The Comprehensive Firebrand Thread: Lab Notes for Beginners (almost done)

We need a comprehensive tutorial on my little nigga. Good shit to MysticBranded for hooking us up with a basic Firebrand tutorial, but we need to break shit down WAAAAAAAAAAY further. You need like 30 minutes to go over the shit that this character can do.

I did that with my Nemesis guide. You can see how that turned out here.

I’d need help though if I were to do it. Someone had to help record for me. PLus, I love Firebrand but I’m nowhere near as versed in him as Nemesis.

My guide is basically for peeps who just wanna run the character casually for fun. We definitely need someone to do an in depth tutorial about him.

Has anybody tested if you can combo off the unblockable if you trade with your opponent with it? I messing with repulsor blast assist for my unblockables and there is a gap where my opponent can put out a button. Thing is that some characters don’t have good enough buttons to beat it and they also have to time it pretty well instead of just mashing it. So i was wondering if anybody has tried comboing off the trade since it does a stagger.

Its really hard to control XF2 Luminous body Firebrand in Vale of Mist.

When you recover just do a regular lmh combo assume you don’t get any kind of knockdown

Has anybody noticed that Bon Voyage just trades with some moves and doesn’t catch the opponent?

It seems to have the same priority as Phantom Dance, Maximum Spider, and Maximum Vergil. Which is awesome.

so what’s the command for FB’s instant overhead?

and when you hit with the unblockable, FB goes into flight. do I just unfly right after a do the regular bnb?

FB’s instant overhead is just his j.L, He can combo off of it with assists or when in Luminous Body or XF, you can do j.L, QCF+S and it connects. It’s tight though

After the unblockable, you can dive kick, end flight, or do QCB+L

oh ok I see. what’s you guys approach with firebrand at the start of the match? depends on the matchup?

You forgot luminous body and bon voyage after an unblockable

Can you make cr. H safe with a Demon Missile L or Hellfire H?

demon Missile L yes. hellfire H is too slow… but demon missile L should only be used under the pressure of an assist because fast beams and hypers will snipe you if they don’t push block… it would be safer to cancel into hell’s elevator, luminous body, and maybe fireball… im pretty sure its safe on blok like other fireballs… just not the H one

L Fireball is -1 on block. Use that.

Hell Elevator is only safe if used in H version.
More often than not I’m grabbed when trying L or M versions.

H Hell Elevator is the safest bet… L and M versions are just OK, if they jump and grab you, you’ll be sorry for trying those.
L Fireball is best for keeping pressure
M Demon Missile into Luminous body is great for shenanigans

That’s not true. Hells’s Elevator can be caught by a beam Hyper or something. L Fireball is the actual best bet. Especially since if they advancing guard you out, Spitfire will still protect you pretty well, whereas Hells elevator CAN be punished, though not by much.

Does Firebrand build meter well? I used to main Wolverine/Sentinel/Doom and derped out Wolverine’s BnB and TACed Sentinel out and did the Rocket Punch to Plasma Storm thing. I may return to a more conservative version of this with Firebrand/Sentinel/Wesker and go for lolblockables with gunshot. But this tactic runs on meter largely.

When you use Hell’s elevator, you should already anticipate what your opponent may do… you can attempt a grab, unfly, whiff a normal into Kidnap… ideally you should be calling an assist, so you can continue to mixup, the only time you would want to get away is by using Hell’s elevator H… the second best thing to do is cancel into luminous body after Hell’s elevator L and M.

L fireball can be advanced guarded too easily, its best to use Demon Missile (any version) cancelled into luminous body for IOH, and empty cancels into lows into IOHs.

the only beams that should be able to punish Firebrand is Chaotic Flame and Akuma beam (maybe magnetic shockwave, but i think you have time to unfly). But you should never be trying to get away from them anyway, pressuring them is the key…

firebrand is terrible at building meter, if you’re not doing unblockables…

Hell’s Elevator L and M and H are all amazing as long as you’re not too predictable.
I run drones so usually I can use all 3 without fear of punishment. Cr.H is an amazing bait move if canceled into one of the three command jumps. Opponents who are mashing H are opened up and you’re free to counter.
