The Castlevania Thread

Yeah I’d like them to take that original concept of jumping and whipping and developing that. I want the game to have some old school challenge as well, screw the pussies who can’t handle it. I’m going to go to another series to show how a simple additions can change things up, while keep the game true to its roots.

Ghost n goblins-In this game u can jump and attack left and right

Ghouls n ghosts-This adds the ability to throw weapons up and down

Super Ghouls n ghosts-Removes ability to throw weapons up and down, adds ability to double jump

Simple additions like that can make the gameplay very fresh while keeping the game true to its roots. Like what if the belmont could whip up, down, left and right? Maybe holding the whip attack button allows the flame whip attack on release (more damage). Perhaps there could be a way to disarm or trip enemies with the whip. There are a million ways the developers can go and still stay true.

Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood and Super Castlevania 4 were not Castlevania games?
Ok.

I want a game that plays like any of these or a mixture of them.
Preferably a fucking long one, on a real console.

Fuck at this point I don’t even care anymore if they make it 2.5D instead of hand-drawn sprites.
Just give me something that is not handheld and not Metroidvania (exploration and multiple pathes are good, RPG shit for retards is not).

I wouldn’t even give a fuck if it was 3D to be honest, as long as it keeps the core gameplay intact.
You know like Mario. You still jump over obstacles, onto platforms, collect powerups and try to make it to end of the stage alive.

LoS is a mixture of God of War and Shadow of the Colossus with Castlevania just being tacked on as means of selling the game better.

Do you have to make difficult jumps in that game? Are you still planning which subweapon helps you with which boss or annoying stage enemy? Free roaming or at least multiple paths through the game? Roasts in fucking walls?
Of course not because you’re playing God of Shadows and not a Castlevania game.

Fuck that shit!

You are, and I’m thankful people who think like you don’t have any sway over the course of the series. I agree with good gameplay, stage design, and tunes. But the game industry has grown and there are so many more releases now that you need SOMETHING to draw people in. It sucks, but look at Bayonetta. The game’s an absoute gem, but how many people know about it?

LoS1 is a fantastic game if you take it as a whole. It’s got a better story than Bayonetta, better action than GoW, and better atmosphere than most 3d hack & slash games. Games HAVE to go 3d these days. And while I LOVE the 64 games (I’m not lying here either, they’re amazing games if you forgive the rough edges) I can admit that while they’re the truest 3D representation of what Castlevania was, games like those won’t sell in this day and age. Times change, and if you want to compete in the marketplace, you have to play the game so to speak. I’d rather have new CV games that “play the game” than have them throw up their hands and admit that the series is dated and that it’s pointless to make any new games.

You can play Bloodlines and games like that until you die. They exist, and the release of LoS didn’t make them disappear. You don’t even have to acknowledge that LoS exists if you don’t want to. Depending on how old you are, it’s quite possible that I’ve been playing Castlevania games longer than you’ve been alive, and because of that, I’m thankful they didn’t decide to shallowly repackage the same game over and over again Madden/Call Of Duty style. Do I like them all? No. But I’m glad to have the choice.

I mean that’s your opinion and I don’t want to say that you’re wrong, but you’re wrong.

Exactly what am I wrong about?

You haven’t had too make calculated jumps, or give a shit about your sub weapons in Castlevania for YEARS, this is hardly an LOS issue, in fact LOS is the first time I’ve bothered with my sub weapons in a Long ass time.

When SOTN came out smart platforming died in this series.

^ While I love SotN I have to agree with that.

Since Castlevanian is dormant at the moment how do you all feel about these games?

U don’t have to go 3d. New Super Mario bros. Wii sold over 28 million copies, Rayman Legends is an amazing modern game that happens to be 2d. Super meat boy made a big splash as a 2d game. U can’t regurgitate the same games, but that has nothing with being 2d or 3d. There are infinite possibilities in either.

The worst thing to ever come out of the 3D boom was the arrested development of 2D gaming.

Why is 3rd Strike still the pinnacle of 2D sprite animation fifteen years later?

First game looks interesting, Slain looks like Volgar the Viking which I didn’t like at all.

3rd Strike is not the pinnacle of 2d sprite animation.

Do we have to get Po a copy of Dragon’s Crown as well?

@blufang‌ The rules that apply to every other series don’t apply to Mario. In the minds of most casual gamers 3d>2d and publishers want to sell games so they make games they think people will buy. I love 2d games, but I also understand why they don’t make a lot of them, which is a shame.

I own Dragon’s Crown and Muramasa.

I still miss my Belmonts and I miss traditional 2D squash and stretch animation.

Castlevania is dead and Daivd Cocks killed it.

I understand, however I think if the 2d visuals are done right they can draw the casual audience as well. I’m not talking about a retro 2d look, like nes or snes…I’m talking using the full graphical prowess of modern consoles and or pc to make gorgeous 2d graphics with original artistic flair. Rayman Legends looks absolutely spectacular and is probably a big reason why despite being 2d it sold very well. (Origins also sold well and looked really good).

I need to play Muramasa. It didn’t work on Dolphin last time I tried it, but maybe it’s better now.

Let me know if you manage to get it working properly on a emulator. I have yet to try it out myself :grinning:
