The Evil Within - "True survival horror"

You should ask yourself what did he expect , because it certainly wasn’t a new-gen RE4 , nor was it a ol’fashioned RE game.
Perhaps he wanted it to be like Amnesia? " "

that doesn’t make it ok and you should buckle down and submit to it.

i watched the video and found it pretty funny you actually think this is a valid argument.

  1. the atmosphere is generic and stealth is only necessary in the first 2 chapters. the only use for it outside these 2 is for stunning enemies and quick killing them and disarming traps.
  2. if you know how to play with everything they give you then you won’t run out of resources thus making hiding trivial. that plus the keys (that aren’t hard to find) they give you for the lockers also gives you ammo or exp.
  3. a side from one or 2 areas like the ones shown in that video are extremely forgettable and cliche. hospital, mansion, church.
  4. these enemies are not unique at all just RE4 zombie with metal sticking out of their head or a few cuts and bruises. they even brought in chainsaw guy and those giants only a bit smaller or with a club.
  5. finally weapons aren’t suppose to make you feel satisfied in survival horror. they’re not suppose to feel “awesome”. chapter 1-2 here you are actually powerless and need to avoid enemies. chapter 3 here is a shotgun and crossbow with explosive tips and harpoons that do massive damage…uh ok…

i’m starting to think you’re just trolling me.

i’m not trolling. i just don’t see what you are trying to achieve here.
you’ve said that you don’t think it’s good survival horror even though it very clearly is
and you keep repeating yourself like a broken record. Like… What do you want me to tell you?

The fact that you feel like the game has misled you just tells me that you are dumb as fuck , that’s what i’m gonna say about that.
And i don’t feel like you are capable of telling what makes good survival horror and what does not , and that is judging by your posts so far.

Before TEW was released there was already tons of footage and gameplay , even whole chapters of the game ,
so you have nobody but yourself to blame for feeling like you’ve been decieved or whatever. The game holds
everything that it was marketed as. If people for themselves would take
the effort to look more into games before spending their money on them… @Davidstar <- can be avoided

I will answer your list with a minimal response as possible.

  1. The atmosphere does everything it needs to do
  2. How is that a bad thing exactly? You are saying that it’s a bad thing to be able to master a game?
  3. The environments are well designed and the game has great variety , who cares if you didn’t like them
  4. RE4 did not have zombies , idiot
  5. It never occured to you that the difficulty ramps up as the game progresses? Go finish chapter 3 with nothing but the handgun and put it on youtube , if you manage to do that i’ll cut off my left nut.

So there , i’m done. I’m not going to reply to you anymore as you are irrelevant and obviously just upset because your lazy bum ass
couldn’t take the time to research a game which turned out to be a new RE4 (which exactly EVERYONE knew)
instead of a new silent hill 2 / GC RE-remake / whatever the fack floats your boat

Well if we are talking weapons, I feel Condemned was rough. Seeing as how all your weapons had health and you really preferred to not fight the enemies if you could help it.

  1. you didn’t address the stealth issue. it’s not atmosphere it’s just gore factor
  2. that’s the thing i didn’t master it it’s just easy to figure out plus the fact that they give you more than enough to make do.
  3. is subjective ,but whatever church, hospital, mansion has been done to death.
  4. you’re really grasping at straws. ok fine plagas what the fuck ever.
  5. as a matter of fact i did only use a handgun and i didn’t even use it on the chainsaw guy. all i had to do what abuse the checkpoint system and use the house (where you find the agony crossbow) run in and out while he followed and trigger the traps (floor spikes) and he was dead.
it shouldn’t be about the limitation i put on myself, it should be about the limitations the game places on me.
next you’re gonna tell me to blindfold myself and tie my hand around my back.
    here you fucking go

yeah i kept up with the game i still gave it the benefit of the doubt.
i hadn’t seen everything it had to offer so i’m not going to assume anything.
it has been getting great reviews calling it survival horror ,and this game hasn’t been out very long.

edit: also shinji mikami is one of my favorite developers ,and i love most if not all his games. so everything was pointing to good.

I never liked breakable weapons. I’ve always found it annoying. Silent Hill Origins did that and it was crap.

Its obvious what he expected. He expected what the title of this thread implies, that The Evil Within would be a true survival horror game, when it is in fact not. I see ignorance all over this thread from people that clearly have no sense whatsoever. People arguing against the designs that literally define the genre. Such as limited ammo, weapons, and other resources. Stricter save systems. Less enemy encounters usually with an option to flee. And an overall slower game pace. But the second someone criticizes these ACTION horror games saying they aren’t survival horror. You jump on them with such an intense amount of ignorance its almost frightening. But of course the responses usually boil down to “hur dur you just want static cameras and tank controls” Completely blinded by your own irrationality to see the genre for what it truly is. Because obviously to you modern games like Alien Isolation which actually incorporates all of those “archaic” design choices must be bad because of its obviously dated mechanics. When in actuality its the one game released this year that deserves the title of True Survival Horror. Games like TEW and RE4 don’t even aspire to be in this genre. And that my simple minded friends, is a fact.

@Davidstar‌

that second account of yours sure did the trick huh?

Lol. I’m my own me. Should I link you to my Facebook page? Or should I continue to let you stew in your own ignorance?

What I find most troubling, I mean besides your paranoid nature. Is that you found a way in your mind to completely ignore everything I just said. Its like you’re fooling yourself.

@d3v‌
@Valaris‌
@pherai‌

Whoever of you reads this first. Please close this thread.
The game obviously does not get the appreciation it deserves here on SRK ,
so having a thread about it is kinda pointless , especially when there are idiots who
jump on their 2nd account and starts to flagbomb.

edit : thank you !

Omg you’re such a baby. Two like minded individuals can’t possibly disagree with you on the internet? Nope

Prove my first post wrong? Pretty please? That’s all I want. A thought out response.

The ass pain is strong in Exposed.

We are using this thread just as Intended, to discuss TEW.
Sorry this thread isnt just a huge circle jerk.

Also lol second account

I decided to try TEW on the hardest difficulty. Yeah… I am cool on that. Take way too much damage. I really would like it if they had some sort of mercenary style mode, I think it would increase the replay-ability for the game. Also I would have liked a better final boss fight. Ruvik was dope, and even with all the backstory, I feel I still didn’t know shit about him. Either way TEW could have been a GOTY contender if they would have tightened up some things about it. But either way, the game is solid, and I recommend it to anyone interested.

From what I Saw: (too sick play)

Pros]

  • atmosphere
  • mivture of previous games even shawdows of the damned
  • they hit back
  • invisible “zombie”
  • graphics are up there and polished
  • it’s an overall great game and a proper rep of how SH could be done right
  • no/little to no backtracking.

Cons]

  • they went RE1 on the dialog, as in, short and vague. this hurt the story and the experience, so I hate games with really non existent motive which leads to…
  • no clear answers to the plot and why you should even move forward, especially the ending.
  • takes too long to develop into a game with direction. IMO, game doesn’t get good until about chapter 9.
  • hated how melee attacks were animated.

Judgement:
as a game - 8/10
as a SH game - 9/10

Mikami did his job.

Lol.

SRK. Never pleased about anything. And then the threads for games like CoD and LoL are some of the longest.

Shit cracks me up.

one thing I really can’t get over is the camera and it’s black bars during gameplay. I can’t understand the reasoning behind it other than to make some artificial cinematic experience which I don’t care for. it’s a video game, not a damn movie. why not just keep the bars during cutscenes instead of cutting my visibility during gameplay? what’s worse is there’s no option (that I know of) on console to disable this, which is even more infuriating…

WTF is going on in this topic.

I know earlier, played it, enjoyed it, but why I enjoyed it, well… let’s just say I won’t recommend it my friends around me.
Let’s just say; I love games with a lot of exploits and bugs. I dunno, something about buggy ass games turn me on. It’s my fetish, I’m sorry, it might have something to do with the brain damage I had as a child. I love running into an area that fucks up the game so bad… OMG… just… ugh, I need a new keyboard just thinking about it.

But yeah, I don’t remember the music. I don’t care for the story. Gameplay is basically full of action. If it’s a horror game, I’m not sure where the horror begins. Just cause everyone has a gray filter on it and has blood with “monster”, doesn’t make it a horror game. If you’re going to use that logic, then Injustice Gods Among Us is possibly the scariest game out there.

If you like the game, that’s cool. But if you’re a fanboy and cry cause other people don’t like it, fuck is your problem. Calm down gurl, everything gonna be airght.

new patch gives you the option to remove letterbox , don’t know if it is exclusive to PC or if it is on console aswell.
