Don’t you like when the people who don’t know shit about boxing talk the loudest? I’m seeing so many “Pacman won. He was the better boxer and had far more skill.”, “Mayweather is so cocky, all he does is grab”. Huh? Pacman just throws out lunge punches to hype the crowd up and basically kept the same approach all throughout the fight. That ain’t skill. And for some odd reason, people are mad that Floyd didn’t stand around…and take those hits. Shit is funny.
having a injured right shoulder is huge though regarding performance.
I know when my right shoulder acts up my right arm is powerless.
that said, we don’t know just how “injured” his right shoulder was.
I said eight rounds Manny strikes, twelve rounds Floyd on points. Well it went twelve.
I think Manny wasn’t aggressive enough, I think he didn’t box relentlessly enough trying to bust down his guard. Manny should have puffed himself out trying to get damage as he was always going to win on damage, not points.
I think Manny’s corner screwed him up. They told him he was winning because he was the aggressor when it doesn’t work that way. I’m in the corner that wants a rematch but at the same time it wont happen. Mayweather has always been a one and done when it comes to greats. He’ll probably get a tin like Mundine or Trout for his last fight.
Yeah that’s what was annoying me. I expecting Mayweather to be Mayweather, but I wasn’t expecting Pacquiao to be what I saw.
There were times he got in clean then just backdashed for literally no reason. Like don’t clock the dude then back away after spending 2/3rds of the round trying to get in.
At first I thought Freddie Roach’s strat was to dial it down the first six rounds then get Manny to go super-aggro the last six. In the sixth round Manny did rev it up a bit, but then dialed it down. Even in the 11th and 12th Roach wasn’t even telling him to change up. What the hell was that?
Anyway, props to Mayweather. With the gulf in speed and skill I saw tonight, no version of Pacman could beat him. I knew this was the likely outcome, but still, it’s good to dream sometimes…
yeah I think Roach dropped the ball on instructing Manny honestly. I always knew Mayweather would take it, I was just hoping it would be a bit more exciting. Manny had no answers and really Floyd laid waste to the second best boxer with ease. I don’t think what some of the casual fans are not appreciating with Mayweather is that he is showing you what true high level boxing looks like. I mean it was like nigga took the seal off and showed his true form in a sense. Floyd was being floyd, but at the same time he was just putting on a clinic. Like dude literally showed us everything he knew about boxing in 12 rounds.
Mayweather was just the smarter fighter on the day, Manny’s aggression didn’t pay off, some of his lunges just gave me flashbacks of the Marquez fight. I thought it would just be a matter of time before he face planted the canvas but as each round passed it was evident Mayweather was looking to beat him by decision.
Don’t believe the shoulder thing, not when he has been flexing for the cameras all weekend.
Manny shouldn’t be too disappointed he went out and obviously gave it his all.
Ninja Edit: That dude at was interviewing Manny in the ring was a dickhead. Did you spend even 5 minutes thinking of good questions or did you just wing it??
That shit killed all my hype. I need to go watch Avengers and get my fill.
I expected as much but I was just hoping for Floyd to have been riled up and go more aggro but as the fight approached closer and closer you could see how Floyd just became so chilled to it all.
A big emphasis going into this fight was Floyd’s ability to adapt so Freddie’s plan was to have multiple strategies. You could actually see that at play: in the opening rounds Pacquiao was reserved, in the mid rounds he tried increasing the volumes and unloading when Mayweather got to the ropes, and in the later stages he dialed the tempo down.
What actually happened in the ring was a result of their boxing IQs. In the opening rounds, Pacquiao probably intended to steal a couple of the rounds but Mayweather took the initiative. In the middle rounds Pacquiao probably hoped to build a lead and surprise Mayweather; Mayweather adapted the round after Pacquiao picked up his intensity and put more rounds in the bank. In the later stage, Pacquiao started trying to pick his spots as though he had the lead; it would have worked out better had Mayweather been down on the cards but he wasn’t and so Pacquiao’s focus should have been on clawing his way back into the fight.
His biggest fuck up, in my opinion, was approaching the fight with multiple game plans. He should have just focused on all of his strengths and tried to iron out any creases.
I didn’t find the fight boring. I’m not against fights with fireworks but I prefer to see the surgical side of his things. You don’t exactly to see someone be so measured, calculating and in control on a daily basis.
On the radio they were talking about the whole weekend, many people would have been caught up in all the hype, “Fight of the Century” etc. But ultimately those that don’t follow Boxing but still bought into the hype will have probably have been turned off, it’s why sports like MMA are becoming so popular, even the undercards will entertain people and people know far less about that than boxing.
Expect Dana White to be trolling Boxing fans for the rest of the week (once he gets over Jon Jones fiasco)
I think a big reason why manny wasn’t aggressive (other than floyds defense) is because of floyds right hand. Floyd may not be a heavy hitter BUT he does have a strong right hand that stops people from being too aggressive should he hand it or a counter right. It didn’t help Manny that Floyd also had superior feet and head movement, I think it would of been more interesting if manny was a counter puncher but thats not his forte.
Manny clocked him hard and had him on the ropes. He decided not to gas himself, to back off. Everyone was saying it was smart at the time but if you’re not getting in and you get the guy on the ropes, go ham, even if you’re only hitting his guard, hit his guard, bust it up. You’re not scoring points but if you can give him a dead arm it’s worth getting a bit puffed.
