The Boxing Thread

Interesting analysis from the legends. I’m so hyped for this fight!

After watching this, I think Mayweather will win it. I always thought he would win (I don’t want him to), but I just foresee Floyd adapting within the first 4-5 rounds. I hope Roach has been working on something special to bring him down.

Its funny how this is basically Ippo v Miyata in the flesh, lol.

I liken it more to Ippo vs Sawamura.

The scrappy and humble little underdog with heart and the love of many, vs an egotistical and manipulative, but gifted technician whose natural style proves him to be a favorite to win. Oh and he assaulted a woman as well.

It’s not just his jab, it’s his left hook as well. Wlad’s defence isn’t just holding, he has one hell of a chin. He cops the odd stray hit because he’s not super light on his feet but it doesn’t matter, he’s made of steel. Him and Vitali both have looked indestructible in the ring.

As for Wlad’s right, it’s how he finishes fights, he disorientates them with his left and then pounds them into a pulp with it. He didn’t get a shot to do that against Jennings. Credit to Jennings, he went 12 rounds. Wlad has 53 knock outs so going the distance against him says a lot.

The biggest criticism of Wlad anyone can lay is how little he uses body shots. He’s 6’6 though, he’d need to bend a lot against a lot and that would make his head vulnerable.

Honestly, I think the only way Wlad will lose is if he gets swarmed and his ribs punished by a guy that can get under his reach and hit hard.

Mayweather adapting usually means counter punching with advanced shoulder roll stuff instead of defending traditionally. Manny is a VERY powerful southpaw though, I see Mayweather’s lead shoulder getting smashed if he tries it. Mayweather is a technician but the thing about Manny is that he not only has technical still, he has power and aggression, he’s like a brawler with a brain and it’s a very dangerous combo as his own achievements show.

Anyone that thinks Mayweather has a chance of knocking Manny out, watch Manny vs. Miguel Cotto. Unless something enormous has changed since then that was ridiculous. That was straight Ali vs Foreman.

I totally agree with the bold part.

ive allwayyys thought this. hahhaha

@orka soz on the delay, paddpower is irish/uk, am not in the states either but well its our go too other here. there is also www.ladbrokes.com and www.williamhill.com off the top of my head, they should work in the US np, your bank converts dollar to gbp automatically.

Dunno about shady reviews (lol I do they slate fuck out of everybody) so it may come form butthurt people but on the whole, ive never had an issue with em and I find they put out the best odds more than most, I dont gamble on the horse racing that often so am not sure on that but football/ufc/boxing they are legit. No sign up fee either just set up your account and do as much or as little as you want.

Mayweather doesn’t have the same counter techniques though. Pacquiao doesn’t do the Bob and Weave and weight transfer techniques and most of all Dempsey Roll.

Manny doesn’t just swing. He’s aggressive but not reckless. Watch how he handled Cotto.

As a Boxer a lot of stuff like rolls requires prediction. You don’t want to be bobbing when a left uppercut is coming from a southpaw. You work it in to avoid head shots but Manny in the past hasn’t seen red in that regard. He’s not a wild fighter, he’s just relentless with his combos and of course he can weight transfer well, it’s impossible to get the kind of power he has without it.

Mayweather is going to try out-box Manny technically. Manny is going to try drop him, physically. I’m not sure Floyd has the power to convince a guy like Manny not to go for stuff like rips. That’s how I see it ending, I see Mayweather’s ribs getting crushed. I think if it gets past the first six to eight rounds it will be a completely different fight though and Mayweather will win.

Don’t be shocked when Mayweather walks Manny down. Mayweather has been fighting people that come into the ring outweighing him almost a good 20 pounds heavier while Manny has only fought smallish JWW’s or fighters in general. The Last real Welter he fought was Clottey. Floyd has put on muscle and power for this fight saying that this is the first fight he is the bigger guy in for a long time. Manny bout to get hurt.

@FrostyAU, I agree that Manny will be a tough opponent for Floyd. I think If Floyd can adapt and switch up then it can be troublesome for pac. Manny has great footwork and hand speed to match, along with power. I think Roach has something up his sleeve though, and I think when Floyd fought Maidana the first time was basically the key to how to take him down. Manny is more than capable to bring Floyd down, but he will have to be an issue for Floyd every single round. He can’t let Floyd resort to turtle mode, because turtlers love to turtle.

As far as the Wlad/Jennings fight, Wlad was holding a shit ton. i know he has more to it, but it was a boring ass fight and he should have been deducted a point sooner for holding. Doesn’t take anything away from him, but it just wasn’t a hype fight is all.

About the HBO preview thing: Mayweather vs Pacquiao At Last

Is that the whole thing, or is it a cut down version? Didn’t expect them to put it up for free.

JMM being fluent in english and being so eloquent was the most surprising part

Floyd gloves for Pacman.

Wasn’t Mayweather the bigger guy during his fight with Marquez? I will seriously be pissed if Mayweather pulls that shit off again and the mayweather fanboys start glorifying him regardlessly.

I want Pacman to win but lets be real, Mayweather is gonna 1 sided destroy this dude.

Pulls what shit off again? And yeah, Marquez was the last time Floyd fought someone that wasn’t bigger/stronger than him.

I really have this feeling that Mayweather will show something new. I actually think that the chances of Mayweather showing something we have never seen him show before is greater than the chances of Many showing something we have never seen him before. I liked Foreman’s take the most.

I’m guessing he means missing weight.

And I don’t even want to imagine the consequences if someone comes over weight. IIRC they usually get like an 1 or 2 hours to burn it off anyways if someone did come into the weigh-in at the over weight. Besides that there is no conspiracy here. He missed a catch weight for a useless tuneup fight against Marquez that wasn’t meant to do anything besides generate some interest in Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Zatalcon you do realize he gets stripped of both of his Welter Weight titles and this becomes a useless fight if he misses weight right? Why would he want to sully his own victory and have people telling him that he only won because he hatched some plot to come in over weight and dominate? If that’s the case then Manny has missed weight before in his career as well. He was stripped in the Singsurat fight for missing weight which was also his 2nd loss. It’s really one of the least possible thing’s to be concerned about.
