The Complete Alex Thread

SA2 is the best because of the EX’s, not the super itself. Yang’s SAII pretty much blows also, but it’s still the #1 super for him.

Co-sign. Honestly, I play SA2, but I only occassionally use the super itself. If I can get it in a combo, I’ll do it, but, otherwise, I only really use it during my wake-up and when I land from a reset (since most opponents will try to rush you at this point).

Yeah I hate it when that happens, the twins are so small and it occasionally happens when I do it against chun.

Also, it’s good to know that close forward xx EX Rising Knee is more damaging and does more stun (IIRC) than the other two options. Only thing to worry about is the range, but I’m pretty sure it connects on everyone from most ranges.

Anywho, having said that, I sometimes still use the EX FC against the small characters (by accident), cept a lot of times, people realize too late that you whiffed, and don’t punish you seriously.

Just want to get a few opinions.

If you were to land a j.hp, s.mk, would you cancel into SAII or do an EX FC. There really isn’t that much of a difference in damage, given that doing SAII does do a little bit more damage but at the cost of an entire bar, opting for an EX FC saves about half of your stock.

As of lately the only real time I do SAII is during a punishment situation where I can only land a s.mk. I also opt for a s./c. lp x2 -> SAII. In all other situations like the one I mentioned above or other ones like hp/mp FC, mk, I always do EX FC.

I’d go for the extra damage if that extra damage meant the entire match, or even just a round in itself. Otherwise, I’d probably stick with the EX Flash Chop like you normally do.

To me it would depend on certain things. If they are almost stunned I would do SA2. If I wanted them to get in the corner I do EX FC. The only thing I don’t like about using the EX FC is that it knocks them far where as SA2 leaves them pretty close. In terms of damage I would go ahead and do SA2 even though its like what almost 9 points more than the combo ending with EX FC. You can build up meter with Alex pretty fast too so burn the whole bar.

^lol @ ur signature, Yoga’s winning quote from alpha 2 right?

One thing I didn’t mention about SA2 is that, after you land it, it opens up a pretty good wake-up game in your favor. As your opponent wakes-up, you have all of Alex’s normal wake-up mix-ups, plus you’re in perfect range for MK/HK Air Stampede (HK will cross up at this range).

You could go with ex knee smash inplace of ex flash chop. It does the same damage (iirc) as a flash chop, but ends with the opponent a lot closer to you.

I don’t know if this is the right place to be asking this, but I’ve got a non-character specific versus Alex question;

I’m playing on X-Box Live and had a lot of trouble today with an Alex player who would poke and run until SA3 was charged, then cancel it off of an Eblow Slash. If I blocked, I got a pretty large window to do something in, but half the time the super connects, even if I’m starting a jump. I beat the super out with Shoryuken a few times (whether the Eblow slash hits or not), but my charging characters (Oro, Urien, Remy) seemed helpless.

Does this work offline? What’s the best way to overcome it?

i thought the stungun headbutt trap was already well known. if the elbow slash connects you are fucked. if u block, its a guessing game unless the alex player is retarded and only does the mp version (the one that catch you even when jumping). if he just keeps on doing the mp version you can dash under it. it can get a little more tricky if he mixes up, because the lp version will catch you if you try to dash under or even if you do a counter shoryu too early. Your best bet is to wait a little to see which version is and act accordingly (either dash under it, jump away or hit counter). with oro you can escape with the roundhouse jumping kick attack (i dont know the name), with remy and urien u could charge down during the sa freezing screen and pull out a flash kick or a knee drop.

I believe any character can jab Alex out of it, as he’s coming down. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure I read that in the other Alex threads.

Jabbing out of it was the first thing I tried, but with lag, the timing seemed very tough. In fact, I didn’t land the jab once.

Yeah its sim from A2. I think you’re the only one that knows where my sig came from.
BBQ, I hardly ever use EX Knee. I’ll use it and see if I like it better. Does it do the same stun too?

I believe that the blockstun is longer if your crouch blocking, so try to stand while blocking the elbow dash. With Oro, just throwing out a s.fk once you’re out of blockstun will knock him out of the air.

I do not believe the block stun is longer, look at frame datas, the only mention of crouching is when hit.

Yeah, j.fierce, st.forward, ex flash does a about 50% maybe a little less.

And j.fierce, st.forward, ex knee smash does about 50% as well

just wondering:

i’ve played around with alex quite a bit and hes beggining to grow on me. i can pull off combos and stuff, but i have alot of trouble against slow characters for some reason (hugo and ESPECIALLY Q). i dont have any trouble with them when im dudley. any ideas/suggestions?

lol, those should be easy matches for you. specially Q, he is a tall character, you can fuck his parry timing by jumping a lot from different angles and mixing it with stomps and empty jumps.
