The Complete Genei Jin Thread

Are there any tutorials or documentation on the keeperjin genei jin combo?

as i understand it, it’s basically xx c.MK, st.MP (whiff/movement), st.FP. I’m not entirely sure that’s accurate, or if I’m just messing up the timing. The hitstun seems to carry them too far back.

123 -> cr-mp x cr.mk -> kara hp -> cr.mk -> kara hp ETC

It’s not easy to learn… Just practice…

I’ve noticed lately from some Yun players that when they need a quick ender and don’t have the time or position for a better one, they just do st. fierce, shoulder, shoulder, f+fierce, kara dash punch. What are the strengths of those two shoulders? Is it fierce, strong or strong, strong?

its not that hard to learn either , i did it in like a day. getting it completely consistent so that you never drop a rep though is what is hard. and if they are getting pushed too far back you aren’t doing the forward fast enough.
the trick of it is keeping the speed enough to make it combo but still keeping space between the mp and fp to make it kara correctly.
just practice doing one rep first of mk -> kara fierce. if you can do even one rep you can do it, all you have to do after that is build the reps and keep your timing consistent.

my question is what are the best ways to freestyle into it on a blocking opponent, i don’t really play much yun i just learned keeper jin cuz its too fancy not to so i wanna know if anyone has good suggestions for that freestyle rap competition we call KEEPER JIN

Okay, so sometimes I fuck up my GJ, and when that happens (opponent in corner btw) i sometimes o a roundhouse divekick crossup to mess with my opponents head.

My question is, on what characters can you do a roundhouse divekick crossup followed by cr.short and st.forward that launches the opponent?

It worked on Urien this afternoon so that’s one down. Is there a chart for this? I reckon it’s great payoff after a messup.

@Kang Do

Against shotos (the only people I have practice against -__-) both work. Difference is that you need to input the first shoulder later if its medium shoulder -> medium shoulder. If you use fierce, you can input it almost right after the far fierce, so if you’re really tight on meter time, go with the fierce.

edit: Does anyone have any tips for landing midscreen toward fierce into dash punch? Does there have to be a certain screen position/character specific, or is the timing just strict?

Should work on all characters if you hit them while they are standing.

You should really start using high/low block strings, either into command throw or if they take a hit forward hp.
Crossup dive kicks will only work up untill a certain skill level. and you dont really want to be in the air anyway.

p.s. Omg cyrox the famous swedish yun! hey!

ok, might sound like a silly question, but I just started playing Yun, and when I do target combo, jab shoulder XX GJ, I wait for the activation animation to end and then I connect stand close strong- then I immediately press towards and fierce and it NEVER combos…

I can play Marvel, ST etc and can pull off all sorts of long combos and infinities, yet I can’t get this strong, f+fierce combo to work?? I’m playing it on DC if that makes a difference…

That should only happen when you’re too close to the opponent…
I have a dc myself and it works, So That shouldn’t be a problem.

what you can do is hold forward after you activate and then do mp, hp it should be able to connect…the only reason it wouldnt connect is either your messing up the timing of the f-hp or your too slow on the mp

P.S- for those asking for a tutorial on the keeper jin

Hey, is keeperjin character specific in any way? I’ve been doing it really easy on Chun-Li, but I can’t really seem to do it on Q or Hugo.

i think the starter for it isnt the same for everyone…but combo itself is possibly on everyone (i THINK)

I see.

While were on this, I’m sure you’ve seen the video where Maeda starts off a Keeperjin on Pyrolee but then goes ape shit and starts doing a bunch of kara-fierces. I’ve mastered the timing for karaing MP into FP, but how come after 2 or 3 punches I lose the connection? Unless it’s more than simply MP~FP.

that i wouldnt be sure about cuz i never rly tested the Kara Hp connection…but i think what MIGHT help is holding forward during the MP and then HP…either that or your just missing the kara’s by doing them too fast or too late

Alright, I finally mastered the keeperjin itself, but now there is the different starters. I’ve been practicing on chun li, and as you may or may not know, she has the smallest crouching position, so you can just start it without st.FP or cr.MP, you can just do 123 Shoulder xx cr.MK st.MP~st.FP. But on Urien, if I start it with the cr.MK, either my kara mp’s are hitting him, which messes it up, or Yun loses his distance. What I want to know is, does the 123 Shoulder xx st.FP starter work on EVERYONE, or are there some characters that need to start with cr.MP instead?

well i know you need to do cr.mp on shotos. I think chun li and makoto (possibly a few others) are the only ones you can just start with hp or cr.mk. Also if you start with a cr.mp im pretty sure you can keeper jin chun li standing.

anybodys familiar with the timing to parry the mp in 123?

Start moving the stick forward once you see the short, so it will parry by the time the MP comes out

You have to tap forward in between fierces.
