Not all experiments work. How often in a fighting game does a new strategy or pocket character blow up in your face. Itâs the same in a sport like boxing. There are only so many legal ways to score points or counter what your opponent does, to pull something magic out that a guy like Manny hasnât seen⌠I dunno. I actually have NO idea how Manny is being so underrated going into this, probably because Floyd is American, thatâs all I can think. Same with how Wlad doesnât get treated like other all time heavyweight greats despite his ridiculous knockout record. Itâs a trend with American boxing fans for sure.
For the longest time people thought you had to turtle Manny, to wear him out because if you went in trading shots you lose. Manny isnât a mindless brawler though, heâs a friggen politician in parliament, heâs very intelligent and always manages to open up fighters. The last guy to just come at Manny and try drop him⌠well watch it,
Straight rope-a-dope in the middle of the fight and was still moving fast / hitting hard right into the 12th round where he got the TKO.
I do agree Mannyâs boxing IQ is very underrated. Because of his FOB English, and lack of artful responses people actually just think heâs some simple, but spirited country bumpkin who can âpunch reeeal goodâ. As if pure athleticism is a surefire way to becoming a champion in several weight classes.
Same goes for Tyson, people mostly remark on his physical prowess and rarely on his ring awareness.
British media is way more one-sided in favoring Mayweather than Americans.
Look at it like this:
Fighter A is going to fight Fighter B. Fighter A is highly entertaining and generally well-liked by almost everybody. Fighter B is generally considered an asshole, but heâs undefeated over 47 fights. Fighters A and B have many mutual opponents that they both handled relatively decisivelyâŚexcept one against whom Fighter A fought an epic tetralogy where all but one of the decisions remains hotly argued over, the exception being the most recent fight which ended in a brutal KO of Fighter A. Fighter B also fought Fighter Aâs rival and easily dominated him.
Who do you expect people to favor? Oh yeah, Fighter B is also physically bigger and significantly taller.
Not saying Pac has no hope or even that itâd be particularly surprising if he won, but if youâre seriously wondering why more people arenât going with Manny on this one then that speaks much more to your personal bias than anyone elseâs.
This is in vegas, i donât need to explain that. And Mayweather does not give a shit about what people think about his wins⌠what manny did so many years ago is irrelevant now.
Klitschko - Tyson Fury in the make.
Seems more exciting than most of his other fights, at least to me, fan of Fury. Like Klitschko said, Fury is big.
Any Irish / British posters here?
The Mayweather/Marquez fight was contracted to to be at 144, Floyd came in at 145, so he had to pay Marquez whatever the penalty wasâŚas far as the belts go, it was under the welterweight limit (147) so the sanctioning bodies give no fucksâŚalthough, thinking back, I donât think Marquez had any WW title to defend since at that point he was still fighting at JWW.
lol if you believed he came at 145. That nigga was huge at that fight. Any body could tell that the weight diff was not close just by the mass of the person.
Weight cutting has existed in boxing since forever. Just like wrestling or judo.
A guy like Floyd can get the best nutritionist and a team of people to get him peaking before the fight. Get him to weigh ins. Then get an iv in him an proceed to hydrate him back to top form in a day
Fighter B also hasnât fought Fighter A who textbook, can beat him. You weigh it up, you analyse it, itâs not just wins and losses. Ali was 55 - 2, he ended 56 - 5. Mayweather might have 47 wins undefeated but heâs also OLDER than Manny and Manny has 57 wins and not many losses.
Itâs less about the cold hard record, more about American media just buying what Mayweather is selling because heâs a black American, he fits the bill for a boxing great. Whoâs ever heard of an Asian great? Thatâs Manny.
