The Castlevania Thread

My friend thinks HoD is the best GBA CV

Needless to say, he’s not my friend anymore :shake:

That game is the biggest load of shit. I never even finished it. Ugly graphics, stupid magic system(I’d take DoS soul collecting over this), the worst castle layout ever, and terrible, terrible music. Not to mention the main character is an Alucard ripoff if I ever saw one.

You forgot brain-dead enemies. Seriously, the bosses were just there to look pretty.

They did a good job of blinding you with all the bright fucking colors going on. God, that game is the biggest crock of shit. That Double Pack I bought was the like night and day in terms of quality(since AoS owns everything else on the GBA for free).

I wish they would hurry up and give us a new 2d Castlevania. This wait is killing me. No info, no screens, just a (possible) title.

Also, I know this sounds like much, but would it kill them to come up with something…new? If ain’t broke, don’t fix it yada yada, but it seems that the games are just the same thing over and over again. I’;; play the new 2d one, but I wish it had some new innovations.

i liked HoD… :frowning:

If SOTN had a difficulty setting…

the replayability would be infinite.

Btw When are they gonna do the one based off Julius Belmont? Since it’s the last battle with the last Dracula reincarnation it should be the hardest one yet…

Level 9999 Dracula ftw, and the ultimate future loss as well.

SotN has the room glitching which adds a LOT of replayability imho.

Handheld CVs(HoD excluded), are like cheese pizza. You know exactly what you are going to get, but you know its gonna be great. SOTN is one amazing game, and the formula has provided some of my favorite video games. Still, it would be nice for some new features. We’ve been playing basically the same game six times now(to varying degree of quality).

I’d buy another 2d CV in a heartbeat, but some new features would make me even happier.

Random bump kinda

I decided to give Dawn of Sorrow another chance, and I starting to like it a bit more. I’m trying to improve my katana, now I can just find that Barbariccia so I can get that Osafune. Its bad enough these Katanas are kinda slow, its just that its gonna take FOREVER for me to get a good sword since all I got is a Cutlass

^ As soon as I found out you could use a katana in that game, that was the weapon I stuck with. I got probably all the highest weapons, just to collect them, but I loved the katana. It is kinda slow, but I like how quickly he slashes. The one thing I didn’t like about it, is that one of the last katanas is cooler than the final version. A blade red with demon’s blood is much cooler than a blade with some lightning in my opinion…

Yeah, I got the ultimate katana, and the one before this one was cooler. Demon blood > Lightning  Still, its pretty awesome how teh Super Attack completly destroys some bosses. Now I got to knock a good 30 seconds off my Boss Rush mode if I ever want Death’s Tunic.

Oh, and I take back all the bad things I said about Dawn of Sorrow(cept for the Seal System, fuck that shit). Its easily just as good, if not better than Aria of Sorrow.

i didnt think the seal system was that bad. just dont try to do that shit on the train

I think a lot of people didn’t realize that once the seal gets going, the timer didnt’ start until you actually touched the screen. So there was a lot of people scrambling to do it and messing up which is why everybody hates the seal system.

With that said and done, fuck touch screen usaage in castlevania.

Its just so obviously gimmicky. Those stupid ice puzzles suck too. Although having a map out constantly is brilliant.

I liked using Seals. I did not like shattering the blocks.

The only real problem I found was not being able to do menu things on the fly with the touch screen. PoR kind of alleviated the frustration with some actual involvement with the touch screen such as sending your character to a position you wanted them to be, but really I wanted to be able to touch touch touch while switching up between weapons and souls/helpers/whatever. I know that CV is a series that doesn’t lend itself to needing to do that, in fact it might make it too frustrating to have it where you need to have 3 arms but still, it’d be fun.

OC

I’m indifferent about the touch screen gimmics. For how much people actually had to endure them, I’m surprised so much complaining exists.

What I really liked about DoS and AoS was the soul system. Sure it takes FOREVER to get some of the souls, but some of the animations were so cool. Abbadon was probably my favorite. Bosses didn’t stand a chance.

I just finished Curse of Darkness (Xbox) last Wednesday (first run through, not sure if I’ll play it much more, just too many other games to spend time with). I didn’t find it so bad, just confusing in a few ways (I usually don’t play any RPG’s, also I thought the stealing lock-on was the I.D. lock-on until the last two bosses…). I forged new devil I.D.'s back at the shop, but didn’t quite understand I could trade them in right away. Also I thought swords were the main weapon to equip, and spending more time “leveling up” with them was the best thing to do but that wasn’t always true either (esp to evolve IDs in new ways you need to use different weapon types). I’m definitely more of an action type game fan of the Castlevanias vs RPG type but the mix is interesting. btw I think I read on Wikipedia that that time guy with the stovepipe hat was a real person?

I thought the gameplay was actually pretty good, even comparable to Symphony of the Night. Over the course of playing, my controller’s left trigger started to go a little haywire (resets the view to direction your character’s facing), but still I managed to get decent camera angles nonetheless. Somehow the vomitting monsters were cool but the cut scenes with the main bad guy was kind of nauseating.

i hated DoS…
I just finished PoR (getting everything except the level 1 cap item)
that is all

The Muramasa in DoS is absolute pwnage. However I disagree with your assessment, grandmaster samurai-style shockwave slashes >>> stupid blood slashes easy.
