The Complete Alex Thread

I thought he was talking about crouching medium kick into flash chops. As far as the chain goes, I think it only works in the arcade version.

. I’m not talking about the cr.Short, cr.Forward Chain itself but about the link into Boomer Raid afterwards that isn’t possible. Cr.Foward doesn’t combo into anything.

I don’t know about the arcade version… but I haven’t seen a video of an Alex cancelling a Flash Chop off the cr.Short, cr.Forward Chain yet.

I don’t know why there’s ambiguity over this but Alex can’t do anything after his c.MK. Not after the chain, not by itself…it’s not a cancellable move. Only c.LK is cancellable.

The actual c.LK, c.MK chain works in all versions of the game. The timing for the chain is a bit more strict than some other chains in the game but it does work.

Add cl.mk x EX Rising Knee Smash to the yes group…just to be flashy.

One of the really bad things that, IMO, puts Alex low on the tier list is that he really doesn’t have any low game, making his game consist more of throw options and high options. The majority of his low options don’t give him an opportunity for good damage (unlike, say, the shotos, with c.short x2, c.forward, etc).

I’ve tried several things on Alex’s cr.Forward just to confirm that I’m not senile… Alex crouching Forward doesn’t combo into anything.

I’ve also tried his “Fierce Flash Chop, Sleeper Hold, Super Art” combo:

You can’t combo SAI from a Sleeper Hold. Alex is too far away from the opponent.

You can connect with Boomer Raid after the Sleeper Hold but the last hit, the grab, won’t reach. This combo does 49+ damage on Ryu. You can add more damage if you mash the buttons during Sleeper Hold.

SAIII won’t combo after Sleeper Hold.

I think I will rewrite the first bit, since I’ve changed up my game a lot since I wrote that.

in the worst character match-up thread they say that Alex loses to the these characters
- Ken, Makoto, Dudley, Oro but the only bad match-up alex has is ken. when fighting makoto all you need is a knockdown and that bitch is dead.and if you get her cornered she screwed.i find alex versus dudley even. and the necro match up i have no idea how that one goes

IMO shit matchups= Yun, Chun.

Everyone else takes a boot to the mouth.

Akuma gets really annoying as well.

Her command grab is alot better than Power Bomb, her combo-ability is better-she can cancel her dash punch off her cr.Short-and she can do more damage off one single opening than Alex does.

Alex hasn’t got any “real” advantages over the better half of the cast but he can do pretty well against everyone. He’s versatile, though you should have a very good imagination on how each match-up could develop, i.e. know which strategy to use in situation X, Y and Z.

Did those numbers just poof out of your head? Where do people come up with this shit. :arazz:

I have to say I completely disagree with your alex chun and yun match up numbers. If alex can be winning or atleast breaking even with ken, yun, chun then he should be dominating all tournaments and be top tier which we all know hasn’t happened yet.

Well, like you said, I guess my understanding of alex’s matchups are poor so I know nothing about this game.

Not really man, I just look at properties ,range options, and game engine details. I do not care that a certain thing works, I want to know why it works. If someone tells you that something is good to use ask them why. They should be able to tell you without avail exactly when to use it, how fast it is, the recovery if missed, and the special properties that surround it. I have liked Alex since New Generation and I love the Street Fighter III parry system aka:“Blocking System” because like the title says “The is no limit” to what you can do. There is always a counter, it just depends on how bad you want it and how hard you train and do detail research to gain victory.

Your cool man and that is not what I meant.

I know somethings about Street Fighter III that are not known but I have to release it slowly or I will be looked at as a crazy man if not already.

Let people test what I post and see it for there own eyes.
And if they do not see it maybe it was not there for them to see.

You’re essentially playing theory fighter here. Naming all those counters won’t mean much if they won’t use them. Or better yet, they slightly miss time each and everyone of those moves just to throw you off. Theory fighter tends to have an opposite outcome when applied to real play.

the whole key to this match-up is to not let yun spam dive kicks or to let him corner you cause once he does your screwed

Saisyu I have ADD and Dyslexia so it’s hard to get what I need out of your post. Can you show me a vid of you showing how you do what your talking about vs these characters?

I disagree with you Saisyu.
Yun’s command throw is alot better than Alex’s. It has by far less start-up and in matches there are more occasions to use it. The only time Alex ever uses his is after a ticked Short, though most players anticipate the throw (Jab version 7 frames of start-up!!) and evade.
But at least Alex has one.

I want video’s against people. Until I see em it’s blarney.

chun doesn’t have to tech throws. she can standing cl. RH xx SA2 and its an easy hit confirm if she has meter. and even without meter she can superjump out of there by using it.

i like your theories but i’m wondering if you have an answer for standing strong and unthrowable far RH.
chun’s low forward is a fast and easy hit confirm but its not the poke that crushes alex because its hard to get safely within range on an especially good alex.
your back fierce punishing trick is kinda neat too but honestly i think it would be crazy to attempt that on a metered Chun because if you fuck up even slightly its your ass, too high of risk for the reward.

also you are going to need a way to keep chun from running away to build that meter because if you are getting all aggro on a no-metered chun shes gonna run and build it so she has some fangs.

also don’t forget that EX lightning legs is a popular chun wakeup choice. personally i use that more than EX SBK. ex sbk to me is finnicky and really situational so i don’t think having and ex sbk counter is really game breaking for that matchup.

i’d love to see videos tho, and keep up the research!
