The Complete Alex Thread

if you’re going to go for a stun combo after and air to air starter, why don’t you just do:

air to air fierce land s.rh, s. jab, s. rh., s.strong XX EX rising knee smash.

and don’t say it doesn’t work, I do it pretty often.

That just threw me a bit when I saw it. I don’t have the ranbat anymore, but you’re probably right; it was low short and not low forward (they do look extremely similar). Thanks.

It’s just a combo, not a link.

I do good with alex when i use his third SA. A really effective move is his dashing flying elbow to his SA. Make sure to use the Fierce button for initiating the SA. Do it whether the elbow hits the person or makes him block. The only way to get out of this move is super jump backwards (which doesnt always work) or doing an anti-air.

Yo, man. I got to hand it to you. Not only did you just suggest THE VINTAGE STUN GUN TRAP as a reliable tactic to ALEX players, but you managed to super fuck all the info into the realm of the…

…NOT ACCURATE.

I love it when people don’t read threads and just come in here and post. Thankyou for your contribution. I will learn this new tactic and win evo.

God no.

Sorry if i dont read the whole damn thread. I just come in and try to contribute something with absolute no bias and everyone turns into a little bitch. Sorry if i ruined your day -.^

HEY GUYS~! I FOUND THIS INIFINITE PLAYING AGAINST THE CPU! YOU DO MP, DDT OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND THEY CANT ESCAPE.

See you in TOP 8 AT EVO’08!

I do throw out either j.hp-close mk-mk ddt or meaty mk to ddt once every like, ten matches. It sometimes works. Other times I just get my ass handed to me when they duck and I’m flying through the air like a chump.

What is Alex’s best wake up option, I’m having a hard match against yun, and wake up is my biggest problem.

What do you also think Alex’s best option standing against dive kick, parry, elbow xx ex airgrab?

Block. Look for throws and stomp accordingly. You can use “EXAirgrab” to catch random shit while getting up. Stuff like UOH and random standing moves.

Avoid using it on low hits and some of the small bitch characters like Chun or the Twins.

As for dive kicks–MP into EX is usually the choice idea. Lacking meter you can dash while they fall from the MP and mix up with close MK or Powerbombs.

Follow your heart.

that’s okay, he does that in every thread.

Thanks, man, I appreciate the help, I’ll let you know if I need any more advice.

=)

I’ve found that parry into f.hp isn’t too bad against dive kicks. Of course, you can only do it a few times before Yun parries and then wrecks your face.

Yeah, I find f.hp to be a bit easy to parry for a lot of people, and it tends to lead to face-rape if you’re not careful. Still, we have to mix up with the options we have, and with the right timing, we can stuff a divekick with:
s.mp
f.mp
s.hp
f.hp
Or we can go for the air knee before he starts it and hope he can’t j.lk us out of it on reaction. It’s pretty fast, and I can stay with pretty good certainty that nobody can get that 100% of the time. Still, you can’t get too predictable or he’ll just start throwing early jump attacks to hose your air knee. Yun has the advantage on the jump-in, you have to outplay him. Also, consider a fierce/ex slash elbow if you have the charge, to go under.

I’ve also found a properly timed MK/EX air stampede makes dive kicks look silly, but it’s fairly precise, and later than you’d expect. Too early and it whiffs, too late and he knocks you out of it.

After playing a few matches against a friend of mine yesterday, I have a few questions regarding Alex. My friend uses Ryu and Akuma (sometimes Ken but he doesn’t like Ken…beats me as to why); when he plays Akuma I usually come out with the majority of wins; but when he switches to Ryu it seems he gains the upper hand. Here’s my main trouble I have when he switches to Ryu:

On his wake up I can usually get in a HP or a back HP (if I condition him to try and parry) and I rarely EX Stomp when he’s on wake up, sometimes he’ll dragon punch which will either trade or beat out my moves. He is fairly random with the wake up shoryukens so what should I do when he’s on wake up, should I stick with trying to attack him on his wake up to keep pressure or wait and block/parry accordingly? Also, he likes to go into block chains (best way I can describe it) with various lows and then go for a throw, then when I’m on wake up he’ll either go with Ryu’s overheads, crouching MK, or a throw; the overhead and MK I can parry most of the time if I’m expecting it. I usually just block on wake up since I feel Alex doesn’t have many safe options on wake up, but I’m having a hard time with the throws. Mainly I’m just wondering what are the best options to keep the offensive and what to do when the opponent is on wake up, and what are the best options when you’re waking up/best way to beat out the throws.

Well, Ryu’s block chains can often be stuffed by a random EX Air Knee, if he’s close enough to be ticking for a throw.

To stay on the offensive you need to be making him block on wakeup. If you think he’s going to shoryuken, don’t throw a meaty, delay a bit, parry, and smack him down. Mix it up a bit. Honestly I find wakeup mixups difficult myself when it comes to Alex, especially against people with SRKs. If you time it right and range it right, a meaty strong or fierce flash should stuff a srk, shouldn’t it? Not that you want that to get blocked, though, as that means your initiative is gone…hmm.

Anyone else?

Let him get up. Getting your shit blocked isn’t lost initiative. Someone who’s blocking isn’t attacking. And… I can’t continue this without it sounding like a cheesy Kung Fu movie. You get the idea.

Don’t be so dead set on hitting him on his wake up that you risk losing your positioning. Some ideas to try-

-Let him stand up and go to work with your pokes and Kara-throw.
-Empty jump straight up to bait Shoryukens. Parry and punish or get a free jump in!
-Whiff something then block. Retaliate accordingly.
-Call his mom a cockmonger. Attack when distracted. Probably won’t work twice.

If you’re having trouble with throws then you’re probably not wake up stomping enough. Keep that in mind.

Flash Chops will lose to SRK’s. Like, always.
