Picked up Volume 2 and 3 of the big black and white Batman: Brave and the Bold. Despite the more…innocent stories, I suppose is the word, I enjoy the action and taking Batman out of his norm. Plus I am a sucker for Neal Adams artwork, and it’s predominantly him later on.
Probably pick up Blackest Night Batman next week sometime, and get caught up with DG in Batman.
I just re-read Batman and Son, The Black Glove, and RIP and it all really came together when read one after the other. What a great tapestry Morrison wove. I love this run now. I think RIP got some hate because it doesnt work by itself because it is really Act 3 to Morrison opening Batman saga.
I think Morrison takes a lot of flack for big stories woven over the course of his runs, at least he did for both R.I.P and Final Crisis.
You’ve just got to read his stuff all at once and then try to find whatever drugs he’s on. The man is a mad genius.
Is anyone reading Gotham City Sirens enough to formulate an opinion? I got the first 2 and neither really pulled me in, but I was told no.3 had some good Riddler moments. I’m tempted to pick the book back up as a fan of the non-villain Riddler.
Morrison is not on drugs; this idea spurs from us lowly humans being awed and unable to believe that a normal (or in this case enlightened) human being could write such wonders.
So what’s new in the world of Batman? Got out of my slump and I am (Yet again) trying to buy comics, started with Brightest Day Flash since I always wanted to read his comic but didn’t know where to start.
Have they come out and stated that when Bruce returns he’ll immediately take over as Batman? I know it will happen, sadly, but I would like it to be a slow transition since I love Dick in the role and think he’s doing an admirable job.
Nothing’s been stated about Bruce Wayne being Batman again. There’s still 4 more issues of The Return of Bruce Wayne to go and I guess we’ll find out after that.
The last RUMOR I heard is when he comes back they might have 3 Batmen for a while with Tim Drake being the third. Each would patrol a different section of Gotham City. Of course you should take this RUMOR with 10 dumptrucks of salt because I heard this quite a few months ago and even if that plan was / is on the cards anything can change in a few months time.
The local shop has back issues 50% off, going to get all the current Batman & Robin and Batman run to catch up.
I liked the #698-699 story arc that happened, it was very odd and rather gothic, introducing a cool new villain (As far as I know). I couldn’t tell if it ended in those two issues or if #702 will pick back up off of that, seems to be done though.
Also Firefly being in was win, I am a big fan of his character.
So when is the next issue of Batman & Robin coming out? As we all Oberon Sexton turned out to be HAHAHAHAHA!!!,so it’s obvious he’s going to get his revenge on the Black Glove for using him
Not this week. The Batman Beyond comic book that’s part of DC proper on one of their multiple Earths and not part of the DC Animated Universe starts up this week for those interested.
Nice, I need to catch up, only read the first four issues. Especially since this is where I can find out what Joker has been up to since R.I.P.
Got all of the Batman run with Dick minus two issues, and I really enjoyed it, might do the same with Streets of Gotham but I am unsure. I’ve been trying to get into JLA just to see how Dick is interacting with the rest of DC, but the current story arc is pretty bleh to me.
Is Return of Bruce Wayne all that good? It just looks like hot garbage to me, Pirate and caveman Batman really doesn’t appeal to me. Also I am assuming based on the Batman run, that Riddler is going back to his villanious routes? His actions in #698 and #699 are questionable as to what he really did behind the scenes, but after reading the earlier issues and the explosion it seems things are starting to come back to him.
It would be refreshing, as his stint as a P.I. for Gotham is a bit stagnant at the moment.
While I love Neal Adams, that teaser they showed in various comics on Odyssey left me all confused. Why did Batman use a gun? Why were Mexican banditos robbing a train maybe? Just was odd looking. Still I will probably whore out and buy it because Neal Adams is my artist, he can do absolutely no wrong to me.
Morisson and straight forward hardly go hand in hand, hmm…I might get it if I can find a number one in a back bin somewhere, thank you.
Morrison’s inscrutability is overrated, in my opinion. His stories aren’t actually THAT confusing. I prefer to think that the vast majority of superhero writers today are so mediocre that Morrison’s actual talent makes his work appear perplexing by comparison.
