The Boxing Thread

So after evaluating my first week of boxing training along with Karate, I see a lot of what I need to work on. In boxing I do not possess the necessary “snap” of a punch, thus leaving me open to counters. Also I drop my left way too much, so I will need to work on my defense over the weekend. As far as Karate goes, I really just need to work on my stamina and not lead with my head. I don’t know if it is good or bad that the students didn’t want to spar against me in Karate, because they thought I would hit too hard or something, lol. Either way, they left me to the instructor and he handled me. Now for week two, so I can start fine tuning my jab/straight. I will be working out over the weekend.

I can have fun doing a lot of things without beer and yelling. Try having an actual conversation about what’s happening, maybe?

Well I feel that Floyd is boxing at its purest form. I feel that I learn more and more with each fight of his I watch. The thing is that it may seem boring. Floyd uses each round to lick apart hpis opponent. Unfortunately there aren’t too many that cat match that skill.

i love floyd, he’s like the martial artist of boxing. tries the most effective way to destroy an opponent without taking any damage. Sure it can end up boring to most people who are so used to generations before him boxing themselves retarded. He’s broken it to a science to fuck you up. I sometimes do wish he could knock people out…but if he relied on that kinda stuff i dont think he’d have as long a legacy. imo

thats actually a very boring thing to do when watching sports

Dj Hyper Kid has inspired me. I too am going to look into a boxing gym here in town

http://www.rocboxing.com/ is the site gonna check them out my next day off (tuesday)

Did anyone catch the Chavez Jr/Vera fight. Reading that Vera should have won but Chavez Jr got the unanimous decision. Really hate seeing this clown get breaks like this. Does half ass training(disrespecting Roach in the process) for the Martinez fight. Couldn’t make weight for the 2 limits set in this fight. What a joke.

Good stuff bruv! Yeah man, I love where I train. They are tough but you can tell they really want to teach. The coach is trying to have me break the habit of punching like a Karateka and more like a boxer. So a lot of shadow boxing and hitting the heavy bag is in order.

The best thing I noticed about my gym is that the coach seems to know a lot of people in the boxing world. He has a few pros getting ready for fights and a young prospect who wants to go to the Olympics. I see he knows Freddie Roach and their camp really well. The same with Mosley and his camp. So look at the credentials and go from there.

The first day I got the “welcome to boxing” introduction workout. I wanted to die, but somehow I pulled through and was able to finish out the three hour training session. .

Good luck with your training and keep us posted on your progress.

Hell yeah also talked to a buddy of mine who was a local boxer (he lives in germany now). Turns out his high school boxing coach owns that gym…and its right around the corner from my house!

Hella psyched

LOL. Top Rank. Whad joo expeck?

I read about it. Im going to try and catch it on youtube in a few weeks.

so i joined the gym for 3 months. first class tonight.

First class was awesome and hell at the same time.

So I show up and buy wraps and gloves from them for like 30 bucks (ill take pics later, theyre in my bookbag atm). Then they say jump rope as a warmup.

I havent jumped rope like…EVER in my life. maybe when i was 5?

I looked and felt like a clown doing it. but i got the hang for a bit. Then this short fit and kinda cute brunette leads us through stretches and says grab a kettlebell. I go for the 8lb one but they are all gone so i settle for 20. We go outside and she proceeds to lead us through walking lunges, and every ten seconds we have to stop and do burpies (that shit where you drop stand back up jump)

I do 4-5 of them cake and then on the 5th one when I jump my thighs nearly give. but thats just the first exercise. We do frog jumps and sideways squat walks and holding the kettlebell with our left hand then our right then behind our backs, the whole time stopping every ten seconds for the burpies. This goes on for 100 hours and Im considering quitting, Im never coming back, fuck this what was I thinking signing up for boxing Im a lazy gamer and I should be practicing my fly combos anyway…

we end the warm ups as the teacher calls them and go inside, where I attack the water fountain. I gave that shit the bj of a lifetime. Then we go up stairs (stairs! My thighs wept the whole way). we get upstairs and put our wraps and gloves on. Okay now i can get my Floyd on I think.

Double jabs. fun. for 30 seconds then we stop sit down and do ab exercises. then double jab right body. stop and do leg lifts. left right left right. stop and do pushups. etc etc. My hands were falling to my legs after jabs I felt like i had gone a thousand rounds when it had only been a half hour.

I love it! I will miss tomorrows class due to work but I’m gonna go after work and run on the treadmill then hit the heavy bag.

Good stuff bruv. I remember my first session. 90 minutes of hell and that was considered a warm-up. Basically we would circle the ring and bounce on the balls of our feet. Then coach would yell out an exercise (pushups, burpees, etc) and would do them. It’s an awesome experience but I feel dead almost always.

So yesterday I graduated from jabs/straights to hooks. Now when I throw jabs its almost instinctual. Coach also commented on how I will notice in mma a proper jab vs an improper jab (which I do). Anyway at the rate I am going I will do well at this karate tournament.

30 bucks is a lot fir wraps. My Everlast 3 pack was 20 @ Dicks

30 bucks was gloves and wraps. The wraps were 5 the gloves 25

day 2 was alot easier but i didnt do as much tbh. walked on the treadmill for a half hour then a half hour of heavy bag. class is again tomorrow thankfully I have off.

been watching full workouts on youtube as motivation

this training has def made me appreciate pro boxers more. floyd looks like hes barely punching but now I know how tiring that shit is

Yeah man. I’m in my second week and I’m still sticking with my weight lifting in the morning. After learning the proper way to throw a jab I feel the other punches aren’t as hard. Honestly the conditioning we do in boxing makes me karate training look easy. I think because I’m hungry to get better I can really appreciate my training. The coach throws me in their right with the pros. Also I noticed that our intervals are only 30 seconds instead of a minute. Yeah Monday is usually super hard because of the session being three hours with 90 minutes dedicated to pure cardio hell. I love it though.

I just wanna get in shape mostly, but after that I want to be able to spar against other people. In my current shape that’s a ways off though

Same here, but more so because I am entering a Karate tournament, and currently the Karate training is good, but nowhere near as intense as the boxing training.

But a typical day for training is:
Six rounds of Jumping Rope
Eight rounds of shadow boxing
10 rounds of heavy bag (combinations, etc).

This is just week two but I have already lost a good six pounds. Plus they have me on a training menu. I admit it is rough because I am still doing my weight training in the mornings. I wouldn’t mind sparring with others, but I can tell I will have to work up to that. Because the champ of our gym is basically Takamura tier, lol.
