I think it makes a difference on chun and oro, something about the hit boxes and the way hits connect in certain links, ex. short short super, but for chun SA3 gives you all that meter.
You could probably use SAI against Sean too since it’s well, Sean. Though to be fair it probably wouldn’t matter what super you picked against him. Myself personally I only use SAI against Akuma and Urien.
SA1 vs everyone!
I’m pretty much SA3 exclusive as well as it’s just too versatile and Dudley doesn’t really have any trouble building meter. However if I ever were to consider switching to SA1 in a match up it would be Chun. It can be incredibly difficult to land a hit on her, so SA1 makes it really count when you do. The only thing I don’t really like when using SA1 in this match up is trying to combo into it off of a sweep. Cancelling a duck straight x Rocket correctly from a sweep takes some weird positioning/timing that’s too inconsistent for my taste.
Don’t really know what you’re talking about for the hit box thing. All of his hit confirms hit normally on them (and anyone at that). But as far as Oro is concerned, I would never use SA1 in that match up. Any competent Oro you will run into will use SA2 against you and Corkscrew can help you get out of some corner SA2 situations. It’s also nice to have the cross-up duck under Corkscrew anti air since Oros love mixing up their [double] jump-ins.
VS Gouki just need SA1

By the way
- do you manage to do LP.MGB x4 on shotos ? i can sometimes do 2/3 on Urien or Ken but i can’t do x4 like Fujiwara
- have tips or shortcut to s/c.MP > MK/LK.Duck > SA1/3 ?
If you want to hit more than 3 MGBs on shotos, you need to start from a meaty sweep.
Only tip I can give for cr.mp x duck xx super specifically is to buffer the cr.mp in with the duck:
:db::d:+:mp::df::f:+:mk:
no shortcuts
no Options Selects.
no crouch techs
and c.lk, sa3 is the BnB of choice
Dudley v Hugo…
Yes I know I am suppose to win it and dominate but how exactly do I go about doing that?
Also Dudley v Alex would help too! Thanks!
Alex is unbeatable.
Nah. Alex should be in Dud’s favor as well. Unfortunately I don’t think I have much in the way of tips, but as an Alex player, I have noticed the tendency to ignore Alex’s low options (such as c.lk) which are true low attacks. This makes Alex easier to defend against. I will hopefully add more if I can think of some better advice.
Based on my experiences playing as Hugo, as well as watching vids…
- Counterpoking with HP and HK with Dudley can beat nearly everything Hugo does, including Claps.
- EX Backswing Blow is so great, unless they know how to parry.
- Command dash->Super in reaction to Hugo’s slower pokes will keep him from hitting buttons.
- Command dash->Super under Hugo’s jump-ins will keep him from jumping in on you. (do the commanddash->super motion regularly, Dudley will autocorrect his positioning and hit Hugo)
That’s just off the top of my head, but Dudley owns this matchup so hard… D:
Yeah I know he does but I lost to Henry Cen at ECT3 and I was like >.<
But thanks for the advice, going to work on my reaction!
Henry Cen is a beastly Hugo, so I wouldn’t feel too bad about that. haha
True true, I feel like I gotta be more patient. I pressed the wrong buttons at the wrong time and got hit by too many wake up hammer frenzy’s. Hes good though, I just feel bad because the matchups suppose to be 8-2.
Its Urien, Hugo, Alex, Chun for my 4 least favorite matchups man I need to work on them. xD But oh well I did well at ECT, gonna try to do well if a side tournament happens at EVO.
Sup.
So how do I beat ibuki lolz.
Alright, so I’m not exactly a noob as I’ve been playing 3S for a few years now (online, but it’s the only thing I have here)…but seriously, how do you beat Chun? I hardly ever play any decent Chuns, but when I do, it honestly feels like the bitch is free to do anything she wants. Kara-throw range is ridiculous, so when I see one coming and try to tech? I eat a cr. mk. I also seem to have a hard time mounting any form of offense as her pokes just stuff everything I do and eat me alive.
What exactly is the mindset I should have in this matchup? Are there any lesser known counter-pokes or punishes I should learn? Aside from Ibuki, Chun is the only one that makes me pop a vein whenever I play her.
Edit: Had a chat with a few players about it, but would still like to hear what others have to say.
Yeah, it’s a bit of a grind to be able to close that gap between you and her. If you’re having trouble against her on the ground, jump. Dudley has the option to jump in on her if you don’t feel like putting up with her ground game. Expect her to try some type of anti-air or air-to-air, and counter. If you do manage to get in though, your close-range pokes will be able to put her on edge. Play patient at first, inching your way in, then when you get in, don’t give her room to breathe. If you can hitconfirm your Supers well, you’ll be way scarier to the Chun. It’ll take some risky stuff and some parries, but getting close to her will be worth it.
Yeah I try my best to poke her out.
When she has no meter for super you can really disrespect her because all she can do for a punish is fierce or throw. Try to stay out of her kara grab range while you do some kind of pressure. I like F.MK to try to get in and make her block.
On her wake up a meaty F.HK will stuff her EX Spinning Bird clean. So thats pretty nice.
Aku said it better but idk heres some stuff. xD
Nah, keninblack is right. f.MK owns Chun; safe on block and links into Super if it hits(one of Dudley’s easier links, too). Just don’t get too predictable with it or you’ll eat a parry, haha. f.MK, cr.LK, f.HK, mixing it up with just these three attacks(for starters) right in her face will make Chun fear you. And yeah, overheads own EX SBK.
Aku already pretty much covered how to fight Hugo. You’ll be dancing around your st.fp range just about the entire match. Aku brought up ex ssb and I just wanna mention that if you hit this move while Hugo is in the corner you can juggle with a strong uppercut after. Another piece of advice I’d give is that since Hugo is really tall, you can somewhat abuse jump-ins (i.e. early jump fierce, then mixup your timing etc). Also you can ground cross up Hugo in the corner. Something to add to your book of tricks.
Dudley’s st.rh owns pretty much owns everything Alex can throw out in terms of pokes. It’ll lose to Flash Chop, so Alexs that are familiar with this matchup will probably be trying to throw this out there every now and then if they see you trying to abuse st.rh. Look to whiff punish that with st.mp x duck xx super. Don’t forget you can also reversal Corkscrew his ex elbow. However, I’d advise only doing this if it were for the kill or if you had extra meter to make that knockdown worthwhile since you only get the last couple hits of measly damage. Be alert to anti-air with duck under cross up super like in the Hugo matchup. Can’t really think of much else to say since imo Dudley owns Alex.
Awesome thanks so much! This will be really helpful.
