Well my issue with the article is that you went to fucking IGN lol. I refuse to give them even a single hit. They are trash.
This game was at PAX, except not. Apparently nerds waitin 3 hours + in line for a TRAILER rofl. They will now have to wait until there is a sale for being such shitheads.
@ExposedD Almost all your posts in this thread prove you’re far too favorably biased towards TEW and Mikami to be a fair judge of either. It’s great to see a friend so hype about a game that I’m also hype for but the difference between us is that I can be at least somewhat objective about it while you would still call TEW perfect even if it turned out to be the worst game of all time. None of us have played it or even seen it in person all we have are a few preview videos from youtube, so we are not in a position to judge if IGN’s criticisms of TEW apply or not, yet despite those facts you still defend the game and attack IGN for having an opinion. Just a tip for the future if you want anyone to give your thoughts and opinions any degree of respect you must be willing to think logically and not let your feelings dictate everything you type.
Anyone who doesn’t understand IGN’s complaints is a hypocrite, now let me explain what I mean. IGN is simply saying that the protagonist is not reacting to the game’s universe at all, and that takes away their ability to feel any sort of immersion which is the main pillar of the survival horror genre. If the protagonist himself isn’t scared at all about what is going on in the game then how can the player controlling that protagonsit be expected to feel scared? Especially in a game like TEW that has a heavy emphasis on psychological horror and the protagonist’s state of mind. I remember when Dead Space 1 came out a lot of people did not like that the protagonist Isaac Clarke was silent the whole game, he just took orders from everyone around him being everyone’s bitch boy and never once questioning anyone or saying how he feels or anything and for a lot of people that made it hard to feel scared whenever something scary happened to Isaac because they did not respect the character so they weren’t personally invested. True horror or terror is an incredibly hard feeling to translate into video game form successfully because it is very easy for their to be a disconnect between the player and the character he/she controls, the game needs to make the player feel as if they’re inside that world so that when something scary happens to the player’s character it feels as if it’s also happening to the player. Watching something scary happen to someone is usually not nearly as scary as when it happens to you and to the IGN guys they did not get that feeling due to the protagonist not making them feel a connection between him and the player. As far as the second complaint about feeling overpowered goes that was MY primary concern when the game came out, having too much ammo will ruin the game, then again I already know TEW is not meant to be true survival horror as it’s tryng to be RE4 instead of RE 1-3.
Now whether these valid complaints apply to TEW or not…I have no idea and I won’t until I play the game, but because of how excited I am for it I hope IGN is wrong as they usually are.
@shatterstar I agree with some of your points, but you fail to realize that horror is like comedy; it’s extremely subjective what you find scary is not what other people will find scary and the opposite as well so it’s kind of immature to berate another person for feeling the way they do. I think Zoolander is one of the funniest and most clever comedies ever, but some others might disagree who is right? No one because there is no standard measurement for what is funny and the same holds true for horror.
@jimmy1200 …Yeah I’m not going to bother breaking down the countless logical fallacies in your rant. I will say though it’s the ultimate irony your post proved you’re guilty of all the things you accused IGN of being
uh, fuck all those garbage ass games before resident evil. get the fuck outta here with that shitty ass ign list. a couple of 8 bit games, and a extremely not scary and shitty game that only came out for pc,mac, and eventually 3DO are suppose to make me feel bad for calling mikami the father of survival horror. nigga, please go jump off a bridge. lol
you can descend from your thrown if you want, and break down my logical fallacies. id like to know how im wrong about ign trying to shit on a game for an out of context demo that they watched, coming from a man who has been the director and producer on the best resident evil games to come out, amongst director and producer of a bunch of other A class games. id be more inclined to give mikami the benefit of the doubt that he knows how to instill fear when he wants, and will produce some “flawless” action too in the final product.
its april 15th 2014, and the game doesnt roll out until august, everyone needs to relax. yeah, i feel some type of way about game journalist trying to hint at a possible shitty final product based off of a demo they just watched, and didnt even play. hopefully they will drop a demo to the public before release to give people a better feel for the game, and all the haters will have to eat that mikami dick when the final product turns out to be just as great as some of us expected, plus some.
imma go ahead and stan for the homey Mikami. fools out here acting like his resume isnt thorough as fuck, and somehow this game he has been working on for almost 5 years is just gonna be a big pile of shit. hell, the only reason “shadows of a damned” even turned out remotely decent was because he was the creative producer on it, and if it was up to suda, as mikami stated, “it would have sold even less”. my nigga mikami out here turning likely steamy turds into solid silver pieces, even under severe time constraints and frustration.
I’m curious who were you addressing or did you mean everyone at IGN?
@jimmy1200 Bill O’ Reilly ass nigga continue sucking off Mikami and being in denail of facts, but the truth is he is not the father of survival horror whether you like it or not, so when you enter reality I’ll be happy to address the many flaws in your previous post. Also as @S00perCam said in another thread, when a great game is made it is a gross oversimplification to give one man all the credit, give credit to those who worked on the individual aspects be it the lighting, mechanics, music, whatever. This mentality that we can pretend 1 guy makes an entire game by himself and that we should ignore everyone else needs to go.
I’m just as big a Mikami fan as you, but I’m not going to be ignorant of the facts, if you choose to be biased and in denial okay coolthat’s your life not mine I’m not here to insult you I just call it as I see it.
I’ll be pissed at Mikami if TEW ends up giving you too much ammo, I miss that “oh shit I got 2 bullets and there are 3 zombies in this room” tension, TEW is in my top5 most anticipated games of 2014 so it better deliver.
I think anyone who was ever an RE fan is happy to be getting a reskinned RE4. Earlier in the thread what I said was that making another RE4 instead of something completely different with RE roots or at least something similar to RE 1-3 seems like a missed opportunity rather than a complain. It’s kind of like choosing between door 1 and door 2 and by choosing door 1 you’re getting 1 million dollars when you could have gotten 2 million dollars, it’s a win/win ether way.
When TEW was announced I was just hoping for a game where ammo would be scarce because to me that is the true root of a RE game, and who knows maybe we’ll still get that.
I haven’t read the article myself but I’ve seen others discussing it. On the whole main character not reacting to things happening in the environment, it might just be something that is still to be added. Its not like we are that close to release and the demo shown wont be super recent, they are normally a few months behind. Its the kind of game I would likely buy on launch either way, but I would be disappointed if I didn’t find the game challenging and tense to play through. I might still enjoy it, but those are the kind of situations I want to be plentiful in this game.
I did watch the most recent trailer and it seems that the game has deviated slightly from the overall impression I got from last years E3 build. I got a little more of an action/drama vibe from the recent trailer than the claustrophobic/dark vibe I got from the E3 build. Not quite sure what to expect anymore, but I would take talk of the game being rubbish with a large pinch of salt. Let them get the game completed, Sony thought Demon Souls was rubbish, I disagreed with that.
Not ashamed to admit I have a little bit of blind hope for this game. I have a lot of expectation of what I want it to be, but I have no idea what it will be. Mikami isn’t perfect, but I think he has earned a bit of faith from fans with his past works. I just hope there aren’t too bad a limitations being placed on him by Zenimax, or was it Bethesda? Whoever it is that is publishing the game.
Seriously though I agree with everything you said. Go watch the video and read the short article when you can, I’m sure you’ll see that their complaints are complaints that you have had about other games you’ve played. Dead Space 1 is my second favorite horror game ever, but the protagonist being everyone’s bitch just taking orders without ever talking did take me out of the experience a bit. I like silent protagonists, but I prefer it like in Dead Space 2 where Isaac grew some balls and actually told people to shut the fuck up at times lol.
not seeing the whole "it’s like RE4 comparison other than the how the 3rd person perspective is done. More closely fitting to how it was done in that RE5 Gold Edition with micro mansion DLC.
IMO, it’s more like a what if Shinji was hired by Konami to do his take on how Silent Hill Series should look like then sprinkled crack cocaine on the finished product.
in other words, I could care less what people think it’s going to be like or remind themselves of. The game is going the best game out before Christmas and people will sleep on it because people at IGN still have jobs.
Lastly, you still have to respect Sweet Home. If that NES game was never made then there would’ve never been a RE to begin with. Shinji used a lot of stuff from that game… even BACKTRACKING…
i would actually love a next gen game done in the same style that Sweet Home was made.
That lvl up of the pitch fork is broken though, lol. Highly effective.
Had to make a video about this whole IGN thing.
I knew i was missing something , like a piece of a puzzle , so i decided to go back and watch all the footage i had seen of the game
when i came to a part which i had seen sooooooooooooooooooooooooo many times , that it hit me , like lightning from the skies ,
that there is a HUGE hole in what it is IGN has said. So watch the video i made for yourself and then tell me if IGN has any credibility.
@orochizoolander
How are you gonna call yourself a fan of Mikami and then getting doubtful because of what IGN says,
instead of just letting the name “Mikami” speak for itself? Dosen’t make any sense to me.
You are right i might be a bit biased but that is because of how aware i am of the quality in a Mikami title.
You are a friend , and i don’t want you 2 get upset by what i just said. But it’s the way i feel about the whole thing.
@ExposedD I already answered that question before you even asked it. I’m a fan while you’re a fanboy. Feel however you want, but there is a huge difference between saying something is very likely to be good and something is definitely going to be good. It’s good that you can at least admit you’re biased (although it’s wayyyy more than a bit lol), a lot of gamers lie to themselves and others claiming to be objective when in reality they act like a 13 year old girl at a Justin Beiber concert when talking about a certain game or developer
I think you should go back and re read my long post addressed to you, and I’m sure you’ll see I have plenty of faith in Mikami, but unlike you I don’t let that faith blind me to the truth.
As a die-hard fan of Dead Space (1 & 2, fuck 3 and it’s DLC true ending), and of Resident Evil, I am hype as fuck for TEW, Shinji Fucking Mikami is IMO the Shigeru Miyamoto of survival horror. I don’t give a damn what reviewers say about it, nor have I any fucks to spare for those in need. I really hope it has very little music, as Music typically kills the scary vibe in horror games. There are scenarios where it adds to it, such as in chapter 9 of Dead Space, but then you get stuff like RE 5/6 where the music reminds you that it is merely an action game with mild horror elements. Amnesia is cool, but I prefer Dead Space, where you usually have exactly enough ammo, but if you ever miss, you’re completely fucked. Resident Evil did a great job of “oh shit, I have no ammo”.
