The End of a "Empire"?

lol shaddap no it wasn’t. single player was fun and had cgi boobz, but the distributors shit on everybody that bought a legit copy of the game. multiplayer was miserable.

this is going to be a long post, but i want to try and clear up some misconceptions about EMP.

as some of you might know, i’m one of the more recent members to join empire. while i’ve been playing games at a decent level for years, i never really got into the mainstream games until lately because none of the games i got into had very big communities (kof, tvc, arcana, melty, bb, etc). though i actually did win alot of the philly vanilla sf4 ranbats, and some other local tristate area tourneys in the first few months of it but i was basically forced to quit because my xbox rrrod’d and i had no way to practice. anyways when marvel 3 came out, i hit the lab harder than i have for any other game and it paid off pretty well as i had a good showing at winter brawl (besides singles anyways, where i narrowly lost to justin). as some of you might know, im not exactly in the best health condition and i planned on winter brawl being the last major event i would go to before i stopped playing games altogether. i had a talk with triforce shortly after the money matches at big eric’s room and simply told him that i couldn’t join empire because of personal reasons, but rather i wanted to just come to the arc to practice sometime and he obliged. philly’s scene was kind of all over the place at the time as everyone lived kind of far from each other and i knew that training mode wasn’t gonna continue to cut it.

i really felt like it would be a shame if i had quit after being so close with winter brawl, so i continued to practice and made plans for final round, which utterly failed (3 different people that planned to go, either wound up not going or forgot to pick me up). to try and salvage the situation, i took my money and went to pax east, where i ran into triforce again. he was presenting the king of chinatown at a panel there and invited me to come see it. unfortunately i couldn’t because it conflicted with the marvel 3 tourney there, so he just wished me luck. later that weekend, i won the tourney, though it wasn’t free… it was a full 256 man bracket and there were some good ec & wc players in attendance that didn’t make final round. after the tourney i went to go catch the q&a part of the king of chinatown panel and when that was over i had another talk with triforce. he figured i had won the tourney already, and he asked me why i didn’t want to join empire before. so i gave him the details, and he simply asked me to come down to the arc for a day after the event. i told him i would and that i would’ve went there sooner but i had some complications rise up between winter brawl and then, so i just didn’t have the time.

anyways, about a week later i went to nyc and it was during that time i found out what empire was really about. i always knew about the stigma it had, but logically there’s always two sides to one coin and my trip there confirmed it for me. triforce might be an eccentric, but he’s passionate about the brand making it. i won’t deny that he makes mistakes, but he’s certainly committed to seeing it through. he isn’t some opportunist snake looking out for only himself… believe it or not, he has given up opportunities for personal advancements to try and get advancement for the company as a whole (nintendo offered to fly him to cali to work as a community manager, similarly to what s-kill does for capcom). even the seemingly nutty things he does like waiting outside for weeks for nintendo product launches are very valuable promotional opportunities. knowing what i know now about it, i felt like joining would be the right choice, since i can easily see it going far and i haven’t regretted the decision since it has given me opportunities i wouldn’t have had otherwise.

and for the record, he doesn’t ‘strip’ people for winnings to help fund the empire or anything like that. i feel like this is a major pretense of knowledge… it’s no secret that some players reside at the arc. he simply asks those that stay there to pitch in for rent. he doesn’t profit off of the players like that, nor does he need to (emp has sponsors… like Qanba, the stick manufacturer). i don’t reside there and he has never asked for one red cent of my winnings, though i personally always make sure to reimburse him for what he gives me if i need to get somewhere for a tourney.

Well I think he should have taken the job at Nintendo if it was offered. Sorry but that is a dummy move. You can have passion but at least be smart about it. Why struggle to pay bills when you have an opportunity right in front of you. When keeping it real goes wrong and I mean that in no disrespect.

I agree. There are times where you gotta put yourself first, this is one of them.

No disrespect taken. You’re completely right. 70k down the drain, however I learned the lesson. I loved the Empire more than I loved myself. Now…I change up the game. The Empire is far from dead though. That much I’ll tell you. Wait until the shocker at the end of this month.

Thank you for your testimony Mugetsu.

GL to Triforce, and to the members of EMP. I’m sure you guys will be back in some way, you’ve been a force on the EC for too long to vanish, and you guys have a passion for your brand that I’m not sure any other gaming team can match. From a personal standpoint, playing casuals @ Next Level with some of you guys in Marvel really helped push my game, and made me a better player.

BTW, tell DragonGod I need to FT10 mirror match him at some point (maybe @ SB:V?)

A reality show to teach me how to play

competitive gaming should be a success! finding the announces to give us the feeling like we are playing the game is tough
reading move sets or Oh no! double damage, looks like trouble for the other team! is laaame…
I think fighting games are the easiest in delivering the sense like we are playin although we are watching. (its just the when we play, the execution and everything is much harder!)

Can’t you ask them if that position is still open?

ECN on Triforce’s appearance and actions

On a real level im annoyed by how much a caricature Triforce makes himself out to be. At one point in time he was juggling the careers of a bunch of talented gamers and his attitude and presence would have fucked them over and to one dude he apparently did.His attitude towards this shit was not very serious at all that wannabe stu harts dungeon he had for his guys was not smart all.His way of acting in character at all times was not smart at all.Him backing KoCT without apparently viewing the final cut is not smart at all.He honestly comes across as naive and a manchild just from reading this thread ,the movie and that blogpost.

He could have taken marketing ,business classes and a bunch of stuff at city college.Dude has no excuse to be this naive and he lives in NY cmon son.

lmao, i thought its what he was doin! haha

Yeah… nobody that knows much about EMP thinks Triforce is some evil, selfish guy… so Mugetsu’s “testimony” doesn’t say much.

The knock on Triforce is that he’s a delusional individual, that lacks anything close to a business plan.

Being “passionate” is great. Passion doesn’t pay the bills though.

ahh, okay.

EMP is finally going to have a website?

I say just rebuild slow.

are u implying emp is a hobby for triforce?

Dude videogames are a hobby no matter how you shake it. Unless you’re making them or getting enough money to where you don’t have to work a regular 9-5 it is a hobby.

Video games are a hobby unless you are playing Starcraft or Dungeon Fighter in Korea.

Can someone please explain to me what was the whole point of EMP beside him trying to make money? If he was in for the money at least be good at that. There is no way anyone can be a worse businessman than him. You can’t rep you are professional and you are CEO of this and that when you can’t even even act professional. I highly doubt he graduated college like he claimed. Why would you be working cashier if you are a college grad? You can easily find an office job, even if it’s shitty pay. I call BS on his college claim. The worst part about this is somehow his childish behavior rubbed on to the other EMP members. Those are grown ass men in the crew acting like they’re 12 years and doing nothing with their lives. I’m glad the whole shit is dead so these people can finally go back to reality and realized how much time they wasted just playing video game in an apt all day.

I lost it here and LOL’ed. In the office. At my SUCKER 9-5 JOB.
Looks at modest pay stub, knows there will be another one in two weeks
