgettable main characters (after all, your main characters have no personalities). i loved it. my favorite memory was one day i was fucking around with the kung fu guy, which so far had sucked. i decided to unequip his weapon, and lo and behold he did shitloads of damage. i was like WTF!??!?! i remember i killed the final boss by casting haste on my kung fu guy, and he did 2k damage, enough to kill chaos in one hit.
2j - love the levelling system. you basically increase the stats that you use. for example, use meelee attacks, increase str. use magic, and you increase your mana. get hurt in battle, increase your hp. this led to abuses. for example, you could attack yourself, to ensure you would gain tons of hp. i played it without abusing it, and it was very fun, despite linear gameplay and still pretty forgettable characters.
3j - could not find a trasnlation for the rom, so i never played it. too lazy to get into it now.
2 (4 in japan) - pretty bad looking back. linear gameplay and easy bosses. since i played it as a kid it has nostalgic value for me. i loved the characters, and the story was ok. kain was a badass. if i were cecil i would have killed that mofo for trying to get with rosa though.
3 (6 in japan) - the first final fantasy i ever played and the best. great characters. pretty open ended gameplay later in. memorable bosses. epic storyline. and of course, the FANTASTIC SOUNDTRACK, which only serves to strengthen the nostlgia.
7 and up - never played em, probably never will. i hated how ff went 3d (just like i hated how my favorite side scrollers went 3d as well). it loses something in translation.
You’re doing yourself a disservice not playing FF12
I remember when I discovered that too. a friend kept telling me how awesome blackbelts were but he didn’t mention they had to be naked to be awesome. My only frustration with the first one, was this area with a ton of zombies… I died a few times because I was completely helpless, there would be like 8 zombies attacking and their attacks have a random chance of putting me to sleep(or something that disabled them). so my whole party would be asleep while being pummeled, and when some would awaken they wouldn’t get a chance to attack.
FF4 was my first FF and I loved that game, though I haven’t played it in years. FF6 is by far my favorite in the series, just soo many memorable things about it…
actually for part 2 there was much more abuse you could do…there was a glitch in the game where instead of actually having to do perform the command all you had to do was target something and it would give you a point toward whatever it is… for example I had all my people barehanded(since it was cheaper)… then I would just go into battle and press a,a,b.
a - selecting attack
a - targeting an enemy
b - canceling
and I would count to 100 for each character, since anything more would be pointless. Except the last character because once you confirm the target for them it starts the attack, so you just have to switch them to an earlier position to level them. Pretty early in the game I had my barehands at around level 13(16 is max) and I had Cure and a random magic spell pretty high as well.
This works for magic too except you add an extra A, making the sequence A,A,A,B.
a - selecting magic
a - selecting a spell
a - targeting an enemy
b - canceling
The problem is that once you get to higher levels it seems to take longer to level the stats.
12 just never hooked me
after about 6 hours of giving it my best try i just couldnt play through it
I named my chars in FF1 after the protagonists of Yu Yu Hakusho =(
