The Boxing Thread

If Manny loses, people will still love him. If Floyd loses, the general public that doesn’t know that much about boxing (eg the Skip Bayless’ of the world) will call him a fraud.

It’s a fucking wash to call Floyd a joke when he’s bonafide hof

And his songs will knock you out.

I wonder how much Mayweather paid Dan Wetzel to write this article: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/floyd-mayweather-trying-new-approach-after-years-of-embracing-bad-guy-role-013255300-boxing.html

does the Philippines know? isnt that like illegal to not be christian lol.

also the manny cartel trolls are in full fuckin force online. they got some video of manny hittin a speedbag as fast speeds and money is going slow on it…and somehow its indicative of the fight.

did manny like gain a million new fans this week who never seen floyd fight, cuz the trolls seems to be going overboard.

It seems that both Floyd and Manny stans are going full retard right now. I guess because they want to rationalize why the opponent is trash and what not, but lets be real. Boxing fans have a better understanding of what is going on which transcends liking Floyd or Pac. The know what each fighter brings and are curious to see how it all plays out.

There was an article earlier today about how Floyd never watches tape of his opponents. I am sure he doesn’t but I bet you his trainers do watch fight tape.

My biggest concern for Manny is that he will fall into the various trap setups that Floyd has. Floyd is very good at walking his opponent into traps, and that can prove to be frustrating for Manny.

It hurts to admit but Philippines is a bandwagon country. I have the urge to suplex anyone here shouting pinoy pride.

lmfao alot of fighters dont watch opponents. but the trainers obviously make sure the fighter is well prepared. was the article seemingly pro moneymayweather?

i might agree if it wasnt for the fact that the pope nearly caused riots n shit.

*Sounds like bandwagoners partaking in the climate of the megafight. It’s much easier for the average Joe who doesn’t follow the sport to back the underdog. It’s not exclusive to boxing. *

It was Complex. So they are like not to be taken seriously. But the comments were hilarious. I can only imagine what the mma scene is like.

btw we have all seen the bottle boxing amir khan video right?..how is it viral…are people that retarded?

Yeah Floyd has always said that he doesn’t watch his opponents’ fights, but Roger studies them so it’s the same effect . Pretty much the same way a girl that is in ridiculously good shape will say she eats whatever she wants and then you see her barely touching the crust on a cheesecake talking about she’s pigging out.

For all you gamblers out there, it looks like the betting props were just released.

I can’t remember Manny ever not being Christian and I’ve been a fan of the guy for a fair few years.

People do come out of the woodworks on forums for big stuff like this but I’ve been boxing amateur for eight years and watched fights since Tyson as a kid.

Real boxing fans do know how to put the bias aside, especially guys that have fought because they understand the mechanics of it. It’s the casual guys on the news that don’t follow the sport that say the real ridiculous shit but they don’t care about facts, they just want ratings.

Also, here’s one for the Floyd fans out there saying he’s the greatest defensive boxer ever. Dude’s defence is his strength, he doesn’t have wars, he doesn’t take punishment but meet Nicolino Locche,

He smoked throughout his whole career, didn’t diet, he just fought at his natural everyday body weight. He fought 136 times. Not 47. He won 117 and he still holds the record for most time spent in the ring because he only knocked 14 guys out. Pretty much all Locche did was dodge and bolo punch and no one could crack him. He was a defensive savant like there has never been and probably will never be. Yes, a lot of his fights were against Argentinians in Argentina, but this fight here was against the American champion for the WBA belt in Japan. He also beat a lot of international greats of his era like Kid Pambele. He’s the Ring’s lineal champion from 68 - 72.

Locche was without a doubt the best defensive boxer that has ever lived.

This is real talk. I remember why I took up boxing was so I could understand the sport better. Then I had my first spar. I never knew a pain like getting punched through your guard. But I started to learn a bit more about how spacing works and everything. So when I watch boxing matches, I tend to look at it a bit more in depth. Similar to watching fighting game tourneys on stream.

Also I remember when Shane Mosley fought Floyd and caught him with a good one and actually made him buckle. I think if it was Manny who caught Floyd like that, it would have been over. It would have been a flurry of punches and Manny would have kept Floyd in a state of confusion/survival/panic.

My Dad was never a boxing fan, he’s very anti-violence and sees it as muscle heads swinging fists. It was when I realized that it was more than that, more than brute force that I really became a fan because I was a stick of a kid, tall, but thin enough to blow over. I’m in good shape now but as a kid I was scrawny. Learning I could still hold my own using my head and hitting better if Iearned how punches work is what got me hooked. I’ve known other kids to say similar stuff about karate, well for me, it was boxing, largely because of Tyson and movies like Raging Bull and Rocky. My only regret is I wish I started it earlier not when I left school, if I started young in the big city, not a country town with an unsupportive father, I might have seen a career not just a hobby.

I hear ya. I was actually doing Karate and Boxing at the same time. I left Karate for boxing, because I just didn’t find a challenge in the Karate school I was attending. Because I was also training in boxing I was really getting me in great shape fast. My dad and grandpa were huge boxing fans and I was used to watching it growing up. Tyson was just a monster of a man and I remember wanting to be powerful like that. I was on the opposite end of the spectrum for beig a fat kid and being made of for being slow, etc. Funny thing is that I was actually quick and strong for my size. I wish I would have started boxing while in middle school or something because I most definitely could have made a career out of it. Before moving to Chicago, i think my coach was training me to go pro in a couple of years. Though he wouldn’t have told me, I think the way he trained me was with that in mind. Granted I was only boxing to get in shape.

I’ve always been very fast. I’m still very fast. I guess I have a quick metabolism. I used to be pretty underweight, now I’m just healthy. I got picked on for other stuff in school mostly like playing video games (yes, people got bullied for that once upon a time) and just hanging with the wrong people, listening to the wrong music, you know how it goes. More people have been there than not whether they admit it or not.

I’m looking at taking what I know about boxing over to MMA and learning to wrestle. I see that as a way for me to still have a shot at a few pro fights. I’m only in my late 20s, probably never be a champ but everyone needs goals. Helps you be a healthier, happier person instead of just sitting on your ass.
