I agree. c MK would be great if it was special cancellable. c MP is the standard SFV universal one. I swear Justin Wong can beat top players with just c MP and throw.
I’m stil watching that UltraChenTV Colon video. Here’s some big guard damage:
b+HK, V Trigger, dash, s HP, V Trigger, dash, s HP, QCF+HP, Super
Another interesting thing I saw in the lengthly UltraChenTV Colon video was how her V Skill parries and also attacks! Is that not the definition of an option select? Yes Kaahleeen’s V Skill attack is punishable by I don’t know by how much but still. In Tekken, DOA5LR, and SFV, any fighting game, parries/attack reversals are balanced with recovery time. VS an attack reversal heavy character, it’s a great strategy to somehow bait out the attack reversal so you get a big punish. Kahleen’s are the same way except for her V Skill. It’s definitely a strange V Skill. Potentially very strong? I think Kolins should stop using her command attack reversals and just use V Skill.
I see. Thing is, I love Cammy but her playstyle is so… straightforward. I’d like to try a character with more strategies/mindgames since Cammy pretty much forces me to be constantly poking my opponents and honestly I’m not very good at it.
Oh ok yeah right, totally forgot about just dropping a storm on his ass.
I was having some luck with L vanity>neutral jump double jump. But then he started to turtle up after seeing vanity. I haven’t played at all today really so I’m already forgetting some of her stuff. Hailstorms… check.
Finally got the chance to try Kolin out outside of the lab.
First match, right away against an Ultra Gold Boxer. I got completely destroyed.
Took about 10 matches before I even started to get a feel for what I was doing.
My first match win was using a counter against Urien’s tackle. Felt pretty darn good.
Lost most of my matches though, but had a lot of fun already.
I can really see myself main this character.
Funnily enough my last match was also against a Boxer, but this time I completely destroyed him with Kolin’s v-trigger.
She isn’t overwhelming, all you need to adjust to are her additional mobility options and the Vanity Step. Everything else is simple to learn, counters are all a read based thing or a reactive thing no need to overthink them.
In SFV terms, she’s one of the more complex just because of her broad scale of options. But SFV isn’t very complex or demanding to begin with, so she’s still easier than a majority of characters from older games.
I think L hailstorm will become her chief hailstorm. It covers the most options:
Done from a range where it will wiff in front of the opponent, or hit them, the opponent has to dash into kolin which is dangerous, or dash back and give up space, or block the hailstorm and give kolin frame advantage pretty close. None are great options for the opponent.
Kolin can also generally follow up L storm with a jump or dash in as it covers these attack vectors.
Versus m hailstorm:
The opponent can walk forward or back against it in reaction and neither is a great range for kolin. If the opponent blocks it that’s a different story, but it’s hard to get it to make contact.
Something theory fighter is doing H vanity into a low. I think that option might be overlooked ATM.
Depends on your combo before your hail. crMP stMK will leave them closer than crLK crLP so for the latter M Hail hits in situations that crMP stMK M Hail whiffs. Also, either version of hailstorm knockdown dash M Vanity Step leaves them in situations where you can beat 3f normals. I was able to do something M Vanity stHP CC a 3f normal, the momentum let’s you link another stHP into whatever.
whatever M Hail M Vanity stHP on back tech
I feel like if you do 1 dash after a hail, go L. If you do 2, go with M.
Regarding the spacing on what you do before Hail ex: crMP stMK x M Hail dash dash and see how meaty it hits on back tech. It whiffs on crLK crLP M Hail.
Some quick and obvious stuff about her hitconfirms.
1.st.lpx2 (confirm into target combo xx special)
2.cr.lk,cr.lp (confirm into L parabellum or ex parabellum)
3.cr.mp (confirm into st.mk or st.lk xx special)
4.crossup j.lk,st.lpx2 (confirm into target combo xx special)
5.st.mp,st.lp (confirm into L parabellum or ex parabellum)
(Bonus CH setup):
St.lp (blocked) CH cr.mp (confirm into cr.mp xx special or cr.hp xx special)
I think these are her primary confirms. They all leave her at plus frames with the ability to go for more pressure or go for cr.mp xx vanity step or cr.mp xx L parabellum which should be spaced far enough to be safe against most retaliation
