The Complete Alex Thread

Hey there:razz:, I’ve got another stomp setup which I think is quite ok:

UOH(medium range, so opp. won’t be able to throw you afterwards), cr.LP, any stomp

You start charging right after you’ve pressed MP+MK for the UOH. It works out well since you can land it as a crossup and some people try to throw you after the LP.

Concerning KOH’s request for a spiral DDT setup, I’d recommend integrating normal throw setups like st.LP, karathrow into your gameplay, briefly spoken actions that eventually make your opponent want to tech-throw. many characters won’t be able to instantly throw you after a st.LP since their throwrange is limited in comparison to Alex so they kinda have to wait for you to throw. in that case LP, LK DDT should catch them I think. against characters with far karathrows like Gouki, Ryu or Q it’s pretty much useless since DDTs have a little startup.

Does anyone have useful setups concerning Alex’ towards+HP hitconfirm into SA2 on crouching opponents?
It actually only works on big characters, possibly only on Hugo.
Besides pressing down to provoke a low parry by a rising opponent nothing has come to my mind that would make them eat it.

It’s too risky and specific to be useful, IMO.
The only time I “abuse” Alex’s toward+HP is vs Q and Hugo, or anyone I have in the corner.
If my opponent is close to me, I almost never press Twd+HP, because it’s risk>>reward.

I’m not too sure about how long it takes the LK DDT to be considered airborne, but if I was to guess I’d say it’s around the 3 frame mark. All throws have 3 frame start-up and kara-throwing only adds to its start up(around 1 or 2 frames) it would actually be a good idea to go for the DDT.

PROGRAM PAD TESTING SOON!

yeah, go for it. to me it felt like the DDT’s startup was a little to long to escape karathrows. but let’s see what your pad will speak.

midscreen, alex’ twd+HP always worked fine somewhere about his cr.MP max range as an AA or again on bigger characters.

what I’ve found out also is that alex st.HK is cool when fighting Hugos that abuse his handclap special. try it and give me feedback on that.:bgrin:

flying cross CHOP!!!

I am new to Alex,so I don’t know any good combos rather than mp,chop and mk,chop. What can be good option after chop?I tried to do stampede but it really hard and punishable. What is your opinion?

do EX chop. dash and mix up after it. alex is pretty simple.

so lets get technical with alex. we all know chun back fierce stuffs just about every alex poke. what can we do to stop her?

jumping in and guessing seems like the only option alex has. chun walks right under raw stomps, partitioned or not. this matchup is like a guessing game, with chun having about 5/6 odds of winning.

lets see. chun can reversal a blocked ex elbow dash. so thats not that great of an option unless timed perfectly. even our fellow top alex players from japan have trouble vs chun with meter. chun just has too many options like walking under and trip guarding etc. so jumping in and guessing isnt that great either, since you’re most likely to lose the guess. lately, i’ve been walking back, counter poke with s.mp xx ex elbow dash vs chun s.hp far. its pretty hard to time and takes a lot of reflex, so its not as reliable and abusable. but if you connect it does make them more hesitent of sticking out that one poke.

c.mk is a whole different story. that shit goes under just about everything alex has. and her forward parries take out your c.mp and s.mk. so im not soo sure what to do, i usually s.lk then dash in but i dont abuse it. s.lk then s.mk to mix up. it might not be that smart to let him know ur trying to stop his shit with s.lk though. but keep it mind it tap’s chuns leg with her far fierce and back fierce pokes. just space urself for position.

f+fierce sadly isnt an option vs chun. too risky =[. without meter who cares though i just dash in and try and rape her, she cant do much about it. just dont let those pokes add up to a super, it adds up. rush in smartly.

back fierce isnt an option either, she ducks right under.

chun lis tend to crouch lp+lk for a tech, or c.lp if nothings there. i like to counter this with c.lk meaty, SGGK. walk up a little bit so u dont miss the throw if ur not in corner.

and um, for some reason i like c.hp for a mixup. it goes over chuns c.mk, and chuns back fierce resets it. its still punishable i think and should by no means be used often.

so lets discuss more on this matchup. so we’d have more fun playing it lol.

Rush that bitch if she doesn’t have meter.

So,there isn’t much for alex to combo.Only mp and c.mk into chop, then into ex chop? What good options to pressure opponent?

Those combos don’t apply much pressure unless you have them in a good position, really you have to think about what you want your opponent to be doing, basically, to apply pressure you need to get them in the corner or knock them down, especially knock them down because alex has a lot more mix up here.

Once you knock them down, it can be pretty tricky to guess what you are going to do, 3 worst scenario, they either guess parry and punish you, they wake up super or they wake up ex reversal. EDIT- there is a forth scenario, they can roll, which can help you possibly, I can’t elaborate on it right now, maybe someone else will.

You can probably guess up most of your options here, tick grab, karagrab, meaty combos, crossup headstomp, spiral ddt, crossup ddt, and his standing fierce “as mentioned before and beat out alot of the reversals in the game”, the rest is basically just baiting.

You basically want them to constantly be in a position where they have to rockpaper scissors guess, whether or not they take half their stun bar.

He doesn’t have much going for him when it comes to like block strings, but he does have some good corner pressure to keep them there, tick grab, karagrab, elbow slash, random flash chops, throw in some ex flash chops when you think they think they can do something. In my opinion you’d want to avoid using ddt’s unless you are close enough to hit with close s.mk I always seem to get fucked unless I do that or use it when they are waking up.

When you are applying pressure with alex you want to think whether or not they will jump after your hit, you can hit them with an early standing fierce if you wanted, but He has a lot of anti air options, especially if your opponent is jumping out of pressure. you can try his d-fierce, f-mp, or late st.mp xx air knee and Head stomps.

Once they are guessing what you are going to do you can go for the jump in fierce - st.mk - ex flash chop combo or xx super.

While implementing this like others have mentioned before your goal is to stun them, at least that was the common consensus last time I checked.

I’m sure that this information isn’t that usefull, you’d learn it on your own over time and its possibly a bad strategy, so If any of the people who know more about alex want to improve on this, please correct me. This is my theory and pretty similar to how I go about my game, so if I’m doing some stupid shit it would be nice to know too.

Thanks guys and thanks for giving me something to do necroses.

to add to koh.

your best option is to block on their wake up. seriously. you guys may think of it as losing your momentum but think of it. its especially nice when you dont know you’re opponent. the more better players will block, but you can tell. i usually block their wakeups the first 2 wakeups of theirs. thats how you judge most of the time whether they’re a reversal scrub or not. after that, you can proceed to mix up properly if they’re good. if not, they reversal’d and you can rape them.

after a stun or a missed super etc…qcf+hp then hcb+hp is the usual choice of punishment. vs faster recovery things like ken SA3 i use s.mp xx ex flash chop or s.mp into super if i have some (if you’re having trouble cancelling s.mp into super, use s.mk, its fast enough, just double tap it the last hit of ken’s super) thats pretty basic though. oh and one more i see ksk and zangoef do is qcf+hp, s.mkxxsa2. if not much meter than i see them do, qcf+hp, s.mkxxex flash chop.

anyways about blocking. yeah you do lose momentum but its a big part of alex’s game. its just safe. remember stay a bit out of throw distance too, for throw mashers. tick SGGK works great.

nothing really is too safe with alex, ur just gonna have to guess your way to a rape.

Besides from rushing when she is meterless, after that i just try to be as random as possible always watching for that c.mk.

other than that, is a fucked up matchup

Koh can you write more about meaty combos and crossup combos?
MagnetoManiac,I know that blocking on wakeup is a good option, but it turns out always to guess if my opponent do reversal or wait to parry,so it hard to understand what to do between block and empty jump that followed by grab.

Necroses, just remember this one thing when fighting Chun: the moment you start playing at the Chun player’s rhythm, you’ve lost the match. One moment of control is all Chun needs to start wrecking your system. Now, unless you’ve got good ume or the gods of luck are on your side, control the flow of the match.

Personally, I’d rather get thrown than guess wrong and eat a super by Chun. Learn to read what the Chun player’s doing. You have to know the opponent and what he’ll do with Chun.

Remember: Alex is not a safe character at all. If you wanted to play a character that was safe…you’d play Chun. Basically, every option you have gets fucked over once Chun gains one meter/gains control of the flow of the match. So, RTSD before she gets a meter…and then, the best thing you can do is try to keep in control and read your opponent as best as possible.

Looks like you guys are on the right path.

I say put Alex vs. Chun above Alex vs. Ken, or at least, put them on par with each other. Chun’s just a bitch to get in on period. Personally, I have an easier time against Ken than Chun (maybe that’s just my playstyle or I play against so many farking Kens that I’m used to it).

alex has more options vs ken. at least the poking game isnt as terrible as it is vs chun.

what are you having trouble with urien for? alex is good vs urien. makoto is just wtf. c.mk and her dash rapes everything =(.

my list is.

Alex vs Chun

Alex vs Yun

Alex vs Makoto

Alex vs Akuma

Alex vs Ken

Alex vs Ibuki

from hardest to easiest.

It’s more like Chun>Yun=Makoto>Ken=Oro>Ibuki=Akuma>Dudley=Yang>Urien

id say

Chun

Yun
Makoto
Remy/Oro/Akuma (keepaways are annoying as hell)
Ibuki
Ken

is ibuki a hard match up for alex and if it is does he get raped like ken chun makoto

and for the yun match up you just cant let him corner you and anti-air his dive kick accordingly and don’t be predictable

akuma rapes him for free t if the akuma player sucks i fhe does he gets raped this match is based who is right
feel free comment no negative shit but positive crtiticsim

ps:alex is the shit
