The Castlevania Thread

I had an epiphany as to why Sonia was retconned from the storyline.

It’s so simple.

She’s female. When she finally got to Dracula’s chamber, he’d just get up and push her down the stairs. BAM! No more Belmont clan.

Iga knew what was up :looney:

They need to make a next-gen Castlevania for the 360 following the later adventures of Julius Belmont since he hasn’t had a game dedicated to him…and then Konami needs to backdoor with some meter building by releasing a 360 version starring Alucard the remake of SOTN with next gen graphics, and a larger castle. 199+Hours of gameplay, 6 different characters to choose from, several difficulty settings, online leaderboard, downloadable costumes/comtent, music written from Square, FROTHES AT MOUTH!!!..I’m sorry…got hype for no apparent reason at all.

Harmony of Dissonance wasn’t that bad to me. Circle of the Moon was awesome, I’d love to see them re-do that one with awesome SOTN-style sprites and such like they used in the other GBA/DS games. Unfortunately, it won’t happen due to it being retconned from the story.

CotM is really good. Had a good soundtrack as well. Pretty cool collecting those DSS cards. Thunderbird summoning ftw.

The worst part of CotM was retarded card drop percentages.

I think I finished with like…4 or 5 cards only.

is Castlevania 64 any good? :wonder:

Heh, I only needed 2 and they were only at the Battle Arena.

Well there are poeple who liked it:

I never played it so I don’t know.

Alot of love for Circle of the Moon, here. I played a bit of it earlier before I went to bed. Seems ok, it’s just the damn sprites are sooo fucking tiny. I’m blind enough as it is. Straining my eyes and shit. I’ll have to run it through an emu, and double res that bitch or something.

Yes it is. 64, and Legacy of Darkness. Give them a try. With a decent computer, and a good controller setup (keys will suck for it), you can play them perfectly in an emulator, like Project 64.

If I’m not mistaken, a next-gen 360 CV is in fact on the way (along with an already announced DS CV).

but i owns a ps3.

; 3;

Hopefully, it goes multiplatform. I would rather play it on the PS3, myself.

Correction.

Castlevania: Order of Shadows, is probably the real candidate for being the worst CV ever made, with perhaps Haunted Castle (Arcade game) being the close runner-up.

I’m probably going to play SoTN again this weekend, because of this thread.

I finished COTM and AOS, but I haven’t played HOD.
Is it worth playing?
AOS was kinda cool because after you finished it, you could get wierd weapons like Death’s Scythe, and a Hangun.

Anything cool in HOD?

:u: No.

Now the question: Awesome 2D one, or crappy 3D one?

I’m hoping for a fuck-win 3D one. We’ve done all that I would like to be done with the 2D ones. It’s time to level up, already.

3D one that was actually like the 2D ones would be nice. For example, taking the way you play Aria of Sorrow with the Metroidvania castle, hidden stuff, powerups and all…and putting that in 3D.

Definetely want the DS one.

Let me guess, because it has T5DR lol.

Me too, for the controller. I cant imagine how it must suck trying specials in SoTN on 360. Cant do a Hadoken in HF for fucks sake.

No NEVER. I skipped the N64 one PS2 ones because they were 3D…they might be good for all I know, but like Mega Man, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, need to stay 2D.

I hate getting into these discussions, but saying “insert game only belongs/works in 2D” is the most retarded thing, ever. It’s as if you, or whomever truly believes what has been done in 2D, can only be done, or work in 2D games. Castlevania has two distinct “games”. One is linear, via “stages/levels”. The other is heavy on exploring large open areas, and attaining items and abilities to gain access to previously unreachable areas.

Are you telling me Item collecting, and hack n slash gameplay is just out of reach of 3D based games? It’s not 1996 anymore. 3D games have come along along way, and what once couldn’t be done properly, or at all in in 3D, can now be done (with the proper developement team, of course).

And let’s not get started on games like Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter. That’s a whooole nothing topic, and I’m too tired for that shit.

My point is, there’s no reason why we can’t have an awesome 2D game line, AND a 3D one done right with Castlevania. And it’s not like there’s some sort of lack of 2D ones either. We’ve had alot, especially lately, with an upcoming one at that. You better believe the Next-Gen one is in fact, 3D and not 2D.

Here’s hoping it’s on PS3.

Nope. What has made a successful transition? All I can think of is Mario and GTA. Not even Sonic, other than the first 3D one.

Thats fine. Its just means I look at other games.

Didn’t say that. I have Heavenly Sword, and just beat Uncharted, theres plenty of item collecting in one and one’s a hack&slash. Thats not the point, just that for that certain series, SoTN is the game on which anything called Castlevania is judged. I KNOW without playing them that the 3D ones dont touch that game. The DS and GBA one are closer, and therfore playable.

Well I didnt come for an argument in the first place. I had an opinion to say.

They can make whatever they want. I just know that I personally wont buy it. The DS title, I know I’m getting. Unless they try to make it 3D, which has been a trend on DS lately.
