The Castlevania Thread

I would have liked the game alot more if I didn’t watch a play through before, I wanted the game that bad. Never did that before.

Will not happen with Lords 2

That being said for a comparison, Devil May Cry 4 is superior when it comes to combat, but the level design for Lords is far superior.

LoS is a fantastic game if you ignore the crappy hit detection for combat. Oh, and the stupid quick time rings that you’re supposed to press a button when they converge, when the reality is you press it after the rings pass each other. So stupid and aggravating, little things like that really killed my enjoyment of the game to the point I didn’t play it for an entire year.

They really should have used a similar combat engine to Lament of Innocence. That game had some spectacular whip animations and it felt like you were really using a whip, and not some ridiculous long appendage that does whatever you want. Plus, the combos were pretty cool and the controls were super fucking tight, and blocking and hit detection was really good, too. If only they had the combat team from LoI work with the design team of LoS, we’d have a perfect Castlevania in 3D.

The enemy AI in Lords of Shadow is actually better than that of most other action games of this general style. That’s part of what set it apart for me. They are, for lack of better words, more observant, adjusting to player patterns to a degree.

Beat Bayonetta already and GoW, I don’t have 3 so there’s nothing I can do since I don’t have the mullah to buy a ps3.

Somewhat, it’s really hard actually. But not like Ninja Gaiden 2 hard, because when a game si just too hard it becomes stressful. And everytime you put that game in the disc tray you know you’re going to lose some of your hair line lol.

Why would you put yourself through that stress.

All this bashing is one of the reason the FGC bothers me, bashing on each others games lol. I enjoyed all the games mentioned above and I intend to play LoS, someone gave me a fair answer and I’ll buy it. Though Assassin’s Creed will always be my favourite series.

tl;dr
STOP BASHING GAMES!!! bash people who hate video games, they’re the ones who are unfavoured by God.

No one is really “bashing” anything. Rather, we’re pointing out that with the THOUSANDS of games coming out every year, some of which are legitimately incredible and amazing, Lords of Shadow doesn’t make the cut.

You should always hold your games to a higher standard. You would be a fool not to.

Duly noted combat engine flaws aside.
The music and narration make it hands down better then any game it’s been compared to in this thread.

It’s easily a amazing title, very much a castlevania game and super enjoyable experience.

The narration was stupid and unnecessary. I read ten times faster than that, and Castlevania has never been much about the story anyways.

As for the music, in a series as famous for its tracks as Castlevania, Lords of Shadow didn’t stand out in any way. I still haven’t heard anything in the more recent 3D Castlevanias to top this one;

Doesn’t mean it can’t start now. The story for Lords of Shadows was a good one. They fucked up on telling you about Gabriel’s plot development instead of actually seeing it happen.

I played one Castlevania game before this, you could fuse stuff to create more weapons like a zweihander and etc. That was the most fun a had in the game, cus the rest was really easy :frowning:

Sounds like you played Curse of Darkness. Creating weapons was cool. Most of the stuff I ended up making was joke weapons.

A bunch of slack jawed twilight princesses in HERE!

Simons quest had one of the best music if not THE best music in the whole entire castlevania series this is the real deal not your artsy fartsy new age GBA titles and the shitty n64 ones (Symphony of the night is the shit DOE but Alucard was a little bitch for crying for his momma all the time)

Simon was the real deal he didnt need to combine no fucking pokemon cards to get stronger or need special items to boost him, or help from others and all the lame drama bullshit that came with it, all he needed was the fucking whip and that was it, Simon was/is the ultimate vampire killer!

He even went out of his way to collect Draculas body parts just so he could fuck him up again!

Because I grew up with Castlevania and have been following and playing Castlevania for 23 years of my life. At this point, I’d like to think that I know what makes a great Castlevania game, which is why I am working on a Castlevania fan game of my own with a few other people.

To me, Lords of Shadow is a pitiful attempt at a Castlevania reboot. They got someone who clearly didn’t know what a Castlevania game is even though he claimed to love Castlevania IV. Seriously, who the fuck has ever heard of David Cox before LoS? Yeah, it’s a decent action game but it sure as fuck isn’t anything I would call Castlefuckingvania.

Oh and your dumb little Titan bosses? Forgotten One says hi.

And what makes a great castlevania game?

I didn’t know you had to be famous before you could make a video game o_O

I could sit here for hours and ramble on about what makes a good Castlevania game, but I won’t. All of what I think makes a great Castlevania game will be present in my fan game. The demo should be released next month sometime. Just finished the Holy Water code last night.

Who ever said anything about being famous?

Listen… I know we all have our opinions about Castlevania, but at the end of the day all of us have one thing in common. We all love Castlevania (maybe some of us don’t?) But it is apparent with all of the strong feelings and opinions we are all posting on here.

I dunno dude, you where like “Who ever heard of Brian Cox before” kinda gave off that impression that you need to be…known, to work on CV or something.

Oh that. That was just me ranting lol. I believe he actually worked on Symphony. Could be wrong, though.

No clue cuz I had actually never heard of him before LOS. Never even heard of Merc Steam before lol.

lol I didn’t know they made that shitty Clive Barker’s Jericho game.
