according to juicebox the most reliable is to medium punch falling sky when she’s about the top of her arc, ex FS is more reliable if you do it later though.
I was thinking a punishes section would be useful for the guide. It’s difficult to know what moves the opponents have are safe, or if they’re only punishable with certain moves because some characters are played so infrequently. For instance if I’m sitting right on a blanka and he does electricity, I’m never sure what to do that won’t get hit on startup etc.
edit: another for instance, sakura and dan style qcb kicks, are these just safe? it feels like I play people who spam them and I can do nothing about it. (I realize this is why I’m bad haha)
just something i would like to add to the yun/yang part.
I actually don’t have much xp vs yang, but i know yun very well.
btw i think that right up is from pre 2012~~~
Either way, I believe that the matchup now is 5.5-4.5, I HAD to choose an integer ratio: 5-5
Like before, (assuming the yun knows how to space dive kicks, knows setups…basically good with yun) Yun still controls the pace of the matchup from the first second. It is VERY annoying. He controls the neutral game to the point where it feels like the only way to win is for the yun to mess up. However, because of Yun’s damage nerf; it is now at a point where yun actually needs up to 5-7 turns to actually win(unless he has super…and then ends geneijin combos with a reset that goes into ultra…then that is pretty much all your health…lol. shits cheap).
as I said yun NEEDS quite a bit of turns to win. BUT; abel only needs 3-4 to win. And if abel can do 2-3 in succession; yun is most likely gonna get dead or stunned. THIS is why i believe it is now 5-5. Yun now needs to be very precise with his shit and NEVER drop ANYTHING. My yun friend actually says whenever he drops a combo and I punish with cr Fierce or he messes up a dive kick and I grab, “I just died a little inside.” lol
i actually think this matchup is a lot like sagat matchup. As in if the guy is good, it is hard as HELL to get a knockdown; but once you get one, it is pretty much over, and it is moreso in this matchup because Yun has so little health. btw if yun whiffs upkick and you block, he is like 99% always within range to do Cr Fierce into Sky fall. Also his backdash IS stepkick os-able…i think.
to find punishes the best way to do it if you want the answer written down is to look at frame data that way you can have an explanation to it? If thats the case I can help out with it if time is a problem. Ill be honest im not the best abel around but I feel that if I help contribute it will make me more interested in getting better.
wonderful
if you’d like to help supplement the guide with a character punish analysis, you’re more than free to do so
any insight or findings that you give will be greatly appreciated.
I had a friendly set against an xbl buddy of mine that mains Gen and it was a good set.
As some of you may know, not only is Gen a footsie machine but he has certain normals that “puzzle piece” against Abel’s, most notably Abel’s step kick against his sweep.
Dealing with this problem I began instead to whiff punish his sweep and other crouching normals with cr:lk: and then chain it into standing :lk: and it worked miracles,
not to mention having a net total of 60 damage instead of 40!
I took this same concept and applied against Ryus later on and it worked all the same!
20 points of extra damage may sound insignificant but you’ll once you apply it yourself how nicely the damage adds up.
While normal whiff punishing his low medium kick 5 times with standing light kicks nets 200 damage, doing cr :lk: first every time adds another 100 in total.
I’ve recently been going through a character crisis, I have been playing Cody for a long while but I want to try something. different. I’ve been learning all sorts of characters and reading up, Yun, Sagat, Gen, Seth, Adon, Ryu, Ken, Fei etc… etc… Point is this thread is soooo well put together my Abel has leveled up the quickest out of all other characters after only several days! And I feel the info in this thread is the reason for that, def gonna be using more of this guy, and I’m gonna compile and print all the usefull info in this thread! Cheers!
I recently got an app for AE 2012 frame data for my phone, and on it, it says Abel’s Second Low (I assume the sweep on COD) is cancelable on hit, leaving “a possible +9F advantage when completing EX Focus-Dash in the shortest possible time”
I didn’t know about this, and never seen it used. Seems kinda cheap, but could catch out A LOT of players.
I’ve landed it a few times in a real match, the trick is when to use 2nd low since its not safe… I guess good to know that option exists, but hard to decide when to use without taking unnecessary risk…
Happy new years everyone! Still loving Abel, been doing ok,
But I ran into a decent Ibuki…and got double perfected lol any pointers(My bad for getting knocked down I did beat him in the run back though buuuut I’m still not confident in match-up)? Does the write up in first page still apply?
the match write-ups within the guide are not recommended to be taken seriously.
They were rushed, are superficial and I believe were only meant to give the “backbone” outline of the match up which subsequently it was then meant for players here on this forum to expand and update.
For now, if you wish to study the guide thoroughly, i recommend sticking to everything leading up to the match up section.
The match up section will be updated eventually.
