Thanks, yea the ending really threw me off. I actually kept up with the game and even played the demo, but I caved in due to the reviews and lack of funds at the time. But this new one looks really sick.
Honestly, it wasn’t my cup of tea either, but at least it had some imagination and originality to it. Lords of Shadow was just boring and stale.
Generic in this context means did nothing new or particularly well. Seriously, something like Lament of Innocence (which isn’t even that good) was a freaking masterpiece compared to LoS.
Really not sure why so many people are so hard on Lords of Shadow. The nature of their criticism often looks more as though they’re stretching for some reason to not like it, as if by not being the Second Coming on a Blu-ray it somehow failed miserably.
…but very fun to play, as it was basically the next logical evolutionary step up from Devil May Cry’s gameplay. It dealt with many of the issues I had with even the stellar DMC3. It’s also over-the-top and bawdy very much to style of DMC, and I’m not sure how someone can so love one while despising the other except for maybe the bizarre kind of tongue-in-cheek cheesecake.
I don’t think I’m being “hard” on Lords of Shadow. It’s just a dull, mediocre game, and there are much better examples of that 3D action genre readily available. It’s not a Castlevania game, really; it’s a lousy version of DMC crossed with GoW.
