I’d like to add a +1 on “Criminal minds - re-baptized”
song’s sick.
fuck your dnb
I cant even comprehend music like that, but diff’rent strokes and all that. Dont mind some of the early gabba like the nasenbluten stuff (cocksucker is still genius)
but in general it just strikes me as being a parody of itself. Seems its produced with the pure intention of offending parents, and allowing fans to cuss other clubbers for liking ‘soft’ music.
Hope those downloading enjoy the mix. As I said its important to remember that its not drum n bass (and not trying to be. Just the way things were before it split off into all the different subgenres.

The archive on www.hardcorewillneverdie.com is well worth checking out, especially for pre-94 sets if you like your older bits.
Excellent forum there too.

again this is old 93 i’ll dig up a tracklisting for anybody interested, it’s only 20 mb about 30 minutes long, one of my fave sets, there’s not really what i’d consider any killer tunes in there but it’s still the bollocks
Drum and bass and jungle are sort of the same but not
Easy way to do this
Tech itch, pendulem, photek = drum and bass
benny page, tester, murder bot = jungle
you dont get much jungle these days, for every 100 drum and bass tracks we get here in the uk you might get about 20 pure jungle tracks IF THAT
Personally i dont reccomend any of the above artists BUT as you are new to the genre they are the most accesible ones, basically see for yourself which genre is for you
shit i should have just done this from the start
this is JUNGLE!!!
this is drum and bass!!
the line divideing them is fine, but they’re still different enough not to be called the same thing
man you guys really should be looking for the dvd concentric beats and learn for yourselves what drum n bass truly is. I come in here thinking well, some people post ok stuff but man, I feel like it’s outdated. keep up btw, the dvd I mentioned will make you appreciate & understand the essence that is dnb
Chozen- care to elaborate what you mean and who its aimed at? Doesnt really make much sense to me. Actually just seen it on imdb. How can you moan about this thread being outdated when the dvd is from 2001? lol
to be honest I dont think you can understand what dnb is purely from the US scene. From what I have heard and read you guys are from a more metal background, and that is reflected in the music. The beauty of the uk scene is that it has come from such varied ingredients and influences. With tunes like Slipmatt’s breaking free, you can hear how it influenced a generation, but would the US crowd have understood the b side and played it at events?
Leon- can you post the tracklisting on that mix? Is it an event mix or one you have done out of interest?
i to do not understand that post at all, music is timeless whever it was released yesterday or 50 years ago.
As for the essence, A couple of us have been listening since day 1 we’ve seen it from the start as hardcore into jungle then seperate into numerous other sub genres darkstep tech step jump up whatever, i dont see how watching a dvd will make you understand the essence of dnb, at the end of the day it’s music there’s nothing to understand you either like it or you dont.
It’s from a event ratty at universe 93
I think there might be a couple of errors i took it from a site which i’ve linked before, but i’ll link it again because it’s so good http://www.jungletekno.co.uk/mixes.php
Ah jungle tekno, I thought Aztek had shut that a few years ago. That is a monster tracklisting. Love until the night is morning. Demolition Crew opened up with Return to Atlantis then dropped that at Moondance one NYE. Awesome darkcore set.
I can sort of understand his point about tunes ageing. I think thats mainly due to production standards tho. For example tunes like Choc the Beat and Promised Land can still be played in modernish house sets. Ive heard Ellis Dee drop obscure Basement tunes in a breaks set as well, but stuff like the Soap Bars, Murderstyle EP (love the tunes on it, but shocking pressing) etc arent as accessible for a younger audience.
Whilst people (including me) will argue that things like the wobbly beats on Lock Up are half of the charm, for someone who has only been exposed to polished (but arguably soulless) electro house/v style jump up, the tunes are difficult to understand and get into.

- king of choppage
- EARLY peshay and his best imo

Basically this is for all those either to lazy to find or just dont have access to
EARLY "dnb"
notice the amount of variation in the tunes and this is just a couple of tunes
Yeah twisted mentasm is a good example. Amazing tune, properly fucking nasty, but the production/pressing is pretty poor meaning that it doesnt really stand up with other tunes from the era to a modern listener.
Kemistry over Terminator? Sacriledge. Again Terminator would end up as about 5 different tunes if it was produced in todays climate. All about dark rider/believe tho. Beautiful contrast of chipmunks and sarkside.
Oh shit, I love this tune man. The beats are ridiculously tough.
