I’m surprised by the OoE hate. :rofl:

OoE is my favorite castlevania game to date. It had multiple area maps, broken glyph setups, good difficulty and had great music too. (An Empty Tome, Tower of Dolls, Riddle, Ebony Wings, etc)

Here is how I rank the handheld CVs;

PoR > AoS > DoS > OoE > HoD >>>CotM

Honestly, all of them were at least “enjoyable, above average” with the exception of Circle of the Moon. I haven’t read through all the lengthy posts above, but I don’t understand how you can like Harmony and dislike the succeeding entries. They were the same thing, except improved. Vastly improved travel inside the castle, way better music, better graphics, more interesting enemies, way more stuff to do and collect, etc.

For my money, Portrait of Ruin is the best and the pinnacle of Metroidvanias (not just handhelds). I loved the idea of the castle being the central hub-world to a bunch of crazy painting areas, and the optional quest system was fantastic, as was the Nest of Evil. The bosses were wonderfully designed (Dracula plus Death actually posed a respectable challenge, unlike the pathetically end bosses of Aria, Dawn, and especially Eclesia), and the game was just tremendous fun with the team-up dynamic and all the available cancels.

I wanna know which one of you mothafuckas clock tower stages were made for. Who is it that likes these parts I HATE YOU ALL. The only game in which the clock tower stage wasn’t the part I hated the most was the damn Ship of Fools in CV3. I used to never get Sypha because if you did you were forced to do the got damn ship stage. Gimme my nigga Alucard and all those mudhole stages anyday of the week.

I always hand write a letter to Konami asking for tougher, more deadly Clock Tower stages. I write it in Japanese. I don’t know Japanese.

While you pound sand over in baby land listen to this and know why Clock Towers are made.

Yeah I love the 3 NES games, they’re great. I don’t know about when I’m coming back to GGPO, thought I’d want to for King of Summer but I haven’t felt like playing in a while and I have a lot of work to do around the house. My stick is in pieces being painted and modified but I had to put that to the side to get other stuff done first.

True, you didn’t say hard. I still love me some clock towers. Almost always the best stage in CV’s.

First Clock Tower was birds dropping hunchbacks on you. That shit made me hate life in a way I didn’t know was possible.

Then why do you hate it? Just because the ship comes next? The ship isn’t even hard, it’s pretty damn easy especially if you have Syfa, ice and fire are your friends. Hell, the Clocktower in Cv3 is one of the best designed clock towers in the series, pretty ingenious level design. Everything is in a perfect spot, even where the medusa heads come at you while you ride the gears. Everything is just a giant puzzle and you need to know how each piece fits. The patterns in the game don’t change. Know where enemies spawn, know where to stand and attack, and almost always keep Holy Water x3 on hand. What it doesn’t have in range your whip makes up, and having Syfa on hand gives you plenty of range alternative if you have fire or ice, or thunder especially since it homes.

Maybe he just doesn’t find it that fun.

I agree with some of what i could get through but Jesus Christ he text walled the hell out of that article.

The comment about symphony being the best asceticly and really playing off the strength of the room design/map layout I totally agree with.

That is one of the few things I think ooe got right.
It’s rather small and travel areas make little sense but they made good use of the rooms space.
That’s actually my fav part about hod online.
Lots of monsters and some of the best maps.

I know it did well I just hope they realize the money that can be made with a ground up build mmo castlevania, not just some slapdash single map crawl.

Or at the least, flesh it out so half the cast isn’t xcopy.

It’s no wonder weeaboo is the most popular, easy to pickup, strongest, easiest damage, deepest expansion of skill set.

I would like to know form lovers of Castlevania if I should pick of Lords of Shadows, if you think I should not btoher and just wait for this new one to be released, or it’s necessary to buy/beat this one in order to understand/appreciate what follows in this trilogy.

Thanks, I saw it for $19.99 and that’s my favourite price range outside of fighters.

Lords of Shadow on its own is a good game (not great but good). At first glance it looks like a God of War facsimile, and there some similarities. The combat, however, plays out very differently on a fundamental level: you’re not a god. Gabriel is much more fragile than Kratos, and the enemies are fairly good at smacking you around for doing dumb shit. You have to be a lot more precise with your block/dodge timing and more careful about how much you commit to an attack. The brass tacks of the combat may or may not be as interesting to you as it is to me, but it works well.

There were some issues with it, like some odd camera stuff here or there and some less than stellar level design and exploration, nothing to ruin it but it mires the game a bit.

I’m not sure if you’ll need to have played LoS to comprehend the sequels, but the ending was kind of cool. The game is certainly worth $20.
