Meh, I always found G&G to be better than Castlevania. I perfer straight up platforming mechanics over action/adventure/RPG element stuff. Thats why I always perfered the pre-Castlevania: SOTN stuff.
I think so. I was looking for it at online stores last week with no luck. I didn’t try Ebay but Amazon had a few users selling it, lowest cost was about $45.
I got really lucky yesterday and found a used cart at Gamestop, bought it for $18.
Okay, everyone is going to hate me for bumping this thread, but I’ve really gotton into these Castlevania games. What was I thinking with that post of mine? :looney: I played through all of 3 of the GBA Castlevanias. My personal thoughts on each one:
Circle of the Moon: I remeber getting this game and Final Fight One as soon as I got a GBA. I didn’t play alot of GBA games, this one of the exceptions to the rule. Nathan Graves(the guy you play) is one of the rare castlevania heroes(recently anyway) who doesn’t look like a flaming douche. The game is very dark, but the oily-painting atmosphere really adds to the Castlevania feel that the later games don’t have. The DSS system is pretty damn good, although its mostly gimmicky. However, those summons kick ass! Uranas + Thunderbird = GGPO Dracula.
Also the game is pretty hard. That last boss battle is PAINFUL. I barely beat him at the end. I had no more MP and no more MP regenration items with about 30 HP left Overall a pretty good game, although I have no reason to go back after I beat it.
Harmony of Dissonance: Shit. This game is just pure shit. Gay ass main character, washed out backgrounds, HORRIBLE level design, confusing ass gameplay, stupid magic books that make the game way too easy for it own good(Drucula was doing 1 point of damage to me…on HARD)…this is just a really bad game. I beat it so I just get rid of it. A big step back from COTM. Just…ugh.
Aria of Sorrow: Now this is more like it! AoS took a little longer to make, but it definately shows just how good the Castlevania formula can be. Soma Cruz may look metrosexual(my brother asked if I was a girl while playing >_<), but at least he looks cool. That a pimpass coat he got there. The level design/enemy design is the best of the three GBA; blooming with colorful areas and anime-inspired foes. The weapon system is fucking awesome, but once I got that big ass light sword and the HP draining one from the Forbidden Area, it was all over for anybody and everybody
The soul system is innovative, but for about…95% of the game I just relied on my weapons and saw the Game Over screen less than 10 times. The boss battles are all pretty sastifying, and the extra Julius mode aint bad either. Overall an amazingly good game that you should seek out if you don’t already have it
I look forward to buying either Dawn of Sorrow or Portrait of Ruin for DS next weekend.
Word the fuck up. The REAL LAST BOSS is the hardest and best boss in the game. Feels real good beating it. Oh yeah, I forgot one of the girl in this game had a nice body, no hentai. LOL
It’s supposedly because Juste is a descendant of Sypha Belnades, which gives him the blue aura. But, really, it’s more like he’s an Alucard palette swap.
SFF: I’d definitely recommend PoR over DoS, unless you have a PSP, in which case fuck those and get the upcoming Rondo remake with SotN.
Well I plan on getting all three this year Those trailers for the Rondo remake fail to impress though: Richter moves too damn strict, and the feeling of the 2d artwork is just lost on the 3d remake. I’m proberly going to go through the game as fast as possible so I can play the original(for years, I’ve had to settle for the crap SNES remake).
For any Castlevania fans out there Castlevania Double pack(Aria/Harmomy) is 15 bucks and Curse of Darkness is 10 bucks at Eb games. I got the double pack so far it’s fun as hell. The sale ends on the 17th.
