The Castlevania Thread

If you can’t present an intelligent argument and throw out Ad Homonym attacks, maybe SRK isn’t really where you should be.

Yes, we are Castlevania Fanboys. Using that as an insult is taking things a bit too far though.

Isn’t there a new DS title coming out?

Yes. It was announced yesterday, if I’m not mistaken.

If I am mistaken, this post will mysteriously disappear very soon.

I have to be honest, I like the DS CVs better than SotN too. SotN is fun, but the pacing is kinda slow for my taste and I like the wider selection of spells/special attacks from the newer games.

I also think the version of the Frankenstein Monster from SotN is kinda lame.

Hope I didn’t offend anyone.

me too actually, i was really into the latest one

BAN THEM!!!

Just kidding. Anyway, It’s still cool to like PoR, it’s a great game. The only reason I prefer SOTN is because Alucard is a cool character. PoR was the same as, if not better than SOTN, as it SHOULD be. Considering that PoR is based off the same formula as SotN

SotN is so Original though.

I agree, I think that Portrait of Ruin is my favorite too, mainly because how it scared the hell out of me who you had to fight to get the Vampire Killer, and it
made me almost crap my pants when I saw the final Dracula encounter…I was like, are you SERIOUS???

yeah the final drac in PoR is harder than all the others i fought, and ive beaten (legitamitely on consoles) I, II, III, IV, Bloodlines, Circle of Moon, Dawn of Sorrow and PoR. but Drac is hardest in PoR followed by Circle and then 1.

site for the new one is up

great art!!!

POR is indeed better game, but Alucard is my fav next to Richter and the fact SOTN took my soul 1st.

Alucard and Dracula are just too cool. Bram Stoker really knew what he was doing when he wrote his novel. Vampires > all other mythological creatures.
Vampire Killers > The Brothers Grimm and Van Helsing.

I prefer Alucard over Richter (no homo.) The weapons and Vampire magic are just too broken cool. Especially after all of the different incarnations I have seen of him.

I see. Well Richter just has vampire killer swag. lol. That’s why he’s my favorite and he has the most badass theme song. Especially when you fight him on POR to get the whip. It sent shivers down my spine. I was like oh shit. Nigga, I’m fixing to fight Richter, lol O.O

Yeah, but the Cream Pie assist GGPOs Richter. Alucard doesn’t get beat by pie.

lol…that aint funny man. That was a fluke, I swear. I mean we all can’t be the omnipotent son of Dracula or insert broken father.

I love PoR, but I can’t see why so many people like that over Dawn of Sorrow. I dunno, PoR just seemed too easy and linear for a Castlevania title, even the “Metroidvania” style ones. I also liked a lot of the bosses more in DoS than in PoR. Pandemodeum was a dope boss. And the seal system was’nt bad either, breaking the blue bricks on the other hand was kind of a random idea, but it was in about two areas of the game at most.

The reason why is the team-up system, and the fact it was wi-fi co-op. That’s why. But then again I never played DoS yet.

I’m pretty pumped about this new one. I’m liking the look of this new lady :).

New one? Dang, Castlevania Dungeon is late on that one.

My take, having bought both PoR and DoS 2 times.

I think overall PoR was just more fun, and it had way better music, which adds to the fun factor. DoS only has 2 good tracks, I forget the name of one, but the other is Wizardry lab.

Fun, doesnt neccesairly mean better. DoS is more difficult, and you can get fucked up on some parts, and also there were time when I didn’t know where the fuck to go next. PoR was a cake walk compared to it. Also the castle is a bit more ominous in DoS, when you see a new area, you can help wonder, oh shit, there better be a save room near. In PoR, you went through a circus, twice I think.

It’s really hard to point out. Something about playing Portait.

Anyway I’m def getting this new one. Its soundtrack better kick as much ass as PoR’s.

To me, PoR felt alot smoother than DoS. It had a great flow to it.

I love the somewhat more linear flow of PoR… More like a classic CV game. As TTZ stated earlier, there were a few points in DoS, and many of the other metroidvanias, where I wasn’t sure where to go next. I’m not particularly fond of that kind of feeling. Plus, my favorites when I was younger were always CV3 and Super CV4, and my heart is still kinda there in a lot of ways.
