The DnB (Drum and bass) Thread

does this count as DnB? anyway whats the name of these tracks? I really want the song @5min mark.

that sounds more like gabba or a form of hardstyle.

Simple way to tell is by tempo. DnB is from 150 (for the older stuff) beats per minute (bpm) to 180ish. It also has a breakbeat or two step as its beat, this stuff is whats called a four-four beat. Simply counts the kicks in a bar to work that one out.

anybody got any tracks from Redeyes? Leaving this Planet and Backwards own my soul for the moment.

Am I the only one who thinks DnB is fallin off? I really havn’t heard any thing in the past year or two that made me go “danm that’s fresh.” It seems like the whole scene is getting a little boring.

hit me up on aim… KevinSorbo5000

Yeah its stuck in the technological rut that a lot of stuff is… any dude with a cracked copy of some programs can make a track and put it out on the web. There is nooo quality control.

I thought the DJ Fresh album from last year was a pretty good/great album musically and had solid concepts and design throughout. But its like the only one ive heard recently like that. Everything else is a single collection padded with bad b-sides or is just completely horrible front to back.

The scene is also really divided in a way similar to metal I guess. Pretty much keeps things a scene when no one likes the varying styles in the genre(Cant blame everyone though, I enjoy like 1% of the dark/hard tracks that are all the rage now)

Oh wow, a drum n bass thread on SRK, never noticed it before. I’ve been into the drum n bass scene for awhile now, the NY scene is pretty crazy though. If you look real hard the cartoon dude in my avatar has the junglist movement shirt on lol.

Anyway I’m into the more mellow liquid stuff, fave DJ/Producers no particular order.

Atlantic Connection

Don’t think this one has been posted yet, if it has sorry. It’s a good one though.

The thing with dnb is that it isnt falling off, if anything its healthier than ever in a lot of ways, the main change is in you.

I dont think dnb has been that amazing since 2001ish- Bodyrock, shake your body, champion sound HWND rmx were the last superb jump up tunes for me. But a lot of others say that it went downhill after 95, 98, 2003 or 2005 or 2007. Alot depends on how long you have been into the music. Due to the throwaway nature of alot of tracks, its hard to stay really into it for a sustained amount of time really.

this was when i got to see pendulum live earlier this year in LA

shit was awesome.

I just came back from LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad in Chicago. The man is a robot I tell you.

THEY COME TO CHICAGO???

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

DnB isn’t “falling off” at all, its getting better…just gotta look around. There’s always lots of crappy tracks in all genres and technology definitely makes it more so today than ever…just gotta dig through the shit.

So many wicked tracks out all the freaking time.

I wouldn’t say the quality of music is falling. I’d say there’s an oversaturation of music though, and it’s happening to all genres. Back then you had to buy CDs to listen to music, or you have to wait for the radio to play your song. Now that people get music through other means, it’s just not as special, and internet radio allows you to hear the more unique and obscure tunes too. Oversaturation has it’s pros and cons, I mean I wouldn’t have heard about X artist if it wasn’t for some Y net DJ who plays those obscure tunes. The cons are, you keep hearing and hearing the sick reece basslines, and sick drum programming that you’ll get tired of it, just like you’ll get tired of your favorite food now and then.

And it’s not like you can pick up a sequencer and some samples and start making music over night. Like versus said, you have to keep digging and digging for good songs.

Good point man. I remember back in 2001-2002 being at parties I thought were banging, only to talk to a bunch of O.G junglists talk about how the scene was dying.

Any one have ant stories from WEMF btw? I’ve been a few times, craziest parties I’ve ever been to.

HAHA you speak to any old hardcore junglist and they’ll tell you that it’s been dead since 94.

i dont agree with that, but i will say alot of new stuff leaves alot to desired, probably since 95/96, but at the end of the day you can only like what you’ve listened to,what you know, if you have listened to hardcore/drum and bass for as long as me over 14 years now you’d probably be of the same opinion
Back on page 1 there’s a couple of really good links to some great old skool stuff especially the sets alot of them with tracklistings

judge for yourself

wow, someone negged the hell out of me in this thread for some reason. Dunno what that was all about.

any uk crew been to the new metalheadz or AWOL nights? Been told the music is superb so may try and head down.

any new good tracks anyone?

^ Listen to Relics. Plaid Remix

A live Mix of Plaid’s remix of Ebz - Malawi Gold. Sadly, there’s no mp3’s of this version. Plaid isn’t known for making Jungle, but their few attempts at doing so are honestly my favorite in the genre. When they played this song live in Chicago, people were going nuts.

Edit:

Squarepusher is OK, I was big on this stuff back in the late 90s-early 2000’s, but there’s still a few songs I really like, this being one:

-Ziq’s older stuff from the 90’s is sweet. Not too keen on the newer direction. Interesting to see him using a full setup here. I remember my brother telling me when he opened for BJORK years back he basically had everything pre-recorded, then just went out front and danced.
