They could have thought Mayweather would get penalized more for the hugging. I think it was pretty obvious Manny was taking more than he was giving though, they should have seen that. Manny gave some good ones but ultimately he DID get hit more times than he hit Mayweather.
I think Manny just wasnât strong enough. When I was boxing and I had somebody against the ropes, I could land maybe two or three heavy shots and break his guard and deal some damage before moving away. Manny was just throwing those flurry punches that looked like mosquito bites. Those punches didnât look like they carried his momentum.
Thatâs what Iâm saying. Floyd is Floyd. Heâs gonna do whatever is necessary to win. Itâs the opponents job to make this dude up his tempo and engage. I got respect for Maidana because he said fuck all of that and put up a great performance in their 1st fight(If it was a little dirty). Mannyâs whole gimmick was throwing a million punches and instead he gets suckered into a chess match and throws less punches than Mayweather.
I just rewatched the fight for the 3rd time and I sort of see why Hollyfield felt Manny should have won that fight. While it is true that floyd did score more punch points, every single time manny was about to get in floyd ended up hugging him. 3 punch combos were paused by a hug. What floyd did great with out a doubt was dodging and dashing out of the ropes however the whole hugging thing was with out a doubt smart but really dirty imo.
i actually think youre supposed to get warned and then points taken if you clinch too much, i saw coaches warning against it when i was training. you just dont see it happen in the pro level i guess lol
He was actually one of the most passive opponents floyd ever fought. Cotto, Maidana and Mosley were more
It is a fair tactic but those clinchings had punches to them if you rewatch it⌠also it was done every single time pacquiao was coming in with 3. It was a brilliant tactic no doubt but when it is overdone with side punches on top thatâs already subject to warning.
Boxing refs are the most infuriating group of people ever. Theyâre in charge of these grown ass men who know the rules and donât lay down the law proper when they purposefully fuck up. Drives me out of my damn mind.
Thatâs my point. Even Maidana was like screw it and let his hands go. Manny simply did not fight like Manny usually fights. I believe it was his corner that had him chopped and screwed. Watching the gameplan that mannyâs camp had get destroyed was interesting. Manny should at least went for broke on the last round.
Itâs against the rules, which makes it dirty. Itâs on the same level as keeping your elbow up so it clips them if you whiff a hook or slipping in a backhand. You can get away with it, but that doesnât make it âfair.â It most certainly is dirty.
*The clinching in the early rounds were pretty damn smart by Floyd since it was able to keep Manny from establishing any momentum. But the part that I donât see anyone talking about that was sneaky psychological ploy on Mayweathers part was touching gloves after clinches and after every round within the first 2-3 rounds. Not only was Mayweather breaking up Pacmans Rhythm but he also was trying to take some of the aggression out of Pacman by âshowing a sign of sportsmanshipâ.
It wont be a rematch. Mayweather has never taken rematches from any greats, heâs always one and done. Mayweatherâs retirement will be something like the winner of Trout and Mundine, just a tomato can he can beat on to look explosive and entertaining in his final fight.
Itâs not like Floyd did anything new. He did this same shit against Canelo, Guerrero, twice against Maidana. He did what he always does, and instead of making $30-40 million for it he made 150+ million because a whole bunch of people who donât know shit about boxing thought Pacquiao was a good guy because the TV said so and could knock evil wife-beating Floyd out.
And they were wrong. Floyd is just a straight up smart businessman.
