The Dudley Thread

Coming from a couple years of trying to make SSFIV Duds work in my local arcades, and some serious character research, I can say this one thing with certainty. Is Dudley the easiest to play, no. Is this Dudley easy to play? Oh frickin hell yea. Duds is very solid in this engine. Frame advantage for days, invincible DP for bs tactics to keep them guessing, hit confirms that can be tailored to EVERY situation. Normal ranges aren’t that bad…I wouldn’t use step straight though lol (f.hp)

Oh, and the most important thing. This Dudley doesn’t have to worry about a thousand character-specific setups (SSFIV: Balrog-specific confirms, juggle specifics for EVERY character…) his essentials work on everyone. About the only other thing you will be fighting is getting ran from, but that’s normal for a Duds player. They scared :slight_smile:

This fHK is just sooo cool. I love it.
I play Duds as anchor, so he usually comes in after a launch or lariat tag. After the KD so many people get hit by meaty fHK into crMP. Even after a trade you can connect the crMP :slight_smile:

Really? In general I understand :slight_smile:
But with Duds? EX MGB, MGB, Counter, jHK bounce works all pretty well imo

Dhalsim is the worst. Players online just mash teleport and get out of any type of pressure. Soooo annoying. If they played any other character they would get bodied. I think dhalsim is really good in this game.

you can get hit by any poke out of mgb(lp,mp,hp,ex) the counters start up is slow and only works on mid/high jHk is a nice tool but any GOOD dhal will stay on the ground as much as possible no need to jump really.

lately i’ve been trying to counter poke my way in w/ dudleys crMp. which ive actually been finding works pretty well. it has some really great priority against all other pokes and range is deceptively far. it extends a little past his glove. also its an easy hit confirm if your reactions are fast enough.

but basically i wait for a hit confirm off of crMp, an anti-air w/ sMk/crHp, or a reversal w/ dpMp. once i get the hit i rush usually where i can get an opening.

I can only agree. Absolutely love crMP.
I even connect it after a lot of trades, e.g. with fHK or just crMP. CrLP-crMP-crMP is so simple and good. Into MGB Tag cancel etc and you have your 400+ Damage easily

Launcher combos have different properties when switch canceled after a hit. For example you normal can’t j.hk after a raw launcher. Anyone have any idea on some optimal damage?

Also I have my game plan with dudley(confirm hit through footsies, then use anchor to wall carry so I can put dudley back in for extreme corner pressure nonsense) but I having a hard time dominating in his footsies game, primarily because I don’t know his Pokes. What are his buttons suited for footsies?

Max damage after a raw launcher or a normal combo ending in launcher is
S. hk cancel into lk duck. Then c. Mp, c. Mp, mp DP

I mean i get that, it happens to be one of my post launch bnbs, but does dudley benefit a switch cancelled launcher that connected?

I played around with that too. I usually do crHK-MP Upper after a jHK. And if you switch cancel a connected launcher you can use this combo. However, it doesn’t really give you that much more and is not worth the meter. Looks flashy though :wink:

Are you guys using duck often? I find myself utilizing it much less than in AE. Are you having success with it?
How do you find this for footsies: fMK-stMP-crMP-LK Duck-cr.LP-crMP-MP?
Quite a few frametraps/CH possibilities in it. Is the Duck alright in there?

Seems sound as long as the opponent isn’t looking for it. I have been going for target combo 1 for his main pokes. This is my first time picking up this character so I don’t understand dudley’s game plan on a critical level.

love th guy, being able to do just under 500 for lne meter in corner is amazing. f.hp no longer amazing on counterhit like in AE makes me sad though.

having trouble with sim and guy online. mostly with cannon punch happy sims and jump elbow (which crosses up now!?!) with guy.

only thing i know for the sim matchup is that st.hk ruins his teleport crap

i thought it was just me. but i absolutely hate Sim and Guy. i hate Guy universally in this game because it seems impossible to anti-air his bullshit rush down. i usually lose or whiff. and sim players ive found utilizing dudleys counter helps. gets them on their toes so their afraid to just throw out random pokes. also use his Thunderbolt to cross up. tag out if they block it.

Can you connect to Rolling Thunder after a juggle tag from your partner? Every time I try, the super animation never finishes unless I hit it in the corner.

nah its really a waste of meter. the amount of dmg you get out of his super for 2 meters is laughable compared to the dmg you could get for a switch cancel w/ just one meter

@quantumgravity and i had a match today, he won this time -_____- but he a very nice no meter combo w/ dudley. probably the most dmg you can get w/ dudley.

f-Hk sHk LpDp crMp ducking upper. think ima steal that one. minimal hits. lots of dmg easy inputs.

It’s the best you can do mid screen, I think. Just make sure you practice the link from f+HK to HK, since missing it means you eat a huge punish. If you’re in the corner, you want to go with f+HK, HK xx LP Jet, c.HK, HK xx LK SSB, MP Jet (or HP if you’re tagging out.) 420+ meter less.

and just so you know, connecting the HP afterwards with Heihachi if you tag cancel the Duck Upper takes practice.

I just fooled around a bit with Ex Counter. If my opponent is in the corner and I tag Gief on the second hit, I can tag on Mp-Mp-Mp-Lariat for crispy 470 Damage. Good to know, just adds to his corner pressure and mixup.

Also, I struggle with my consistency on hitting Hk-SSB-Jet in the corner after Tag or EX MGB. Just get fHk or crHk too often (my bloody old fingers :wink: ). Off of raw launcher the above combo does 384.
I started using simply sHK-sHK-crMP-MP Jet. Does 388 off of raw launcher.

Still looking for ways to be more in my opponents face. What do you think about fMK-crMp-fMK-crMP etc in terms of pressure/frametrapping?
