The Boxing Thread

Haven’t watched anything since the Floyd Mayweather fight. I might try to get back into boxing. The result of that Floyd fight though I thought was ridiculous. That should’ve been a tie.

he already beat cotto, so…

hypothetically, if floyd went up to 160 and got a belt off someone credible, in my mind he’d have a near bulletproof case for p4p GOAT. that said, i doubt we’ll ever see that considering he’s not even a big welterweight and could easily make 140 if he really wanted to.

LET’S GO, COTTO!

I’m going for Martinez but I like both.

I think Martinez has this. Cotto is out of his depth with this fight. Granted he is tough as hell, he is facing someone who has been dominant for a long time. Hopefully Martinez’s knees are okay.

That wasn’t expected this early…

Holy SHit.

Going to be amazing if Martinez recovers from that first round and wins this…

LOL! Damn. But nah tho. Cotto got this.

Time for Serg to retire. His knees are beyond shot.

Either way, Sergio showed hella heart.

Damn. Feel so bummed for Sergio right now. This is most def not the way to go out.

Yeah Sergio did not want to stop due to his heart, but he couldn’t throw combos and was reaching mass. Either way Sergio is still legit.

Fuck Roach for saying he doesn’t want to hear any excuses, he knew Serg was past his prime and his knees were shot.

CONGRATS TO COTTO BEING THE FIRST PUERTO RICAN TO WIN BELTS IN 4 WEIGHT CLASSES AND THE 9TH WELTER TO WIN A MW BELT

martinez wouldn’t have taken the fight if he didn’t feel his knees were 100% and they were until he got dropped. either way, he’s still a great champ, but his time is up.

Cotto’s victory makes Floyd and Manny’s respective wins over him look REALLY good.

Would you say Cotto won because Roach is a really good trainer, or because Martinez’s knees were shot?

I don’t think Floyd will ever be the GOAT. Even if he does win the MW title, he’ll still be behind Robinson, Armstrong, Greb, etc. in the ATG list.

Floyd Jr. still scared of Manny

Yuriorkis Gamboa just suffered his first loss. I haven’t seen the fight yet. I remember a few years back that there was some hype that he could be one of the new big stars of boxing. His defence was lacking, but he could hit and was really fast. I haven’t heard or seen much of him since Arum decided to hold off a possible fight with Juan Manuel Lopez and that blew up in Arum’s face. Anybody else follow what’s going on with his career cause he’s 32 now and who knows how much longer he has with this sport.
