So today in boxing the coach decided that it was time for me to spar… I had no warning and all I can say is that I have never in my life got my ass kicked so bad. I almost got knocked out several times. Basically imagine when Ippo first sparred Miyata… Yeah it was like that only I barely landed any punches. But this was just to see where I was at and now it seems like coach is ready to start giving me some more stuff. Anyway, my head is killing me but I feel good, now I just have to start breaking so many bad habits, lol.
Yeah it was to be expected because he was having me practice the 1,2,3,4. Now since he knows where I am at he is going to start implementing footwork, proper defense, etc. At first I was like, I’m cool on sparring, I will just train, but as I thought about it though it hurt like hell it was fun.
First thing i noticed was how much bigger and squishier sparring gloves are. Put the headgear on and we did jab-only sparring, 2 rounds with each opponent (there were 3 of us in the class).
First guy i bodied, second guy i was bodying til about a minute left in round 2 when he hit me with a good gut shot and got me winded a bit and landed some good shots on me but i hit him with a good jab and bloodied his nose
Totally in love with this sport. Coach said i have great movement but need work on a few key mechanics and defense that i dont know simply from never boxing before
Good stuff man. I wish I could say the same, but the guy I was sparring has been boxing for about 4 years and goes by the nickname “Tank” lol. Anyway I would love to spar with someone around my skill level so I don’t get my ass kicked the whole match, lol. Keep it up my dude. I know coach is starting to plan out my diet plan and training menu. Shit is about to get real intense.
I don’t know of any “levels” when it comes to boxing. You punch with everything unless you’re setting up with flicker jabs or something similar… I might find a new gym lmao.
There should be multiple guys for you to spar, and your coaches shouldn’t be drowning you. When I got into boxing I started sparring with a guy in his mid 30’s who retired from boxing. He was a former champ, but he was more than willing to show me some things, as well as punish me for my bad habits. He didn’t beat me down, but he made me frustrated beyond belief.
Lvl1: strength and conditioning, basic jab and straight combos on the heavy bag
Lvl2: learning hooks and uppercuts, basic defense and counters
Lvl3: advanced defense and counter punches
Lvl4-5: inside fighting and nutrition/dieting preparing for a fight.
Its been 4 weeks today. No exhaustion from yesterday at all. I feel great
Its a boxing gym that offers classes. I take the classes as well as go in on my own time and work out and talk to the coaches. Its pretty hands on. Classes are small cause people quit all the time. Theres like 12 amateurs that train tere and 2 local pros
Cool. Yeah there are a lot of guys who joined after Me but dropped out. I am technically the newest guy there. The gym is tough but I keep going back. I think coach likes that I am so eager to learn.
Did some roadwork this morning. Ran what I’m guessing to be a half marathon or just a lil short because fuck it. Y’all have convinced me to go to the gym even though today was supposed to be a chill day.
So today at boxing was intense. Basically I was the only one to show up, so I was at the mercy of coach the entire day, lol. Well today basically kicked off official training for this tournament in Feb. The heavy bag drill was rough, I had to go seven rounds with no breaks. I thought my arms were about to fall off. I guess that is what I get for being eager to learn, lol. On top of that, he wants me to get out of the super heavyweight class, so I am on a strict eating regiment and I have to take in two gallons of water a day. Needless to say, I am gonna be super tired. I find it funny how I joined to get in shape and now I am actually training for a fight. Anyway keep up the good work bruvs.
2nd time sparring def didnt go as well as the first time. Got hit with some pretty good right hooks when i got tired. Def gonna need to work on my footwork and balance. Otherwise coach says i have a great jab and cery good movement just gotta work on the basics and put it all together
ASIDE FROM ME where is the boxing talk? Broner Maidana soon, no longer PPV, on shotine. Victor the quitter Ortiz on the undercard. Called canelo boring LOL
You guys see that golovkin fight? Damn dude is a beast. Gonna go shadowbox now
I’ve been missing the fights for real. I usually am sleep by time they come on, lol.
As far as boxing today, we basically worked on defense training. So I had to spend the time in the ring moving my head and dodging all the jabs. I was doing alright, but when I started getting winded I had to rely on taking bigger side steps. Either way when I was throwing jabs I actually was doing really good to the point where I caught dude a couple of times, lol.
