The Current State of the World thread

So far some things that concern me:

 1. Obama messing with China and crying for them to “play by the rules” when he hasn’t been following the rules himself and has been a disaster to the US economy.
 2. Congress wants to censor the internet. This we don’t really have to worry about because unlike most of us who use internet for random forums/games/e-mail/news/anime/etc, there are people who depend on it to make serious money and they already have a new version of w32.duqu as retaliation. Also what’s up with that law to make you pay a fine if you can’t afford health insurance. So yea, Americans are broke and can’t afford health insurance so your solution is to fine them. Our government is beating Homer Simpson at stupidity.
 3. The OWS protests are turning more violent and the government isn’t taking appropriate action.

So we’re looking at global war, virtual war, and revolution in the US. Sigh. Is there any place left in this world where you can just live in peace. SMH at people and this planet. :shake:

This thread is fucking dumb.

Carry on.

^

TS isn’t as nice as I am. I wouldn’t say dumb, certainly “messy” though.

 1. I’m pretty sure the problems are orchestrated by the government as a whole.
 2. I know it sucks balls. I guess we can only have freedom if it doesn’t interfere with their agendas.
 3. I hope you mean to protect the rights of the protestors.

The world’s not over yet. And yeah there’s nice places in the world. Costa Rica is doing good, France, and Canada too I think. I’m talking about better society and standard of living, not economic wise.

I’m sorry, an acceptable answer would have been…

-This situation is fucking dumb.

Or…

-The mainstream media if fucking dumb.

gonna throw out somethin that might sound dumb as hell, but here goes…

how about implementing salary caps, like in sports. i mean for personal salaries and bonuses though. pretty sure its a bad idea if it were for businesses. like seriously, who needs to make 1 billion per year, let alone 10 mil? cap it out at like 1 mil per year, including bonuses

but the greedy ones will find them loopholes

Why are so many people focused on making rich people poorer, and so few pondering ways which poor people might become rich?

What purpose would this serve?

inb4 Libertarians defend the 1%'s right to make ridiculous amounts of money.

Honestly though, I don’t think that’s a good idea. It’s probably unconstitutional, and there’s so many rich people who would oppose it. I think a better idea would be to get them to pay their taxes, like Clinton was trying to do during his presidency. And together with that we should get the money out of politics by overturning the Citizens United v. FEC ruling which gives corporations the same rights as citizens. It allows them to lobby (legally bribe) politicians in huge amounts.

Here’s an informative easy to understand vid about stuff like this.

Wait you kinda confused me with the first statement, I don’t believe deregulation is a good thing, and Regan was the single biggest blemish to the institution that is the American Presidency.

BTW, we never escaped feudalism, we just urbanized it and became the serfs for the new class which started taking power around the 1400’s.

We could, and I always try to buy American or local. I shed man tears when I saw Craftsman was now made in China.

who says Im already not doing all that.

which is what I want to be implemented. Like I said, you shouldn’t be able to change the rules of your social contract just because you have stuff that holds an abstract value.

But this isn’t a revolution in any shape or form yet. Its just protesting for change. and you know that is true.

And your first statement is a fallacy.

You can’t just say, your in or out. That sort of mentality leads to mindless killing. Us against them.

I can be a proponent of change, but not for change that I don’t agree with. I don’t like the system as much as the next guy, but im not naive enough to think that a new system or government created by the people would be any better than the one we have know. the idea of change can never be summed up, you in or out. There are to many variables to consider, especially the lively hood of other people.

Call me over cautious or cynical.

Agreed. And guess who Reagan’s economic adviser was? Milton Friedman. Mr. Trickle-Down/Free Market himself.

And as we can now tell, trickle down hasn’t worked. And privatizing everything so that the private owners can make a buck won’t work for the little guys. Just look at the health care industry. Our health care industry sucks balls. The insurance company’s goal is to make profits, and to do this they will use any exception they can find to deny people coverage. They control the price of medicine which makes some people who need it unable to afford it. Just know that our healthcare as a nation is way behind compared to other countries.

Check out the documentary “The One Percent”. It amazes how disconnected some people are from society as a whole. And check out “Sicko” if you haven’t seen it.

So let’s finally escape it.

Awesome.

So how do we get them to implement it? We could try and go through Congress, except that they’re completely impotent. Or we can organize and let our government know, and the rest of America know that we’re tired of this busted-ass system. We’re tired of political corruption, tax evasion, constant war and exploitation, etc. etc.

It is not a violent revolution or a coup. But I would say that it is a revolution. It is multi-faceted. There are protestors who are the most prevalent, but what you don’t see is people organizing, discussing, learning, planning in the background. We are working in every direction. We are demonstrating publicly by civil disobedience. We are educating ourselves with workshops, presentations, and discussions. We are trying to inform other people about major issues; global, national, state, and local. There are petitions and political actions.

What is a revolution? A lot of young people are opening their eyes and seeing that there’s more to life than they had been taught. And they are seeing the problems of the world, and then they see people who are fighting to make things better. People who even though they are laughed at, ignored, discouraged, opposed, written off they still continue to hold on to their beliefs.

That’s what I saw. And it really has changed my life. I feel like I have developed morally and become more responsible as a human being. Before I had no interest in any of this stuff, I just thought the world is fucked up and it would always be that way. Nothing I can do.

So yeah, I think it has a lot of characteristics of a revolution. And it is definitely a revolution of the hearts and minds of many people.

I agree with you that it shouldn’t be that way “In or out”. But the more I have learned, the more I have seen that it is that way.

To quote Howard Zinn:

“I don’t believe in neutrality. I believe neutrality is impossible, because the world is already moving in certain directions. Wars are going on. Children are starving. And to be neutral, to pretend to neutrality, to not take a stand in a situation like that is to collaborate with whatever is going on, to allow it to happen…”

There isn’t a neutral. If you are neutral in reality it is benefiting the power structure, so in a way it is non-neutral position.

As for not agreeing with it. Why not be a part of it, and throw your input into it, or be a part of it until your goals are achieved? Or maybe be a part of actions that you believe in.

Any small amount of change is better than none to me. I’d be happy with reforms. But I won’t stop fighting there.

Dude, if you followed that train of thought, you wouldn’t even be online right now. Look at your mouse. Look at your keyboard. Look at your modem/router. Flip them bitches over and tell me who made them. Hell, who made damn near every piece of tech in anybody’s house? China. Deal with it: they manufacture nearly everything we use that isn’t a vehicle or food. Can’t escape it, unless you’re living in some hippie commune and gaming on a 50 year old tv with an atari 5200.

MY computer is made in Korea, my mouse is made in China, my Galaxy Tab is made in Korea, my samsung player made in Korea, my TV is Japan, the radio in my car is Japanese, my shoes are never Chinese, my clothes are not from China.

I specifically buy my things to avoid buying Chinese when possible. When I buy car parts, I never ever ever fucking buy Chinese. If I need new clamps, American or bust, brakes American, electronic components Japanesse or American.

My knifes are American or German
The vacuum cleaner in the house is German.

I know I can’t escape it, but I do my best not to buy Chinese.

I would never buy a new GM, Dodge, Ford vehicle because a lot of the parts are now made in China and the steel is from India.

Which is why I said, me you and everybody is part of the problem.

I fucking hate Chinese and Indian products because they are the poster child’s of outsourcing and making a quick buck.

I like this cartoon.

Conveniently doesn’t mention non-profit orgs.

I prefer Wolf-PAC’s idea more since it includes ALL entities.

Also here’s a site that tracks down campaign donations and lobbying money. Im about to look around on this one.

Brilliant, but it will die a flaming death

Thank you.

On that UC Davis video one of the women has on a North Face fleece. Wtf is the point of protesting if you’re just going to be a slave to the corporations anyway,

Obviously it’s impossible for most of us to completely avoid outsourcing but every little bit helps.

Where is the money?
