It’s honestly really sad that anyone would even have to clarify that. In a world and a sport where someone like Sugar Ray Robinson existed, the fact that anyone would try to argue for Floyd as GOAT is just pure ignorance. Sad, really. You could easily argue him out of the top 10 GOAT in a sport with such long running history as boxing.
I watched it, big fan of Gamboa. It was sad to see. Problem now is he’s getting on a bit but he’s still quite a dangerous fighter, so who knows. I’m curious how much ring rust contributed to his performance tbh and I think he should probably go back down in weight personally, he didnt seem to hold onto the same power at lightweight and his reckless aggression got him popped against crawford, whos quite a big lightweight tbh.
He’s with an inexperienced promoter in 50 Cent. It was a good scrap, but the size difference was apparent; his promoter, also, shouldn’t have put him in the ring with such an opponent after such a long lay off.
That being said, he was a knockout waiting to happen. I don’t know if he’s been told, ''Look you better go out there and fight", but he fought with very little sense. Left himself wide opened to get hurt initially, and continued doing the same thing until he got stopped. I don’t think he would have won if he boxed sensibly, because Crawfrod began to make the fight his as he figured out Gamboa’s range and timing, but he could have avoided getting dominated in the fight’s final rounds.
I had it 6-6, at a draw. Leading into the 6th round I had it 4-1 Lara, but then from the sixth all the way up until the 11th, it was all Canelo. I thought Lara won rounds 11 and 12. But seriously, 117-111? Come on son…
I mean I find GSP fights “exciting” so I might be the wrong person to answer this, but I thought the fight was interesting. Wasn’t a slugfest, was more of a slow calculated risk fight, if anything was to be considered fun about this fight was that it was close. Lara was on his bicycle for much of the fight and Canelo was missing a lot but started to catch the body and slow Lara down.
So not exciting, but interesting and tactical. I think a fight can still be like that but have some higher offensive output, without being a casual slugfest. I might check it out tomorrow if I can find a replay posted somewhere.
