The Castlevania Thread

Again, I’m way too tired for this discussion. So yea, awesome. You don’t purchase games that were previously 2D games. That’s excellent for you.

Just got the Soul of Bat in SotN. FUCK YEA.

As probably one of the biggest 2d Metroidvania geek you’ll find, I thought Curse of Darkness wasn’t bad at all. Fuck, it was AWESOME. So yeah, I think a good 3d metroidvania is very possible.

I just have to say one thing

I enjoy castlevania 64 more than those 2 3D vanias igarashi made for the ps2.

he sucks for 3D ADVENTURES, so repetitive

i remember as a kid CAstlevania 64 used to creep me out. Esp that lil girl who watered the plants with blood. wtf

I love using sequence breaks in SotN, my favorite being the ability to get the second ring you need from Maria without getting the Spike Breaker armor beforehand. I can clear the entire game in about 45 minutes flat on average because that saves me the trouble of going down to the Catacombs.

Catacombs has some of the best bosses though. That big mass of falling bodies is one of the innovative and funnest boss fights in any castlevania ever

Yeah, even if it is easy as hell to kill. :stuck_out_tongue: Even easier for somebody doing a speed run, since it’s highly likely they’ve used the trick to bypass Death and keep their weapons. Alucard Shield+Shield Rod as has been stated=rape.

See this is why I wish sword of dawn had more power. Alucard Shield Rod combo is just too good, but fighting those monsters with the Dawn Warriors, and to have the Dawn Warriors win, that would be fun to watch, well, for a little bit, then itd get kinda boring, but… fun while it lasts!

Or better yet, lessee somebody use the Dawn Warriors to take out the Galamoth. That’d take all day. :stuck_out_tongue:

Even without the Alucard Shield+Rod, the starting equipment alone makes things a hell of a lot easier. Three hits and the first Doppleganger is gone, two if the first or second is a critical.

God I remember Galamoth. That guy really felt like more of a chore than anything, well, except for trying to get a lapus lazuli to drop.

Ironically, Lapis Lazuli is one of the hardest things to get, and all it does is raise your luck.

Oh, and outside of super weapons and combos, Terminus Est works surprisingly well against Guardians (it does full damage instead of half on them because I guess they’re weak against Poison). It doesn’t actually poison them, though.

Hey was Lament of Innocence bad or was it just a one of those games you play for the story?

I’m definitely gonna try that when to go back to SotN to level up some more in my complete file. I’ve got two Ring of Varda items equipped (and two more in my inventory), so I’m curious as to how much damage it’s going to do to a Guardian altogether.

Oh, and, a funny thing happened a while back. A friend was going through as Richter, and he went straight to the inverted castle without killing at least half the bosses or picking up health powerups. He ran into the room with the Guardians, knowing they were there. I warned him not to step up to either of them and just leave the room, or bypass them by “flying”. He goes “Pfft.”, walks up and whip smacks one, barely doing damage. Damn thing slashes him once and he dies instantly, full health and all. I laughed so hard. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Personally, I thought Lament was pretty decent overall.

I liked the PS2 Castlevanias.

Has there been any confirmation that the leaked Castlevania pictures for the DS are legitimate or not? It would be interesting to play as a female protagonist on a Castlevania game. As far as I know, they’ve only done that twice.

I think those pics were confirmed to be fake.

Yea, those were hella fake, and confirmed to be fake awhile ago, thank goodness.

It wasn’t a bad game by any means, it was just… underwhelming. It’s just that, when playing through the game, it leaves you wanting more. It doesn’t satisfy the gaming appetite, so to speak.

And the story wasn’t really that good.

Also, since those screens are confirmed fake, that better mean that at the moment they are working on a War of 1999 game!

I’ll just say… don’t go in expecting sotn in 3d.

I found LoI to be entertaining, but unfortunatly, a bit too easy. Hard mode was a lot better, but you have to unlock it first. And the game has very little replay value.
