speaking of Hospital records im in love with this song by Nu:Tone
Strange Encounter feat.Natalie Williams - Nu:Tone
i was looking for this thread. If anyone has LTJās Breezeblock Mix, could anyone identify the tune that starts at around 35:00
http://liquiddnb.com/liquid-drum-n-bass-mix-sets.php
you can find it here, plus a bunch of other mix sets
can anyone tell me if this beat is considered drum and baseā¦its rhiannaās dont stop the music

if thats drum and baseā¦imma be sucked into this genre hard. i was told years ago iād really like itā¦that it was sorta similar to breakbeats but notā¦faster bpms.
Someone please suggest some melodic, jazzy, ambient jungle for me if you would be so kind.
does death from above 1979 count as drum and bass? if so iād like to know if there are any similar duos/bands since dfa broke up =\
I myself, could consider that more of a subtle, or light take on Jungle rather than Drumb nā Bass.
Hmmm, Iām gona recomend two albums to you but they arnāt exactly what you want by strict definition, but if youāre interested give them a couple of listens. Theyāre both really classy, tip top stuff. Classified as deep house but both are very melodic, ambient and jazzy at times.
Try:
Ian Pooley - Since Then
Gene Farris - Booked 2
On Booked 2, skip to track 10 for ultra Jazzy, that track is awesome. But yeah, I love the rest of the album as well.
any good mixes you recommend to me?
can u recommend me some jungle artists?
While DFA1979 isnāt classified as d&b, it weans on the style of electro.
With that saidā¦
DFA1979 ā> MSTRKRFT (bassist of DFA1979ās lovechild)

No, thatās not even close to drum & bass. Do you know what a breakbeat is?
That doesnāt sound anything like one.
Check out this video on the amen break: http://youtube.com/watch?v=5SaFTm2bcac
i do know what a breakbeat is.
someone said its like jungle.
You wanted to know if it was drum & bass, and it isnāt.
The reason I posted that link is because a lot of drum & bass (not all of it) is based off of breakbeats (or in particular, the āamenā break).
Jungle is just the original term for drum & bass. Some say itās the same thing, others donātābut that song isnāt ājungleā, either. Iām just gonna say itās pop, 'cause it doesnāt sound like anything else Iāve heard.
is jungle and dnb two different genreās? if so who do u recommend to someone new to the genre if notā¦wanna still recommend music?
Itās debatable, really. I personally think of them as being interchangeable, but others argue that they have two distinct sounds. Itās similar to the Hip Hop vs. rap debate, but I wonāt get into that here.
Also, yeahā¦Iāll edit this post with some artists in a bit.
LTJ Bukem
High Contrast
Big Bud
Aquasky
Blu Mar Ten
Logistics
Cyantific
Nookie
Voyager
Artemis
Doc Scott
I know Iām missing a lot of good artists on here, maybe Senjutsu Sensei can contribute. Also, they sound nothing like the Rhianna song you linked to, so Iām not even sure if you would listen to that kind of stuffā¦but if youāre open minded, check them out.
Donāt forget Jimpster even though heās not exclusively DnB.
Goldie
Shy FX
Dillinja
Influx Datum
Pendulum
Adam F
Bad Company
AK1200
Amon Tobin
Aphrodite
Squarepusher
Roni Size (har har har)
Omni Trio
Kosheen
Makoto
Lemon D
Klute
Danny Byrd
Concord Dawn
Nobukazu Takemura
Those are some artists for you to check out. Not all of them are exclusively DnB or Jungle, and not all of them are really something Iād listen to, but I figured maybe others can like artists that I donāt really enjoy. So yeah if you do happen to end up liking any of them, awesome. Freakin Milk Stone typed out most of my favorites already ha ha.
Iām not really one to get down with terminology wars, but I guess the only thing Iāve heard consistently between people who say Jungle is not Drum n Bass is that Jungle is more rooted in the early influences of the genre. Ragga jungle type stuff as some would call it, Iāve heard others say thatās just ājungleā. Soooo I dunno, as long as a song uses a break and sounds dope, Iāll recommend it ha ha.
Sensei
P.S. Eventually, MilkStone and myself will be added to that list. :wgrin:
I agree with jungle being more rooted to the early influences of the genre, but a lot of those influences are still in drum & bass, so itās hard to say.
But good list, forgot about some of those, I really need to get up on more Klute/Concord Dawn/Pendulum.

This is all stuff from 91-92ish. Really easy to see how the sound progressed into jungle and subsequently drum and bass. Tunes like bombscare (which sample an old garage tune) have that simple breaks, synth and bass which became the staple in dnb around 98 when everything went techy (andthe girls disappeared lol). Tunes like Ruffneck business, future sound and funky junky, show the ragga and dub aspect, whilst nebula 2 demonstates sheer noise (in a good way)
