A lot of the dudes from back in the day never fought amateurs. You gotta figure that accounts for some of the difference in the number of fights. Most dudes with pedigree (eg Floyd, Roy Jones, etc…) have 100-200 fights before they go pro.
Did federer ever make his opponents so fearful they wouldnt even hit the ball in his direction?
Did mayweather ever make his opponents so scared THEY ran from HIM?
Cause thats basically what barry did. Intentionally walked over a hundred times, avoided like the plague…and when he did get one good pitch a night he reminded everyone why they were avoiding him with a mammoth home run blast. It was unbelievable literally video game shit.
Not even a drop on what Donald Bradman did. Between 1931 and 1932 he set the highest series average by an absolute ridiculous amount. Between 1947 - 1948 he set the second highest series average and no one has ever come close to either record.
Over his 20 year period, he was worth literally three players in the amount of runs he made. A superstar, legendary, international hall of fame batsman has an average of half his.
I honestly don’t think an athlete has EVER dominated a sport like Bradman did. His dominance was so complete that his records have stood for 70+ years and no one has even looked close to breaking them, not even the other greats from his period.
"Bradman’s Test batting average of 99.94 has become one of cricket’s most famous, iconic statistics. No other player who has played more than 20 Test match innings has finished with a Test average of more than 61. Bradman scored centuries at a rate better than one every three innings—in 80 Test innings, Bradman scored 29 centuries. Only 11 players have since surpassed his total, all at a much slower rate: the next fastest player to reach 29 centuries, Sachin Tendulkar, required nearly twice as long (148 innings) to do so.
In addition, Bradman converted 41% of his centuries into double centuries: his total of 12 Test double hundreds—comprising 15% of his innings—remains the most achieved by any Test batsman and was accumulated faster than any other total. For comparison, the next highest totals of Test double hundreds are Kumar Sangakkara’s 11 in 223 innings (4.9%), Brian Lara’s 9 in 232 innings (3.9%), and Wally Hammond’s 7 in 140 innings (5%); the next highest rate of scoring Test double centuries was achieved by Vinod Kambli, whose 21 innings included 2 double centuries (9.5%)."
The sport has been played since the 18th century and is the second most played sport in the world after soccer. For all that time, all those players, there is no-one within the realms of what Bradman did. Avoiding him? England developed an entirely new (entirely now illegal) strategy called the bodyline as they new they would never win a single game while Bradman played. Even against the now illegal strategy Bradman scored better than most modern players ever have in their whole careers.
Aggressive means more, you guys exaggerate on the wiffs because the majority of the body shots Berto threw did land… there is no logical way that any fighter can just win a fight by not committing at all. You guys make it sound like Berto missed every strike which he did not. If you want examples of that in boxing just watch the DLH/Trinidad fight or any boxing match outside of Mayweathers and you won’t see any fighter winning regardless of “evasiveness”. It funny as hell how you fanboys think that running away the entire fight is something so special. Any body can just do that. The boxers are “losing” to this fraud is because boxers do not train for fighters like that, there sparring partners do not play the running game and just land a few blows because that isn’t allowed. Being the pure aggressor, and being able to apply pressure even through body shots is already a win. Ali would have lost to Foreman if he did not KO him…Sorry you 21st century fans, but that shit was never allowed in boxing.
The sport was rougher back then because back then no boxer was allowed to run through out the mother fucking fight and much more no boxer who forced complete control over everything in the match. Every boxer required to show engaging… it’s only in Mayweather fights were we can actually see running around and throwing a few hits and just letting the opponent engage for the 12 rounds as a winning strat. Mayweather was never 49-0, that nigga lost to Castillo, Maidana and arguably to DLH, Pac. These idiot mayweather fans are fucking kid fans of this decade who think that siding with an “undefeated fighter” who labels his fighting style as smart makes them smart boxing fans.
I’m not saying Berto won the fight but the score he got was complete bullshit, he engaged more effectively than Pacquiao did.
There is an idiot on Mayweather’s dick in this thread. They’re everywhere. Most of them think boxing started yesterday though.
I’ve said before that Nicolino Locche went 117 - 4 and he was even LESS aggressive than Mayweather. Locche literally just dodged people and poked them just above the belt or bolo punched them. The amount of minutes Locche spent in the ring was utterly mind-boggling made even more ridiculous by the fact he smoked cigarettes between rounds. Locche was the slipperiest boxer that ever lived, he made evasion seem effortless.
Locche actually engaged in his matches and his defensive tactics did not involve running away the entire fight or over use of clinching as a defensive strat. You see, what these idiot mayweather fans don’t understand about aggression is that effective aggression does not just mean being able to land a clean hit to the face, it is also forcing your opponent towards the ropes or corner and making him shell up and defend himself while being punched/attacked repeatedly. This is what Berto did, he foced mayweather on the ropes and made him shell up more than counter punching and just ran away. He would insert clean hits occassionally but his running and time on the ropes consumed more time than any arm extension he made. There is a difference between being evasive and running around and Mayweather’s arms barely stretched out in his rounds.
The reason why people do not like Mayweather is not because of his attitude, it’s really because of how he fights. He does not engage or commit himself at all and the majority of his actions are more of dodging, shelling, and running than counter punching… on top of that, he controls the entire politics with in his fights.
Nigga what? Have you ever bothered to watch an old Muhammad Ali fight like ever? I swear, I don’t like the way Mayweather fights, but I’m not going to rewrite history just to fit a terrible argument. Saying that professional boxing was a good ol slugfest in the past is WILDLY inaccurate.
*I got Canelo handling Cotto from round 5 on. Canelo has matured alot as a fighter in his last 3 fights, for that reason I think he’ll eventually be able to get in on Cotto during the 2nd half of the fight.
With that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cotto is able to pull out a split decision victory.
Muhammad Ali actually managed to KO his opponents. He would of lost to Foreman if he didn’t catch him.
The typical stupid logic from a mayweather fan: “being against running the entire fight means the person thinks boxing is supposed to be a slug fest.” You mayweather fans get dumber by the moment. You guys honestly believe our dislike for Mayweather is due to our view of boxing being pure slugging, what a bunch of idiots you all are. No one has a problem with counter punchers and defensive fighters, did you see us complain about SRL, Marquez, Ali? What we have a problem with is fighters winning when the majority of their moves consisted of shelling up and running away the entire fight.
